If you're not planning to keep the broken mosfets, they're easier to remove if you clip the legs then remove each leg one at a time. You don't have to keep the solder on all three legs melted to remove them this way.

Changing all of the transistors and diodes is always a good idea, as when there is a short those left are stressed and will fail in the near future. I would never do any work on top of a battery, shorts equal fire.

I have been using two Reliable-brand 3000W pure sine inverters over a period of about 18months and they had been very un-reliable and troublesome indeed. I have not been abusing them with crazy inductive overloads or such, but they were used under real world conditions, for what an inverter should be built for. I ended up swapping the units in action, using one as a spare while I had to repair the one that broke. They seem to work well for some time and then crap up, sometimes completely out of the blue, the promised protection circuits are just not working properly. I had to repair them about 5 times within that period 18month (usually not all Mosfets and IGBT were breaking) So far all spares were provided free of charge from 'Reliable'. As you show in your video they are fixable, but what's the point, if they crap up time and time again. Although the company had been quite good in respect to providing spares, I certainly can't recommend 'Reliable' or probably any of the cheap Chinese inverters as they are all not properly designed. I tried to get a schematic from Reliable and they said they don't have one, how can a manufacturer/ designer not have a schematic for troubleshooting?? (maybe they are just assembling).
My recommendation, don't waste your money (and time!!!) on these ‘Reliable’ inverters, unless you want to teach yourself power electronics and learn soldering skills the hard way. The brand name simply suggests the wrong idea.
Anyone serious about alternative power and off grid: think about investing in something better like Outback or the other brands that are proven to work long term. Yes, they are 8-10 times more expensive to start with, but you will have no more nightmares, no endless repairs and better support if needed.

I am really split in my opinion as mine have been amazing, then I see others with problems/braking them :S hope they get better if there is a problem! what inverter did you end up buying?

Trick with the SMD resistors, use two soldering irons to melt both ends. A 2nd one of those little irons should do.
The technical term for those resistors in this circuit is "gate resistors", as they connect to the gate of the IGBTs/mosfets.

you can use the ground as long as it is not bound to the neutral, check with a multi meter from the ground on the inverter outlet to live and then do the same to neutral, you should get close to 50% volts both ways.

I have the 6kw version with 36 Volts.
First one lastet 3 Months, these units are great at delivering Power, but not reliable at all. Its always the input Mosfets that break, i swapped them a couple times now. Iam thinking about replacing them with a different Type of Mosfets to see if the mosfets itself are the problem. But i guess its a design problem with these Inverters.
They sent me a replacement Motherboard, and it lastet about 6 months. Again these Mosfets are broken.
All in all these Inverters had a runtime of maybe 300 hours before they died.
Iam just asking myself why they dont try to solve problems like that.

I bought a new Nimtek NM5000 pure sine, 5000w inverter through Amazon to power my off-grid cabin via its solar system. Although motors and computers make more noise than expected from a pure sine inverter, it works. After a month, I needed an extra socket to plug a reading light on my headboard, so I plugged in my APC surge protector for more outlets. The Site Wiring Fault was on. I switched to generator power and the SWF LED was off. I turned my inverter back on and plugged the surge protector into one of it's 110 outlets and the SWF light was on. The inverter housing is grounded, the negative cable connection from the battery bank to inverter goes through a combiner box that is grounded. My positive inverter cable goes to the red connection post and negative to black. I have not experimented with switching the polarity to see if that's the problem. Nimtek has ignored my requests to help troubleshoot the problem. What should I do?

    • @GoingOffGrid101
      @GoingOffGrid101  Před 5 lety

sounds like this inverter might be a modified sine wave, also the neutral and ground needs to be bounded for some devises to work, but the inverter might have a live ground and bounding the neutral and ground might blow it up. there are videos to make a cable to get around the ground fault your ups is having. I would search diy ground fault cable for generators

    • @GoingOffGrid101

one easy was is to use a super cheap digital volt meter and see if it shows the correct voltage 110v-120v if it sows it in the 90v range its most likely a modified sine wave

I do own one of their 500 watt units for when I need pure sine wave but rely on the 2000 watt Jupiter Mod square wave for the heavier loads. Came in handy today when commercial power went down and needed to run the small A/C unit to keep the house cooled. One thing I've noticed about the Reliable, what it says is what its rating puts out. Others have an overload capacity of twice or more for surge loads.

I'm also at a loss as to why the inverter blew. I wasn't for the reason the one you're working on did.
One morning when I turned it on it went pop

thats weird, there has been 4 of these inverters I know of that broke simpler to this but mine have not had a problem :S I hope you can get it working or get a new one at 150 buck like they offer.
