Clarke's dour depressing demeanor matches his tactics. And that alone should have seen him sacked after the Germany game. Because he had no intention of playing any kind of attacking football. And with an attitude like that he got what he deserved. Fcuk all.
Totally agree, I always think the managers personality rubs of on the team. The guy would depress me before I left the dressing room.
I wouldn't judge his demeanor with his tactics although they were questionable. Alex Ferguson was quite a dour b*gger but didn't do too badly.
Thank god you are in charge of nothing important James. Put your hanky away.
@@thecraftyguy6358 Ferguson was like Mr Happy compared to Clarke!
The biggest problem was losing Dykes as he's integral to the counter attacking system Scotland tend to play against bigger teams. Witghout him we played second and third choice guys who were never going to be able to do it and as such we offered nothing going forward.
Archie Gemmil beat more players to score that goal in 78 than the entire scotland team did at the euros this year. We've forgotten how to play football. We have no players that can pick up the ball and make something happen.
James Forrest can do that.......
I almost crashed my van this morning listening to Steve Clarke responding to criticism by stating, âweâve never scored two goals before but we did this timeâ. Thats no answer. He needs to go.
Um.. I am Scottish so hate to be THAT guy.. but no. McTom scored against the Swiss, but the other was an OG scored by Rudiger if I remember correctly. So no, we didn't Steve ya dour faced prick.

Scottish Player of the Year. Leagueâs top goal scorer with 20 goals. Lawrence Shankland. Sat on the bench. Please explain?!
Really was bizarre. What is it with British nations and ultra conservative managers.
đźface it your a small fish in a small pond
The argument was Adams holds the ball up better lol it was a must win game it holding the ball up should be irrelevant.
I can explain it. Itâs because Steve Clarke is the same as all other Scottish managers in that he uses the same awful rule of thumb whereby a player who plays in England at any level is assumed to be a better option than a player who plays in Scotland (and particularly if they play for a team other than the Old Firm), regardless of their respective records, form or even nationality for that matter. Hence, a bona fide Scottish goal machine like Shanks will always play second fiddle to English and Australian strikers who score very few goals provided they play at some level in England.
It was the same with Griffiths being overlooked in favour of barren strikers like Steven Fletcher
Clarke used to manage Kilmarnock, Shankland used to play for Ayr. The hatred runs deep.
I blame climate change, the air wasnt right

