Learn how to measure window screens. The DIY way to accurately get screen measurements for windows. There are two ways to get a proper measurement. The first is when you have the old screen available. The second is measuring the window frame channel, which may require additional knowledge. Especially on how to read a tape measure.

A lot of time when you have these window screens and you measure them, you know you might measure it and sometimes it may not fit. You may have to trim it down. SO be advised when you are with measuring window
screens not everyone is an expert even the experts. Therefore you will need a chop saw or a hack saw to trim your frames and also the rolling tool to rescreen the screening back into the frame.
If you are planning on doing window screens yourself, make sure that you have those tools available and you can do that. Don't expect to order a window screen and have it fit all the time. Just because if you measure you
measure correctly, for some reason, sometimes they just don't fit.

On the width, why do you deduct 5/16"? I don't think you said...also, do you deduct for the height?
Is it because of the side spring thingy?
He loss me too, I was told to add -1/8" on width and add 1/8" on height
You mention a shallow end and a deep for both width and height. The tape measurer was inserted into the deep end for the width, and then the shallow end when measuring height. Why are the measurements taken differently? Also 5/16 subtracted from width, why? And should anything be subtracted from height?
One side is deducted on a slider window because the channel is deeper on the side then the top. Its the opposite on Single Hung or double hung windows.

I have aluminum windows and am trying to measure the window dimension inside the channel. How much do I need to deduct or add on the width and height measurements after initial measurements? Is it 5/16?
It depends on windows. 5/16 is a sade deduction for slider windows
I see some problems here: if you're measuring from the middle of the frame you have to make sure you're ending it perpendicular on the opposite site or else you might end up with slide angle and therefore extra length.
Also, when you measure from inside on one side and the other side goes outside, that's another nonperpendicular angle and wrong length. Why not measure from inside only , and use the side of the frame and just bend the measuring tape?

Are you installing in a vinyl, aluminum or wood frame window? Or is it a solar screen you are needing to install?
How did you know that you needed to deduct 5/16????
Math and logic based on that window. I had taken the window screen off and measured it first, so I new the final dimension. That allowed me to get my deductions.
Some windows are different. For example the frames of an aluminum window versus a vinyl window are very different.
@@Bestcustomscreenswhat’s the difference? I’m working with aluminum and there is nothing on that. The channels are deep on both sides. 😊
@@AnthonyPerez The general rule of thumb, is the window channel where the window screen slides into should be 1/16" bigger than the window screen frame. Vinyl windows typically have a 5/16" frame, and aluminum windows use a 3/8" frame. To confirm measure the dimension of your window channel.

He failed to acknowledge the corner pieces...I think the 5/16 is the adjustment to accommodate corner pieces?
Measure window screens is not always an easy task. Even the most experienced installers may have to trim the window screens on the job
