    Another Free Video By Bikers for Bikers
    Harley-Davidson-Clutch-Inspection-Cover-PrimaryThis is a complete and thorough tutorial video on adjusting the clutch internally on your Harley Davidson motorcycle with a cable operated clutch. This is not for Harley models with a hydraulic operated clutch.
    Why waste your money by having to take you Harley to the dealer for such an easy project? We guarantee you will be able to do this yourself after watching this video.
    We take off the clutch inspection cover and expose the clutch to do this. An internal clutch adjustment can be done whenever you like. If it is difficult at times to find gears when shifting, if your bike is shifting a bit rough, or if the clutch won't start engaging until you have let the clutch lever out all the way then go ahead and adjust it. Refer to your owner's manual for specific adjustment intervals.
    Once you adjust the clutch internally you can then make fine adjustments on the clutch lever to make it feel how you want. There is also a free video on this page for that adjustment.

    Once the screw makes contact you are supposed to back off CCW 1/2-1 turn, then tighten the lock nut.

    By pulling the clutch lever three times to "set the balls and ramps," do you need to return the handle bar lever to its "natural" position to make sure you the lever is not pulling on the cable, causing the inner ramp to rise over the balls and causing excess slack in the line?

    Thanks for the good video.
    Contrary to what some have said you did not talk too much on this video. If you talked less then they would complain you didn't explain enough.
    Keep up the good work!

    I just took the clutch basket and the compensator assembly to change my stator. When I reassembled everything I couldn’t get the clutch adjustment bolt to sit properly. Where you guys say it should lightly be seated. The bolt is not locking. It seamed like it should grab something or have another nut after the cover that says “out”. I’m stuck.When you seat it lightly and then back off a half to full turn that adjustment bolt it free, not touching anything inside. I doubt I explained it properly.

    Back off half turn is ccw not cw. Did I hear that right. With hyd. clutch is the only adjustment at the clutch assy only since there is no cable.

    instead of using a tool on the Adjuster, just use your fingers, or a reg Allen wrench cause you can feel resistance a hell ofa lot better once it starts to seat, you want that adjusting screw, to just barely start feeling resistance.. then back out 1/2 to 3/4 inch turn..

    • @RyanUrlacher
      @RyanUrlacher  Před 7 lety

      It can be done that way. I can tell you I adjust tons of clutches on our police motors unit. I can easily feel it from much experience with a wrench. Either way though will work.

    I wonder if doing this adjustment would help my downshifting problems? lately when slowing down my harley will not allow me to downshift. mainly into 2nd and 1st gear. up shifts fine and doesn't do this everytime just more than normal. bike is a 09 superglide custom with 18k. not sure it's every been adjusted. What do you recommend?

    • @RyanUrlacher
      @RyanUrlacher  Před 8 lety

      +DWerty I would start with this adjustment because it is quick and easy. It's possible that your bike wont down shift smoothly if your clutch isn't completely disengaged. Ride safe & Ride Often!
