    I am glad I saw this. I had a soon to be mom of a little one who will most likely be a preemie & I had never made one. I made mine, taking into consideration the length of the tentacles, but not all these other factors. Guess I need to go try again.

    It was good to show that we need to check for more than the one finger compression test, that we need to check the top, sides, and neck for squishyness too! Thank you!

    Sir Noodle failed the lollipop test. Guess he gets to stay here and play. Oh well. We learned!

    Is this group still in operation? I noticed that there have not been any updates on Facebook Page in several years -- I would like to be certified as a donor.

    I would love to crochet these for Canadian hospitals. I am not on Facebook and cannot find any contact info other than to go to Facebook for Canadian standards or where to send them. Hope you can help. I'm in Ontario. Stay inspired!

    Wow I am confused. You have to use a 2.0 mm crochet hook? I have never used that small. I might have a steel hook that size, but what kind of yarn can you possibly use? I thought those tiny hooks were for thread rather than yarn. I really want to make an octopus, but don't know that it will be accepted. I am waiting approval to the FB group to see what the requirements are.

    Is the yarn brand Sugar N Cream allowed ? It's 100% cotton. Is the hook size of 3.5mm okay?

    • @OctopusforaPreemieUS
      @OctopusforaPreemieUS  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Arlina, Unfortunately, Sugar n Cream is not allowed for our project, here in the US. And we typically recommend using a hook between 2.0 and 2.75mm, depending on the yarn. Why does the head have to be stuffed so hard?

    • @OctopusforaPreemieUS
      @OctopusforaPreemieUS  Před 6 lety +3

      It is our standard to stuff it very hard because it will absolutely soften with time and washing. A firm, round head will help to prevent suffocation, as opposed to a squishy head that could cover a baby's nose and mouth.

    How do these octopus help the babies ????

    • @bloodynightmare3
      @bloodynightmare3 Před 4 lety +2

      Grabbing on to the tentacles will keep the babies from pulling out their tubes and reminds the baby of being in the womb

    • @tharealddog6660
      @tharealddog6660 Před 2 lety

      Cotton only and only these brands, I love this cotton from Hobby Lobby, no metallics, weight 4-medium, Patons Grace weight 3-light or Lion Brnad 24/7 cotton yarn weight 4-mediium -- unfortunately Peaches and Cream, Lily & Sugar, Bernat, Lion brand kitchen yarn -- are not acceptable due to roughness of yarn, color bleeding or rubbing off, etc

      Jessica Dodson, at this time, our program is run through our Facebook group. If you could connect with a local ambassador, they would be able to get you all the information you need and collect/ inspect your donations. What city do you live in?

    I can't believe how fussy you are about these.. Why must the heads be rock hard? Do the tentacles have to be curly?

    • @abbythoreson5933
      @abbythoreson5933 Před 3 lety +1

      You have to be fussy about them because they go to very young, small, delicate babies
      The heads go soft over time and if they're too soft they can suffocate the baby
