As a black man who grew up in the south, I've never had a problem with the gasden flag. I know the true meaning behind it so I never saw it as a racist symbol. In fact, every person I knew/know that has one are some of the nicest people I've ever met. Just because some hateful people adopted something to fit their ideologies doesn't mean that's what it stands for. And I honestly wish people would stop speaking for groups of people they don't belong to and saying what is offensive to them. Let us speak for ourselves for Christ's sake

The flag is more associated with pro 2a groups though I would imagine since 2a people tend to be more conservative those on the extreme would hold similar positions on the 2a. But the flag has no racial context to it other than the fact right wing people that CAN be racist fly it because they are also pro 2a. That’s like saying flying the American flag is inherently racist because right wing people fly it too. The flag’s history has been historically used to express anti government sentiment and pro 2A positions. It’s ridiculous how everyone just labels stuff as racist because certain small groups hijack it for themselves.

It’s not racist at all. About 1 in every 5 houses in my area (Delco PA) have those flags. It’s a symbol of the 13 colonies unity. If people have a problem with that then why should people be allowed to have a pride flag on their bag. Doesn’t make sense. Sure some racists may use it but doesn’t mean it’s a racist flag.

Government is forcing folks to be queer, get gay married, to take our guns, rape pur kids, and sacrifice them to satan for the adrenachrome.

I don’t think this kid did anything wrong but I also understand why the message isn’t could disturb people, considering the recent context it’s been used in.

I remember reading an article once where a committee in some college was trying to call soap dispensers racist. Apparently, their argument was that it forced black students to show their palms or something.
Idk if the article was legitimate or not, but this feels similar in taking something that is mundane, maybe significant, and using it to symbolize what you want to show, people use symbols to connotate different things, similar to Swasticas you can't tell if the kid was trying to be racist or tell the government to screw off.

@AlphaSporeGaming the swastika was widely used as a symbol of many other names, and promoted (almost everywhere) peace. Racists took that symbol and used it for themselves, so much so that it's pretty much only seen as such. A symbol can be appropriated for anything, this flag was appropriated by white supremacists, so it's associated with white supremacy now. Just because backwards conservatives ALSO want less government (so they can do more shady things) doesn't give them plausible deniability that this flag is flown by racists for racist reasons.

Isn’t it an ANTI BULLYING statement from a kid’s perspective?
Maybe it’s just a cool snake on a sticker to quickly identify his backpack. Maybe yellow is his favorite color end of story.
Kids can’t even enjoy a sticker anymore without adult’s making it a huge identity issue/crisis. Branding the kid for life over a symbol that has MANY meanings isn’t fair or healthy.
A sticker is just a sticker to kids. Don’t we teach kids “Don’t judge a book (or people)by its cover“?
It’s also a marine military symbol of strength and courage. The Marine version of “Don’t mess with Texas“. It’s pro American.
But racists are going to see racism around every corner. If you try hard enough you can corrupt anything into evil.
Glad I’m not a kid growing up in the toxic climate that this country and world has become.
