- In the third episode of Dying Stories of Purani Dilli, we visit Shah Music Centre in the Meena Bazaar area of Old Delhi. Syed Zafar Shah, the present owner, is the third generation who is keeping the legacy alive of selling rare form of music and still selling the gramophones.
But, Zafar makes it a point that no one in the family works in the same business after him. In the music centre, you’ll find Mohammad Rafi in more than 10 languages. Baharon pool barsau can be found in English “we hail from different lands”. The most expensive record is Pink Floyd’s 70 RPM which costs around ₹1,00,000.
Kishore Kumar, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Floyd are the most sort after records and Zafar feels that people are slowly drifting towards gramophone and old records. Music in old way needs to be enjoyed in a certain way and there’s a difference between listening on analog and digital.

RD burman is not original.. atleast not all of his music. people want that music because RD Burman's music is originally taken from american, english bands from the 60s, 70s such as The beatles, Abba etc.. RD Burman just stole the tunes and just wrote romantic hingi lyrics on top of it. we gave him National Awards. what a shame.

there are many songs of hindi film songs which are not complete in records but complete in film, why company did not
Because HMV is a rotten company-
1. They edited the songs on record to fit maximum songs and even today they have not released the unedited versions digitally. Example--Kishore's Rimjhim gire saawan, O majhi re. Most often the 45 rpm records had shorter versions of the songs. You have chances of getting the original on 33 rpms but sometimes they used cropped songs even here, usually on compilations. So it's best to go for OSTs.
2. They never used the technology available around the world at that time for better sound quality even though they were present in many countries. While stereo recordings with amazing quality from the late fifties in the US could give cheap digital mp3s a run, HMV still used horrible recorders till mid eighties - even then many albums were mono in the same label.
3. Besides, HMV had nothing called quality control. Even if the original recording of a track is stereo, they used mono tracks on many releases if not all. The travesty continues even today. Example - The tracks of Kudrat are stereo on record but mono on CD and mp3.
Kudrat, Des Pardes, Kala Patthar and many others original recording was in STEREO but on cassettes and CDs was recorded in MONO. I don't know why HMV did this ? KALA PATTHAR and KUDRAT the original STEREO recording was not very effective. In HUM KISI SE KAM NAHI the Medly and Qawwali was recorded in STEREO, but other were in MONO. On LP it is mentioned SIDE A STEREO and SIDE B MONO. May this is the only Hindi movie where the songs recorded in STERE and MONO. But on CD you'll find all tracks in MONO.

I don't know why the heck religion is not getting evolved along with the world, Not talking about Islam as a particular religion but all religions in general.
I was once told that you can not sing and dance because the religion does not allow so, I simply asked them "Allah miyaan khud bole ya maulaana sahab ne bataya"
He replied "Maulana sahab bataye"
To which I said "Phir theek hain nacho gao koi gal ni"
I am really amused that how can a religion stop people from enjoying and celebrating the art when the very founders of Urdu poetry and Sufism are from that religion only.
Actually, the problem is with these maulvis and priests of different religions who mold and interpret religion as per their need and interest.