The Scottish football system needs to self reflect in a big way now. Embarrassing tournament. And everyone is tired and bored of small population argument. Iâm Scottish and last night was the most embarrassing and painful experience as a Scotland fan ever last night. Clarke is getting blamed. No bite, no urgency to attack. Safe, safe, safe. Like a lot of people have said other countries have smaller populations and do far, far better than us. And theyâre right. No excuse. Look at Uruguay. 1.5 mill population and they tear it up in tournaments. Do we have world class players? No! But do we have good players that can take the game and go and win it. Yes. But not with Clarke. No chance. Heâs got us to 2 tournaments now and thatâs great. But tired of the sing song I want wins, points and progress. All the criticism we have gotten from this tournament we totally deserve!
As an Englishman, I certainly sympathise with the situation of having an ultra defensive 'safety first' manager, who wouldn't know how to attack teams if his life depended on it. I expected you guys to at least have a go at Hungary last night, but that was dogshit and your manager needs sacking.
He`s a 100% COWARD !
closer to 4m
The end of the game showed if he had some ambition the team would have created far more.
Forrest sat on the bench the whole tournament whilst absolute dumplings get a game suns him up.
Nobody in that squad has done more in big games than him.
There were excellent Scottish players during the Liverpool and Leeds golden era. In fact if it wasn't for them I doubt, Liverpool most of all, wouldn't have achieved so much in Europe.
Dalglish, Souness, Hansen, Bremner to name but a few. Ah well, once more we'll be "Going Home".
The Scots went into the tournament as if they were Gibraltar and went home as if they actually were Gibraltar - piss poor with next to zero expectations .
They should have gone for it they had nothing to lose against a weak Hungarian teamđź
These "weak Hungarians" beat England 4:0 on their home soil 2 years ago, mind you
A weak Hungarian team that put 4 by you's last season! ABE.
That was not a penalty, the Scottish player stumbled, jumped up,, then pulled the opponents shirt into him
exactly wokes in football call it a penalty boo hoo boys shameful
We were dire. Bottles crashed left, right, and centre. Our big players were either injured or didn't perform. Clarke set us up negatively and that was seen in a lack of bravery and risk-taking on the pitch.
We haven't played well in over a year. Confidence is low, players out of position, and Clarke has shown an inability or unwillingness to change from his favourites or the system he found to shoehorn Robertson and Tierney into the starting XI.
Clarke has also been prickly, defensive, needlessly combative with the media. He makes few friends because of this and it just adds to the lugubrious air that is currently hanging around the team.
Clarke needs to go as he's taken us as far as he can. We thank him for his service and the qualifications...but it's time to go.
was a real shame Ferguson got injured. Under Motta he shone in one of the most progressive tactical systems in modern football. I'd have liked to see him alongside another very well coached player in Christie. But Clarke would have probably just played them both out wide. He's such a brexit manager.
@WOOOPdoctorFROGhere Completely agree. It was also sod's law that we lost our top 2 right backs as well. Hickey would have made a difference in terms of the out ball on the right. Ralston was hopeless. I don't buy all this "showed character and dug in". If you're out of your depth at international level, you're out of your depth. No amount of application will mask it. And it didn't...
First off, Clarke has done brilliantly to get us to the last 2 Euros. Unfortunately that's where the praise for the Man ends, as his tactics in the tournaments has been nothing short of embarrassing.
He's shown he learned nothing from 2021. I honestly felt we could've got something from Germany. Historically, they start tournaments slowly(much like the Italians), they may not lose many group games, but they're there to be got at. We could've grabbed a point, had we actually had a go at them, and that would've been a great start. As it was, we roll over and get mauled.
Then he comes out saying '4 points was the target, and it still is'. That was when i started getting a few doubts. You've got a -4 goal difference, your mentality has to change. Had we only lost 2-1 to Germany, i might've been inclined to keep the 4 point strategy. As it was, he should've then flipped and decided to go for 6 points. The Swiss were there to be beaten, but once more, we were just that bit cagey. We come out with a point.
Now it's all or nothing in our final group game. Beat the Swiss, and we have the cushion of knowing a draw v Hungary, and we're through. Then we could've played the way we did, slow the game down, walking pace, no need to be gung ho, take it easy, control the game. I honestly couldn't believe how slow the pace of the Hungary game was. We HAD to win to be certain of qualifying, but we were playing as though we were 5-0 up in the Final and just playing the game out.
The argument about Shankland is moot. Shankland doesn't suit Clarkes style of play. He wouldn't have made any difference had he started any of these games. He'd have had the exact same instructions that Adams had. He was always being taken along in the squad to be an 'impact' sub. That if we were chasing a goal, on he'd come, and hopefully get on the end of something. That was his role in the squad.
For me, Clarke has to go. Yes, he gets us qualified, but once we're there it's embarrassing. We need a Manager who will take a wee risk now and again, play 2 up front and go at teams. Clarke isn't that Manager.
IÂŽve backed Clarke all the way but thatÂŽs all mate. Absolutely bottled it - tactically undone - terrible selections and poor excuses. Lick your wounds Clarke and move on. No more of this dross. One thing that really annoyed me was this "4 point target" - target 9 points and be happy if you get 4. He gave up the first game and was happy to settle for a draw against a Swiss side that only needed a point. THAT was the big chance to get back in the tournament. Again, bottled it. Why did he start Shankland in four successive friendlies to drop him for the finals? why did he pick Hanley in both pre-tournament friendlies to drop him for Porteous against Germany? Why did he ignore Forrest? Why did he perists with 5 at the back in a game we had to win, when that system was DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR KT AND ROBBO - We had to switch it up - MAYBE TRY A TACTICAL SURPRISE? Great managers, like Walter Smith, always had a trick up their sleeve - not just the same formation, same players, same system every game - really out of his depth.
đđđđ he hasnât a fuckun clue about tactics
Che Adams as a left winger is quite possibly the worst selection of the entire tournament out of every nation competing. He's bad enough in his proper position as a striker, so I'm baffled he was played out wide in every game. Absolutely atrocious footballer, seemingly only on the pitch because he can "get amongst it" and smash into defenders, to absolutely no success
It is nice to have you in the group stage. Cute little countries are a good warm up. 1 point due to an OG and playing Che Adams up front. Watching you get smashed 5-1, and then concede in the 100th minute of a must win game was hilarious. Thanks for coming. See you again maybe 2030.

