Oh! I’m so excited for this! I spent ‘23 learning about and acquiring makeup. This year, I’m paring waaaay down to just my favorites. Now, I want to learn about brushes - but the prices (esp for a relative beginner like me) are daunting! Still, I suspect that they would make a difference in application. At some point, I would love to see a video on application differences between synthetic/natural brushes, different textures and sizes, etc. For example, what is the difference between using a synthetic or natural foundation brush? Thank you for all that you do!
Sure! I went over a few details in my fude foundation brush video, but to quickly go over a few points: Synthetic fibers are more resilient with liquids and creams because the filaments don’t absorb product like natural hairs do. That also means you can use less product, and wash them more often Natural bristles absorb product, leaving behind a more skin like finish. But the more frequent washing can affect the longevity of the brush.
I built my brush collection slowly over 5 years or so. Sephora was phasing out their pro collection and I would buy them one by one as they went on clearance. The rest of my brushes were Valentines gifts from my husband or I used my Allure subscription to get great prices, too.
I think having a stiffer cheek brush is essential especially when my cheeks tend to grab powder. The stiffer brushes do a much better job blending than a super soft one even though we all love the feeling of a soft brush.
Another great video Alicia. For ezcema sensitive skin, i dare not get animal hair and i use synthetic hair brushes for precision but majority of the time i use my fingers to put eye shadow on. Elf eye shadow stick for one and done shade. I like the R-S2&3, mizuho brushes. They look fun.
I love, love, love your brush videos!! (My wallet cries when you do one, but I get so excited!😂) You are so good at educating about brushes and describing what they do. I’ve learned so much from you…and added so many awesome brushes to my collection. I got some of the Tauhaus brushes you did a video on last year. There was one that was meant for highlighter but I use it for eyeshadow and I liked it so much I bought a second one. Very inexpensive, too!!

For sure! Was it the first or last one? I think the first I used Viseart’s Petit Pro in Solstice, and the 2nd was Pat McGrath’s Holiday 2023 quint in Bronze Ecstasy. I think for lip I had on the Saie Glossybounce in “Dip”!

I think you've sold me on that Tanseido highlighter brush and maybe also the candle shaped one just before it as well :)

I'd like to buy the J-G1 powder brush (hoping to use it to apply blush for a more natural and diffused look). Do you think the J-G1 brush will be too big to pick up the Hourglass Jellyfish product? Which brush do you think is good to pick up and apply those finishing powder (e.g. Diffused Light)? I'm really debating between J-G1, J-G2 and J-G3. Need some help. Thank you!

They say that it’s a collab between them and skilled brush makers in Japan, so I’m thinking it would be Fude. What do you think? Is it worth it or should I stick with the other Fude brands instead? Price is $125.

Hi! It can, but Fude Beauty recommends that you wipe after use. I usually wipe the excess off with a microfiber towel.
