    As a german I have to say, that Faber Castell might not be the best brand but they're pretty good and I love most of the stuff I've tried...about them being overpriced: they might be in the US idk but since they're made in germany they're actually pretty cheap, one colored pencil is less than 2€ and it's generally very affordable

    The funniest and most ironic (most tragic?) part of the Bob Ross thing is that he wasn't even the one who invented that painting technique! In the very first ever episode of The Joy of Painting, he tells you who taught him. It was Bill Alexander! How can Kowalski sue someone for using Bill Alexander's technique?

    sort of interesting to see copic have a sort of "fall from grace" over the years. where in pretty recent memory they had basically a monopoly on alcohol markers since their only competition were store brands that never had a brush nib and were very limited in colors, and office supplies like sharpies that mostly come in very satuated colors.
    now we have all these less expensive brands and all these new marker artists who are starting out on these brands over copic. and from what i've seen, while artists who have used copics first still have a strong preference for copics because of their blendability, brush nibs, and just the fact that they come in the most colors, people who "upgrade" to copic from a a cheaper brand HATES them. I feel like this is because the high price of copics have been highlighted and the things that copic has over other brands still don't make it worth the $7 ish they cost, and these artists will rather deal with the shortcomings of cheaper brands by using color pencils to help with not having an inbetween shade or buying individual markers replacements cause the whole marker is cheaper than a whole copic refill.

      @ReptarsaurusRex Před 2 lety +3

      Interesting comment. I like your perspective. I'm one of those artists who started with Copics so I love them because they are refillable and you can even replace the nibs. I've also had Ohuhus but I didn't like them as much only because I couldn't buy a refill when I used up my favorite colors or frayed the nib. The quality of Ohuhu is great and I loved it for how easy it was to get a lot of colors, it's just you can't refill them or replace the nib.
      I would recommend Ohuhu and other cheap brands to beginner marker artists and then once you know you enjoy them and its worth it, upgrade to Copic. If you bought Ohuhu and didn't enjoy using markers, then it's not a big loss if you're never gonna use them again. I would not recommend Copic to beginners because it's too expensive! And that's coming from someone who began with Copics!

    You should really check out Faber Castell's 'Goldfaber' line of coloured pencils.
    Smooth, blendable, 45 colours, and they play well with the Prismacolor Premiers since a lot of the Goldfaber colours are near to but just different enough than the Prismacolor Premier pallet.
    May Green, just might be my new favourite colour.

    I highly recommend Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pens. India ink, waterproof, just great. Though a pit pricey, I'd recommend getting a bigger package or on sale. (also love their pencils, colored pencils, highlighters, erasers - nothing I from them disappointed) I also bought a few Caran d'Ache fibralo brush markers and they're great too and cheaper than Pitt. I think I'd choose them over Tombow (mine's tips got frayed easily...)

      I guess its all a preference, cause I'm the exact opposite :P tombow all the way for me, its nice that they are waterproof, but I found them much less pleasant to work with. they literally changed how I feel about drawing with markers. and black faber castel calligraphy pens/fineliners..., I tried them because multiple artists I admired said that they prefer them over micron by a mile... and yet... I'm going back to micron personaly.

I definitely prefer microns there, personaly. @SilentProti Před 2 lety +1

      @@Forgefaerie well in my country set of 12 zig is cheaper than 12 tombows. I get you, I think I prefer water based markers too, they're just so much more versatile right? You're basically wasting alcohol ink if you're not using marker paper and they don't blend nicely then, I'm definitely all for mix media. Oh and BTW - white Pitt pen is so so much better for highlights than any gel pen! And actually cheaper than a good white gel pen.

    • @Forgefaerie
      @Forgefaerie Před 2 lety +1

      and thank you for the tip on white pit pen! I have been searching for a good white highlight I can use lazily/quickly and so far I hated everything. people swear by uniball pens, but I didn't like mine at all. I really dislike Canson paper for some reason. Not a fan of Strathmore either. Then again, when I was young and had a real job and no children, I could afford really good paper like Fabriano and Arches, so I’m kind of spoiled.