No shots on target in a game you had to win. As Matt Busby used to say "you can't win the raffle if you don't buy a ticket". Clarke got them to the finals, but he couldn't get them to turn up for two of the games. His team was frightened to take a chance. So it's on him.

Scotland are missing genuine strikers in the ilk of Dalglish, Robertson, Wark, and Gemmell, Simon was right that Scotland and northern England dont get any players, the shipyards and coal mines were the breading ground for talents.
Stuart Pearce is ALWAYS worth listening to, and he has summed it up very well. I don't want to see any team as negative as Scotland progress TBH - it's non football, and I say that as a Scot.

On that statement, England deserve to go out too

Who are "the Jocks"? and the "they" you speak of. I'm Scottish and dont walk about talking & portraying the Scottish team as Andorra. We should have performed much better, and we didn't. However, we put in some good performances during qualifying that got us out of the group with 16 points and a win against Spain. Uruguay, Croatia, Denmark, Hungary, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands. All small nations or relatively small (Netherlands 17 million). All have had success at World or European level. Some have repeated success, semis, finals for example. So Scotlandâs bleating about being disadvantaged by being small doesnât stack up. They canât even get out of the group. Itâs obviously about a lot of other things which Scotland lacks that these nations have in terms of football success
Belgium and Portugal have more than DOUBLE the population of Scotland.
Hungary likewise and they have done nothing for decades.
Croatia, Denmark and Uruguay are the only countries worth comparing to.
Croatia have won nothing and would not have got to a final without Modric.
I admire their team spirit but their golden era was on the back of a wave of enthusiasm after gaining independence and more recently, Modric has raised the standard and we'll see what transpires once he's gone.
Denmark have won nothing except the Euros when the momentum of unexpected excitement (and a real "nothing to lose" feel that's worth its weight in gold) took them to the final of a championship THEY FAILED TO QUALIFY FOR.
Kudos for winning but come on, they weren't even there on merit.
As for Uruguay, do two World Cups in 1930 and 1950 count considering one was at home and the other in Brazil (considering what it took for European teams to even get there back then, never mind acclimatize)?
The Copa America: well, ok, but it's hardly the Euros in terms of top teams and competition, is it?
Also, Scotland has regular success in the Olympics in several sports including athletics, cycling, sailing and swimming.
We've managed golds in the Winter Olympics too.
We have a tennis multi Grand Slam and Olympic champion.

Bottom line: it's not a coincidence that the countries who usually win the WC and Euros (i.e Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Spain, Italy, France) have HUGE populations and some even have at least one CITY (Brazil has two) with a bigger population than Scotland...

bad team selection , bad tactics and a poor manager that still thinks he's managing Kilmarnock. Time to go Steve .
Look at the replay from the start for the penalty. He was offside maybe thatâs why VAR didnât ask the referee to review his decision
For me, Steve Clarke has done well getting qualifications. The issue is he seems to have no tactical plan for when Scotland get there and we leave a prolific goal scorer on the bench while struggling for goals. Shankland has also played in Belgium and scored against Brugge and other top clubs there. That is whats criminal. So should he go depends on whether you think the ambition is get there or try to make an impact. They should've had a penalty (although it's possible that the guy that was fouled was offside if you watch the footage back, it was very close) but they didn't deserve to go through. A game they had to win, and their first shot at goal was after 53 minutes. They didn't really have a go until the last 15 minutes, by which time, Hungary were beginning to take control. I saw it said after they drew the second game that they'd 'done half the job' because they probably only needed 4 points to get through, which is a ludicrous fact that I think encourages this type of negative safety first approach.
They didnât have the quality to even get up the park & the goal against the Swiss was going softly into the keepers body until the defender made a mess of it
Shankland should have played in all three games !

