Thickeners such as Acrylates Compolymer (Acrylates octylacrylamide copolymer), Xanthan Gum, Carbomer 980 QD and GelMaker® Powder (Acrylates C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer). All these thickeners are used in shampoos, shower gels, serums, creams & lotions.

And is not generally true that the thinner or lower viscosity all else being equal will be more readily absorbed into the skin.

      Theoretically yes, but it very much depends on the formula. The most widely used thickener for lip gloss is polyisobutene.

    what about using hydrogenated castor oil as a thickener or is that too difficult and requires too much heat?

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  Před 2 lety

      Hydrogenated castor oil isn't as effective a thickener like the ones discussed in the video. Not sure whether it thickens at all.

    • @danhayes5225
      @danhayes5225 Před 2 lety

      if have one essential main active component which can be significantly weakened by too much heat and esp if try putting the castor oil 'flakes' in castor oil itself seems useless as it just will not dissolve.
