Leo DiCaprio has taken this role not only seriously, but to the absolute extreme. It's all in his steel cold blue eyes. And he finally got his reward for his part in a film that's big, beautiful, bold and cold.
The super wide shot of them facing off by the river at the end of the movie, when the sun breaks through the clouds, might be one of the most breathtaking natural light shots I've ever seen on film. A mindblowing piece of cinematography.
This film has so many of those types of shots. But yeah I agree that one is the best. Plus the shot thematically works given the scene between the two men. The sun coming through obviously represents justice or retribution. Especially given what happens next.
This is my favorite film of all time. When I first saw it years ago, it connected with me in such a deep way and every time I’ve seen it since I just love it even more. Such a flawless film and Leo’s best.
In the true story glass didn’t have a kid and never looked for revenge. He was thought to be dead when they left him. The beginning battle was actually a famous battle, can’t remember the name of it. Glass did find Fitzgerald and retrieved his rifle later. You can find their real stories on line, these mountain men were extremely resilient.
What's crazy is that the injuries the real life Hugh Glass got from that bear attack were soooo much worse than what was portrayed in this movie. His leg was totally broken, tons of bones broken, full chunks of flesh torn and fed to the bear cubs (including part of his booty!), and more. Yet this man really did drag, crawl, walk and successfully make his way back to that fort. An even more fun fact is that this particular story is not even the top craziest life event this man lived through! This guy was a tank with a crazy will to live. Until he got a little too old and let his guard down, that is, lol.
The film was mostly shot in Canada but some was filmed in Montana and, surprisingly Argentina. Every shot is perfection. An absolutely beautiful film yet utterly visceral. Great reaction. I always enjoy seeing Andrew on the channel.
The whole close up character shot action sequences are the standouts in this film. You can tell how much anger and emotion Leo's character expresses and it's just revenge that he seeks.
One of DiCaprio’s best films. The film reactions were absolutely visceral - the fight at the end with Glass vs Fitzgerald was one of the most vocals reactions, especially when the axe came out.
Please correct me if I’m mistaken, I think Leo as a father avenging his son, understood that the father or family of the girl who was violated also deserved to be avenged and that’s why he sent him down the river
Lubezki's cinematography is so strong and distinctive it practically trumps the signatures of the directors he's working for. Watch The New World, The Revenant, and Children of Men back to back and you might think he, not Malik, Iñárritu, and Cuarón was the director.
Well it definitely deserved all three of those awards !!!!! I never seen anything this visually beautiful , visually realistic or well acted as much as this & all put together in a single film ever!!! ❤
One of my all time favorite movies. I’ve probably watched it at least 20 times and it’s still absolutely visceral and riveting and beautiful and satisfying every single time.
Aside from Leo’s character and his son the only people in this movie I root for are the Native Americans who are fighting to protect themselves and their land.
I love this movie with all my heart and I've always been surprised by the very, very low volume of reactions to this film across youtube. Thanks for giving me something worth watching while I wait for my Lions to kickoff
I will forever remember my experience of seeing this in theaters. Late night showing and the coldest night of the winter, like -30 degrees and upon stepping out I was in the dead center of downtown Toronto, literally our equivalent of Times Square, and it was a ghost town. The darkness, the cold, the wind and the complete lack of people and cars fit the vibe so well
The beginning of the movie, when the men were skinning the hide until they got ambushed. The scene where the men were running to the boats. That is the same scene where Prey was filmed, as well as Legends of the falls, Last of Us, Shanghai Noon. The river is called Bow River and that spot is used in numerous films & TV series.
I love how some people just rant about how long a movie is , and then have no problem sitting through a Marvel movie that is as long , either if it's all ok or none of it is ok , just don't be a hypocrite
some people just cant handle and take in the calmness of some of the scenes, they need constant action to have their minds stimulated {aka be entertained}
GREAT REACT! This Truly, EPIC TALE of Survival, Inspired by Real Events had an Original Version called "The Man in the Wilderness" (1971) that starred Sir Richard Harris (aka Dumbledore)! Due to the Production Crew waiting for Clear Weather to Film, Dicaprio and Hardy rehearsed Scenes, eventually having to Finish Filming in Southern Argentina!! :o
TOM HARDY IS SO MEAN AND JUST RUDE AS HELLL IN THIS FILM. Brutal. Saw it for the 5th time last month and realized Tom Hardys character wouldn't stop cussing and being mean 🤣 i know he is a villain, but LMAO. This is the opposite of a boring movie...it's like Empire strikes back but in a crazy kinda way.
this happens far to much when i rewatch something that you guys are watching for the first time but i definitely just gained a far better appreciation for this movie
Hugh Glass was a real mountain man, from my knowledge they’ve changed his story a bit. He was forced into piracy for a few years before becoming a mountain man, lived with the Pawnee tribe for some time. When the bear attack happened Fitzgerald and Bridger agreed to hang back but after a week or so they both agreed to just leave him, so they didn’t get to far separated from the other group. Glass recovered and went on this insane journey of revenge. When he got to the camp Fitzgerald was already gone. He tried killing Bridger but stopped since once everyone found out Hugh was alive Bridger lost all credibility as a mountain man. Hugh went on Fitzgeralds path and finally found him but he had joined the army, the army wasn’t going to hand a soldier over to be killed by some random guy so Hugh told Fitzgerald he better stay in the army the rest of his life or he’ll find him and kill him.
