This is the 3rd version of this song that I hear after Taylor’s version and her acoustic performance, all very different and all absolutely brilliant. Only TS can record several versions of the same song and it just doesn’t get boring. As far as I’m concerned she can record this however many times she wants.

This song and Taylor's heartfelt lyrics have transported me into a healing I have needed and this tour has helped me find joy in a very sad time in my life. I lost my mom last year. She was the only person that helped me in my darkest times. Taylor has brought me again to a happy place. Her words are healing and they just hit. The first time I heard this was when she sang it on SNL and it gutted me. Just gutted. Even though I've been happily married for over 20 years. But the emotion and description was so strong that I was suddenly standing in the kitchen again while my ex-fianceé called off our engagement. Now, I'm glad he did, but, then, it was devastating. The memory has never been stronger than hearing this for the first time.

This is the second time I've posted a similar comment about Taylor Swift: No one can ever deny this woman's talent. I've not listened to any of her songs for like 10 years but just listening to this took me back to those few moments in my life and made me remember how painful it was in a way that I could never express with the level of clarity she has in her song. Imagine someone who's never met you can tell you how you felt in your younger self. That is talent to use music to connect us through our common humanity, which is the talent of a musician and an incredible artist.

I've underrated Taylor for years.
This version feels like post crying after breakup stage. The part where you're done crying so bad for nights. The part where you still feel that searing pain but your eyes can't produce tears anymore. You're tired but your heart never stops from swearing your ex's name. And in this part you're asking why you're still into him when you've already realized all the pain he caused you.

Those first three notes on the piano swells the heart that instant. It lets you revisit those times when you were just going through what can be, but you end up today with what has been. Gotta give it up to Taylor for sharing this wonderful nostalgic song to the world. Beautifully written.
This is so vulnerable and transparent, the original recording sounds like anger and frustration rooting from confusion and betrayal. The TV sounds like recalling a bitter memory but being able to move along. This sounds like the night after it happened, so miserable and sorrowful, almost empty, almost in denial of the loss of your lover. Taylor is amazing.

It just occurred to me how long that song was and that Taylor Swift must have a mind like a steel trap. I've never seen her mess up in a performance. She's got have a great capacity for memorization. I've written songs too but never in this magnitude and it takes some time for me to memorize. She's impressive.
Shes a singer for a reason
She forgot the lyrics to her own song in the middle of the song on the Eras tour, which is 3 HOURS long, but the audience laughed with her and they started to sing her song to her. She recovered beautifully, humbly apologising, and everyone felt closer to her. It was fantastic.
This song is perfect for when all the rage has passed, and the only thing left is sadly remembering the past. She's not belting as much here, it's all sung softly. Lightly. As if on the verge of tears. And she infuses every word with emotion, a wistful smile at "getting lost upstate", a longing at "anytime now he's gonna say it's love" etc. I think it's amazing that she switched the notes every here and there, to make it more sad than angry. I absolutely love this version ❤️
As if the 10 min version wasn't earth shattering enough, this is like Taylor said "ok, now lets do a version that's like me and the listeners are sitting on the floor, forehead to forehead and i'm singing it softly just to them."
Validating and comforting
It’s January 2024 and 2023 was the hardest year of my life. I am 10 yrs older than Taylor and started listening to her music. It saved my life. I hope on her hardest days she clings to the hope she’s given me. I’m just a common person and I know she is famous, but I keep her in my heart and prayers and truly want her safe and healthy and happy. ❤
