I want to tell you how much you blessed me by posting this video!!!! I have the exact same water heater and it kept producing "muddy" water and then it just finally stopped heating. I did not have the funds to pay someone to install a new one, so when I found your video, you made it so easy for me to have the confidence to do it on my own. Took me 3 days and had to call a friend for "man strength" when I couldn't get the cold water connection loose, and while he was there he helped with the reinstall. (Yes America, MEN are a VALUABLE asset and women cannot do EVERYTHING) Mine was not under a cabinet but in the "basement" of the RV and not one you could sit up in, but rather had to crawl into and lay down to disconnect everything. It was an adventure but now I have hot water, no leaks and I am forever grateful that you took the time to post this.

Hello, it would have saved you time if you hadn't filmed it! Lol
But I am so glad you did! Awesome job! I'm replacing mine tomorrow, and this video takes some of the anxiety out of me. Thank you very much for this video! Great video!

Appreciate your video...very good instructions. My suburban gas w/h started leaking pretty bad so I watched your video and said 'I can do this!'. Ordered the tank from HD online. Before anything I did a unit comparison just as you did (wires) than the whole removal and install took apx 50min. Only issue after was the polybutylene pipe fittings for the water inlets were leaking and copper/brass was corroded so I had to cut them off and replace with swivel elbows found at camping world for $9/each (better than shark bite fittings bc they thread onto the pipe after insertion). The funniest thing was being told by a person in the store that I should have a professional do the work on the pipes but it took me less than 5mins.

With CZcams you can get instruction right from the professionals mouth if you find the right one. Save some money that way for damn sure. Just need the proper tools. Take pictures from all angles before you take it apart, put the new one together in the same way.

Just a comment that you don't put sealant on the threads of a flare fitting. The sealing part of that connection is not the threads. Other than that great video ! Thanks !

No you don't. Just remember to get the copper line lined up centered on the fitting before screwing the nut on. And the use a soap solution on the fitting after turning the propane back on to check for leaks!

Nice video. Mine doesn’t have the electric, but otherwise the same. Just an FYI that “drain plug” on the front is actually the anode rod, and depending on how often you are using your water heater, that should be checked yearly and replaced as needed. If you had never checked it, then that is probably why your it was rusted shut and why it might have started leaking.

Fyi, you can do all the wiring from outside, just pull 1/4 - 1/2 out and splice. No need to remove cabinet, sorry for your struggles, it is what it is, you got it done 👍

  • @californiahikingadventures2249

It looks like the genesis of your problem was not changing out the anode rod in regular maintenance . That rod sacrifices itself so the steel tank doesn’t disintegrate. The anode rod is located at that nut on the outside where it leaked and rusted the outside

  • @iair-conditiontheoutsideai3076

I wanted to mention if you do not replace your anode rod you will be here again in a few years that is the reason this water heater has all that rust your anode rod is completely rusted into place probably completely disintegrated within the tank and the tank has started to corrode on the inside
