  • Hello Skaters! Today is a challenging, yet fun video for you. Since the US is celebrating Independence day this week, I thought it would be fun to do a little themed tutorial... we are learning Stars! Stars is a challenging way to get into a spin, most often a Camel or a Flying camel, but you can do any spin after that you would like.

    ❤❤❤ I used to be able to do this back in the late 90s when I skated in Lake Arrowhead I was pretty good considering I'm 6'3 on skates. I love your teachings I've started skating again after 12 yrs... I hate starting over. But being 54 now I'm very cautious ❤❤❤❤you're the best thank you!!!

      I'm 64 and skate with a Lady in her 80's that walks in with a cane and then puts on her skates. Wear protective padding because you can't give up and retirement will be much more enjoyable if you're in shape going into it. Thanks Friend, Coach helped me, give it your best.

      @@tomciras6672 oh wow!! That's super encouraging. I also rollerskate. I've never wore any protected gear always blessed with balance. But falling doesn't discriminate 😀 so learning all my edges again and trying to be patient 🙃 with myself I watch hours of Julia's video's during the week currently working on 3 turns.

      @@kirstenkramer3850 Gear up.Hips, tail bone, then knee,and elbow if extreme. Ice surfaces can also vary no matter your balance, never pressure at the rink.I love the workout so doesn't my Px

    I think you're the first online coach to do this tutorial. Been waiting for it forever.
    I asked my coach to teach me this two weeks ago so this is perfect timing.
    For me, I wasn't thinking that there would be any backward inside edge between stars and kept just biting the ice lol. There is a little backward inside edge you have to do.
    My coach also said you're supposed to travel forward on these. I love the pie crust analogy.

    • @CoachJulia
      @CoachJulia  Před rokem +1

      Yes, you do travel forwards, but there has to be that three-turn in there which causes you to glide backwards on the inside for a bit as well. Glad you liked the tutorial.

      @@CoachJulia thanks for all you do. You break down these complicated movements very nicely so even adults like me can learn haha.

    this probably my favourite move to do at the moment but I struggle to centre my spins after the stars so the tip about pushing into the circle after the last one was helpful so thank you!

    Thank you, finally I get it! Excited to try it when the season starts up. ❤ (Why couldn't anyone explain it this way earlier... Well, I know why, not their fault, my coaches are all amazing, but logistics and too little ice time, too few ice rinks to even have private sessions on and such. The veterans aren't the future, which is totally understandable. ) This was an eye-opener. Thanks again!

    You're not only a great Coach Julia, you are an American Ideal representing the USA every day! It's very cool, I'd called "Stars" an "Inward Triangle" makes me dizzy but to spin at the ending is crazy. You look great Coach, Happy 4th !!
