When I really didn't want to take a chance breaking a tile when drilling, I would make a small donut out of modeling clay and press it onto the tile around the hole and fill it with water, then drill at a slow speed. A little extra work maybe, but it never failed me.
It is the heat and impact that breaks them.
Excelente idea gracias
Well done. Thank you for showing us how to do this correctly.
When you drill a tile just turn off the hammer function on the drill and use a piece of masking tape on the spot and you can do the drilling with an ordinary concrete drill.
Mine doesn’t even have a hammer function so I’m half way there already.
It just takes ages to get through the tile for me. It must be some super hard natural stone or something, took me like 3 hours for 2 holes.
@@y33t23same. My cordless drill’s full battery ran out of juice and I’m still not drilling through.
@@junangeles what was fortunate for me was that I wasn't drilling a tile that was in some sort of wall or anything, so I just switched to a brick material one and used the fast setting on a corded drill in a drill press going very slowly from small to big drill. Otherwise the drill will go red hot and the tile might crack. I put a perfectly level wooden board to drill into underneath because otherwise it would crack as well. After like 3 or 4 broken ones I finally had it down and could do one hole in like an hour or so.
Well I have drilled tiles a lot and what works for me is take the drill off hammer action with a bradawl tap gently and score a mark on the tile so the bit doesn’t slip.drill through the tile off hammer when you get through the tile put in on hammer action and drill into the wall. When you place the plug in the hole make sure the plug is passed the tile or you will burst the tile.
No, moja potrzeba sensowności wypowiedzi dała o sobie znać. Powodzenia😁
Muy buenos consejos. Gracias
Muchas gracias por la información.
Very good
GRACIAS X COMPARTIR ESTOS CONOCIMIENTOS,AHORRAREMOS MUCHA PLATA!!!!!!
Excelente...aunque los equipos son Caros.👑👑👑
Great video - how do you cut a L shape tile from a new tile.
Motoryzacja
Does this trick works with larger holes like air gap hole for tiled countertop in the kitchen? Thanks!
Good idea 🎉🎉🥰🥰🥰
Thank u
Good 👍👍😊
just use diamond drill bit (solid tube or hole saw). work the best.
I put up blinds and poles and tracks of all sorts for over 40 years, like Lenny Kelly below says gently score a small hole with a pointed bradawl then tap gently bradawl with a hammer to make the hole slightly larger then drill on slow speed not hammer action. i think i only broke 2 tiles in that time and they were about 50 years old so really brittle.
Te falto decir que tipo de broca...
According to my experience, yes you can go with impact and do what you need to do fast and effective, if the tile guy has done quality job tile wont brake. But impact hole has guite extensive edges, sometimes you need perfect edges and cant take risk that tile guy has put one tile shitty. So there are to ways todeal with it.. for diys, few holes take universal drillbit lightly larger than a hole you are going to drill, tap it lightly with an hammer while turning it on the tile to get rid of the glaze, take ceramic, glass or a masonry drill bit and drill hole on low turns. For advanced amateurs:buy normal quality drill bits for ceramic, puncturemark hole with an old drillbit and drill on low speed, dont forget to cool bit with water and charge more for installation as you are burning trough drillbits. Remeber, you allmost never drill on the ideal circumstances on the floor between two tiles, you drill on the wall on the edge of the tile
Just get some bosch multi construction bits , for ceramic or marcrist diamond hole saws for porcelain
I still have a bit like that in my screw gun case. I've been carrying it around for 25 year and every time I updated my screw gun that ceramic bit made it there too..
Whats the secret?? I've been a tiler for well over 20 years & I've been using diamond drill bits since I started tiling for making holes.
Wat he pour in glass between drilling????
@@shikhajain8488 it's just water
Take it off hammer setting and the masonry bit will cut through the tile.
The only people who don't know this secret are those who have never even contemplated tiling.
Ale magik
Porcelain Tile too works???
Do wiercenia wstępnego używam wkręty stalowe( fosfatowane 3,5 x 35 mm do metalu ) z płetwą a następnie wiertło do betonu z widią.
Good video but adding voice would be very helpful.
and cutting with a sharp knife is as old as the world and is only valid for large pieces for narrow pieces of 2,3,4,5 cm, what do you do?
what secret? that's what those drills are for.
The secret is just to make you click
And drill at slow speed

you forgot to show the secret, you only showed a tile drill that you can buy everywhere
if you water the portion you are drilling on tile it will not break
@@BlueBird18923 that's not a secret..
That is, do you use a ceramic bit to drill ceramics? Damn, what a great idea. Who would have ever thought that?😂😂
I had to drill through a 10mm thick tile , so I used silicone to create a circle , filled it with water, and then drilled . Simples.
Einstein at the ready. 😊
Here’s another method: diamond-edged hole saws in various diameters.
but, how about mounted wall tile ?
A small screwdriver to get through the enamel by spinning it with hands clasped together, similar to rubbing a stick when lighting a camp fire. Then a few drops of water and you drill through no problem.
Yeah, ya get a drill w/ a diamond tip and wet drill it - kinda like ya need a specific drill bit for stone, brick, concrete, etc
Why were you using hammer modes on others two? Huh
If you're gonna drill glass or tile, use a glass and tile bit... That's the big secret?
At the very beginning, he tried hammer option ( crazy !!! ).
The focal point is break the outside glassed surface of the tile with a hard tip of steel, then go on drilling at low speed, the tile internally is more soft ; best using water and pay attention when the bore is almost completed, the drill bit can force too much on the remainig parts and break the whole tile ...
Why did you drill with hammer function - 1st drill - then selected drill function - 2nd drill - with the special bit? Rhetorical question.
For over 30 years I have been drilling holes in the tiles according to illustration no. 3, i.e. with SDS drills with impact. So far, I have broken about 2 tiles out of 1000. I am a trained gas-water-heating installer. Tile layers also drill with impact and SDS drill bits. These special drills make it easier than with SDS. But this way with the broken tiles is not right, it only happens to laymen.
I have NEVER seen anyone try and drill any kind of tile with either an SDS action nor a Percussion action engaged! Think about it, if you hit a tile with a hammer, is it going to bend or crack? Just stick a piece of masking tape on the tile where you want to drill, to stop the drill from skipping/wandering, and drill with an ordinary masonry drill with no impact shenanigans.
Your talking boll@x
You can buy a special drill for the job, used on slow speed with hammer off. And do not press to hard.
Hammer function is best reserved for bricks / blocks ( or driving decking screws ) .............. DAVE™ .......
Em português são ladrilhos ou azulejos ...
how lucky you super brains exist.
And now we all know.
On one side, there is the "hammer" function and on the other, no ! LOL

The other method is to soak the tiles in water for at least 30 mins before drilling ....
If no one knows this secret then why do so many companies make drill bits for tiles ??????

Is really someone so stupid drilling such a hole with the Hammer-Function?

you caaaan use a normal masenry drill- but oc never the hammer addet
It's pretty wildly known that you don't use the hammer function to drill tiles and I would fire any installer who cuts tile that way. If you want quality results, don't follow the ideas in this video.
these tiles break because they are not glued. if they were glued to the ground with good quality glue they wouldn't break