It wasn't because the army wouldn't hand over him at all, it was because killing a soldier was a hanging offense that Hugh had been forced to turn away. He'd have shot him the moment he found him if that wasn't the case.
Will never forget so many scenes from this movie…the bear scene is obvious…but the horse jumping off the cliff was insanity then pulling a Luke Skywalker crawling inside…him hiding on river bank and getting into the freezing water half dead trying not to be seen…and so many of the beautiful dream sequences.
Top 5 DiCaprio: revenant, wolf of Wall Street, aviator, catch me if you can, the departed… honorable mention django.. but damn it’s so hard to choose 1 because everything he’s in he absolutely crushes it
This is truly one of the greatest films ever made, I could care less if people found it boring because for me it wasn't. One of my favorites. This film for me is so inspiring for how the idea of "filmmaking" should be taught in film schools. The pure real light, the one shots and wides without cutting is perfection. It really makes me wish that Alejandro Iñárritu could direct an actual war film with his style. He's also a filmmaker I wish was doing more. Leo absolutely deserved his Oscar for this movie. Same with Hardy but he obviously didn't get it sadly.
I hate that "boring" has become a legitimate criticism for some people. There's a lot of great films that are "boring" though I wasn't bored with "The Revenant".
The film that gave him his oscar but im shocked he didnt get one before!! I cried when they announced it and during his speech!! Keep up the great work yall!! ❤
While I still believe Tom Hardy is one of the greatest actors of this generation... Leonardo DiCaprio is just unmissable, he is fantastic in everything. You can't deny how good he is.
Supposedly this based on a true story. Leo’s character Hugh Glass is known for having survived being brutally mauled by the bear, killing it and then crawling 200 miles to the fort and surviving.
I mean to be fair…the mama bear was attacking him because he was about to kill her baby. That’s why when you run into a bear cub, LEAVE, because you know mom is right near by. Also, the bear was going to leave him, but he shot at her again, so of course she would attack again! I’m team Bear. 🐻
In real life bears maim their prey in order to incapacitate them so they can’t run away, they often will keep the animal alive so that it’s fresh when they come back to eat it. Mama bears are triggered to attack anything that moves as a defense mechanism but after they maul said creature they always feed it to their cubs
Awesome movie with beautiful cinematography Too bad there's little to no reactions to it on youtube. Besides dicaprio Tom hardy's acting was also incredible
I heard the real story was way worse which is rare in Hollywood. He did catch up with Fitzgerald but he couldn't touch him because Fitzgerald joined the army.
Read the Tao Te Ching and rewatch this several times. There are details and plot points that are revealing themselves to me after many months. It’s very much aligned with Zen.
Stumbled across this review because I have seen this film numerous times and wanted to watch again but with a reaction and you two were great company. ❤
Wil Poulter is playing a young Jim Bridger (a real person)...in Inglorious Basterds Pitt's character (LT Aldo Raine) mentions he's a direct descendant of the mountain man JIM BRIDGER.
Leonardo DiCaprio chose to devour a raw slab of bison's liver, even though he is vegetarian. “THE REVENANT” WAS ORIGINALLY GOING TO STAR SAMUEL JACKSON EXCEPT FOR ONE SCENE, THE ENTIRE FILM WAS SHOT IN NATURAL LIGHT. DiCaprio states, “I can name 30 or 40 sequences that were some of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do. Whether it’s going in and out of frozen rivers, or sleeping in animal carcasses, or what I ate on set. [I was] enduring freezing cold and possible hypothermia constantly.”
So glad Leo got his Oscar, but I actually think Tom Hardy gave the best performance in this movie. I realize it’s 100% subjective so it’s just my opinion. Leo has about 30 words of dialogue that aren’t subtitles for the first 2 hours of this movie so his performance is all off of physical acting. Where as Tom Hardy as AMAZING villain dialogue throughout.
I just watched this for the first time last month, holly shit that timings dope😂 GREAT VIDEO❤ amazing movie. Much love reject nation and fellow sexy rejects!!

A lot of people thought the bear scene was exaggerated for the movie. The bear is cgi but the attack is not exaggerated. Bears knock you down, bite and claw at the arms and legs, then finish by biting the head or face. Brown bears in particular will continue mauling you until you are either unconscious or dead so the key is to not move and DO NOT make a sound.
Dicaprio and Tom Hardy in an interview when this movie came out, both said it was the coldest they'd ever been and never want to do anything remotely close to this again. They said it was brutal conditions.

Such a great film! That bear attack scene had me shook. I don't wanna see a teddy bear, a care bear, a gummy bear, yogi bear, NONE OF IT!!!
Especially a cocaine bear 😂
Haha omfg that's frickin hilarious 😂