It would surprise people (although it's true) to learn that a sizeable proportion of the Scottish population isn't interested in football and huge swathes of the middle classes (who send their kids to private schools where rugby, athletics and cricket are by far the main sports) don't encourage their kids to play it.
Bottom line: it's not a coincidence that the countries who usually win the WC and Euros (i.e Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Spain, Italy, France) have HUGE populations and some even have at least one CITY (Brazil has two) with a bigger population than Scotland...
Why hasnât Scotland even got out of the group at one of these. Croatia have got to a World Cup final and semi final
For Steve Clarke to base the elimination of their team on a penalty decision, Câmon. Classic deflection tactic from the real issue which is they were not brave enough in front of goal
You can lose 5-1 to the hosts but to not give it a go in that game, yes Switzerland was solid but then to not give everything to put Hungary under pressure was inexcusable
steve clarke empty your locker the dole is calling you đđđđđđđđđđ
He wont leave with honour cowards don`t have any
scotland dilidallied aw night from defence to midfield then back again it was like chase me chase me game đđđđđ
I feel steve Clarke should resign
Fire the coward
@@somerledislay9987 ĂŹ think he needs to feel the consequences
@@kylelacey8036 He`s simply a Coward who`s terrified of losing the biggest wages of his career
You have to be honest and say we just don't have the players. I don't particularly see another manager doing so much better, maybe different choices in starting line up....
All I can say is that we have a guy who took the coaching job,and has a limited talent in tactics, and was guilty of unnecessary favoritism. And May I just add he didnât have guile to put on Conway earlier
Clarke is the most negative manager in the Euros and Scotland were the worst team. Even the Georgia's & Albanias were more positive and had more belief in themselves. Clarke is such a low level manager and embarrassment
Uruguay is smaller in population than Scotland and they've won the world cup, twice!
Aye before the war....đđđ
â@@fabiotabaton314 - Wrong. Uruguay won their second World Cup in 1950. AFTER the war. đđđ
@@TrevorHolohan I meant the Corea war...( just kidding) ciao
England should take solace in the fact that they have the nation of Scotland fully behind them on their quest for their first Euro's. Although sad they are gone home, Scotland still have a solid interest in this competition in supporting England.
Ffs your having a laugh arnt you I hope they get spanked
The examples Jim White was looking for are Greece and, most recently, Iceland! Both nations didn't have the quality, but they had an incredible mentality.
We have to be realistic our achievement is getting there and donât expect any better in the near future
How many times has this happened over the decades, its the same old story lose a game win or draw the next and when a chance is presented to progress they have ALWAYS failed so I dont understand what the big deal is and as for the ref not giving a penalty he would do well in Scotland
Simon Jordan is 100% Correct here.
Me ; .... A better manager WOULD HAVE MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE with the players we have even.
Clarke is embarrassing himself especially his bigotry towards the Argentina referee .
Youâd think Jordan took Palace to a Champions League final the way he bangs on. So why didnât you Simon? đ Jog on pal.
A penalty in that period of time would of course change the game, providing we scored the penalty
Really poor investment in Scottish local sports have turned us into a nation of snob only participation 40s 50s 60s 70s best sporting eras no one had 2 bob now your local ned has no inclusion hence no bottle or back bone for all to see too many prima donnas and not enough rough well done SFA for turning your back on generations of housing scheme boys
Give Neil Lennon the job lol
Couldnât even get out of their groupâŠ
Look at what Croatia has achieved in recent years. Where's their league and finances etc. They've had Modric, and a couple of other good players, but not much more than the sum of the current Scottish squad.
Shots on goal would have been good
