Oh poor little Louis Joseph. I think it's a relief he passed away to heavenly realms and was pain free once again. I shudder at metal corsets to straighten his poor spine after being wrongly diagnosed by palace physicians. Thank you for a tragic but excellent video. Xxx

Thank you Laura... A friend of mine wore a modern day version of such a corset, and it was pretty horrible and painful at times... So one can only imagine what the 18th century version of that thing would've been like to wear...

Sadly Louis Joseph would have been doomed whatever the state of his health as he would have suffered a similar fate to that of his younger brother, i.e. dying as a result of the mental and emotional abuse by his revolutionary captors. The treatment of the Dauphin and the vile, false charges about his sexual abuse at the hands of his mother that were brought against Marie Antoinette are one of the most shameful episodes of the Revolution.

Yeah, it's awful, & it just seems like sooo many people died of it- loads of my ancestors have "consumption" on their death certificates. And it's awful that people were so often made sicker by medical treatment, or even killed- & when you're the monarch or heir, doctors will be so desperate to save you that they'll try literally anything. Charles II of England's doctors definitely hastened his death, & made it a worse death too.

Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette deeply loved their children. Despite what Louis-Joseph went through even though he was intelligent, well-educated until his death-the Court gives him a burial then all of a sudden forget about him. With debate going around, they won’t give time for the royal king and queen to mourn for their son and second child they lost. A year after Louis-Charles birth, there was Princess Sophie Héléne-her death was mostly mourned by the Royal parents.

Weird or what but I've always prayed for Louie the 16th I know a lot of the history and how sad for such a role to be thrust upon a young man that was timid and shy and suffered greatly from the medical condition which prevented his manhood coming about sooner how alone he must have felt and then the suffering of his children dying then to be executed along with his wife what a tragedy history buffs Marie Antoinette never said let them eat cake

So sad! :'( But I do like that you make vids on some children who didn't live to adulthood, &/or heirs who didn't become king. We only remember the one who _did_ become king, but that's hindsight- for 7 years, Louis Joseph was heir, & Louis XVII was just the heir's younger brother... It's horrible that people were so often made sicker by medical treatment, or even killed- & when you're the monarch or heir, doctors will be so desperate to save you that they'll try literally anything. Charles II of England's doctors definitely hastened his death.
