    This is such a helpful video! I was accepted as an exchange student for one term, and if I get to go (depend on pandemic) I’d love to know more or get in contact with you! I’m an Asian American from a big busy city (also a city girl haha) so I was worried I wouldn’t be used to the lifestyle in Edinburgh (less busy, food, etc)

    There is a famous book called "The Silent Traveller in Edinburgh" by Chiang Yee, an official of Republican China who came to the UK to study and teach ninety years ago. He wrote about (& painted) several places. To his eyes, Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh looked more like a sleeping elephant than a recumbent lion. He encountered more racism in Oxford: Chinese people were not allowed inside the Trinity College there in his time.

      Hey!! Thanks for commenting 🥰 Honestly I haven't visited Edinburgh before going to the university and I was quite worried too because I don't know how is it like etc but trust me that'll be fine because people there are really friendly and the city/campus is nice too 😆 Hmm for the "communal centre", I'd say there are a ton of opportunities, events, activities that you could meet A LOT of people! For example, if you are staying in the student accommodation, there's welcoming week activities (good for bonding) or different events organised by societies/ Uni Student Association so you'll have a lot chances to make friends ! Everyone's at the same place and most of them are happy to meet different people so don't be scared xx (don't know how the situation will be this year due to covid but I guess many societies / the uni will still organise several physical/virtual activities for you guys🥳 ahaha I'll upload another video focusing on student life/ how I make friends etc this week hope that'll be helpful xx

      @heizelsdiary3739  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey there! Sorry for the late response as I missed all the notifications :( Tbh in the 'official' requirements listed on the uni website, IELTS marks will be like a 6 or 6.5 but if you want to be in a competitive position, perhaps above 7, desirably a 7.5 will give you an advantage edge. Hope this helps and feel free to shoot me more questions x

    • @heizelsdiary3739
      @heizelsdiary3739  Před 3 lety

      Hey!! that truly is, these three were also the SAME choices for me as well. I think if you want a more international experience, definitely consider LSE or UoE as HKU is just a crowd of locals (I studied there a year there and I just think its not for me). As for the consideration between LSE and UoE, I think you can compare the subjects and the location (London's quite expensive but very accessible to everything)- hope this helps & sorry for the late response I missed all the notifications earlier : (

      @@heizelsdiary3739 Thx for providing me suggestion and information! Now I am struggling to make a choice between LSE and UoE, and I got MSc of Global Health Policy from these two schools. I have no idea which school is better to help me find a job in U.K after graduation. Someone told me the job market of London is larger than Edinburgh, but someone think Edinburgh is friendly to international students. I am looking forward to hear from your opinion. Thanks.

    • @heizelsdiary3739
      @heizelsdiary3739  Před 3 lety

      @@gracechen5482 Glad to know that you're narrowing it down to these two - I think London definitely got a larger job market but at the same time the competition will be high. Edinburgh Uni is a large university and got a lot of international students. I think it really depends on what kind of experience you are looking for and especially where you want to work at. I'd say UoE is also highly regarded in no matter what area in the UK but LSE has a good reputation in economic and social sciences. If you want to particularly have an advantage edge in the London job market, I reckon LSE will be a great choice!

      You can manage to live almost anywhere in the world without learning the local language, but that's somewhat at odds with the whole idea of "studying abroad." If you want to be surrounded by Englishmen while studying in Scotland, it would be better to go to St Andrews.

      @@diamushroom9298 I think doctorate students can definitely try applying through university for it but the chance is slim because its not guaranteed (they usually give the priority to first year and exchange students).
