- Is Greece Expensive? Have a look at Athens supermarket prices at Alfa-Beta Vassilopoulos (AB Supermarket) in the Monastiraki area of Athens. If you are thinking of living in Greece and want to know how bad inflation is on food prices, check out the prices in this AB Supermarket to compare to your local food prices. Or if you are staying in the Monastiraki area and want to know how much food costs before you visit, check out this video.
I take a tour of the supermarket and compare food costs in Greece to other countries. Do you think Greece is expensive, cheap, or average?
Thank you …finally someone that has content for the financially curious travellers.
I'm glad you liked it. I always want to know what things cost compared to the US or other countries I travel to.
AB Vasilópoulos is very good in quality, but rather expensive. You can find quality and gourmet products. Sklavenítis is the supermarket most Greeks go to. But family people and pensioners mostly go to laikí (ağorá), which is a street vegetable, fish and clothes market, which takes place on a specific day once a week, depending on the neighborhood. Where I live in Gyzi, I go to the laikí on Wednesday and buy fruit, vegetables, fish, legumes, rice and nuts, and then I go to the supermarket for all the rest, like meat, dairy, sugar, coffee, flour, pasta, spices etc. and cleaning products.😊
The fruit and vegetable market across from the fish market on Athenas has some good prices.
thanks for taking the time to do this video; great info brother!
Glad it was helpful!
Alfa-Beta Vassilopoulos or simply AB is a supermarket chain based in Greece.
Its parent company is Ahold Delhaize, Delhaize "Le Lion' Nederland B.V.
I did not know that. Thanks for the info.
In Germany, discounter chains are selling everything shown here for more or less the same (but consider salary in Germany ! )
I like Aldi in Florida.
looks nice supermarket ..any way i love athens
Me too!
Outdoor farmers market. Every neighbourhood has 1 or 2 a week. Butchers in Every neighbourhood as well as independent dairy producers.
Hey nick great video we're there no plates for sale to smash on the dance floor
With the high prices of everything these days, they might have to pause that tradition for a while.
@@ToGoIsToKnow It is paused since the 60's. Only non Greeks or diaspora Greeks think we still break plates.
The video begins with Dana White
In Kefalonia, I was finding half litre extra virgin olive oil for 6 euros ! Seems a lot for a local product.
That is a lot. I just bought a 3 liter can of Kalamata extra virgin olive oil for $28 in New York.
@@ToGoIsToKnow 4 euro a liter in Turkey by the aegean sea
This specific supermarket is an expensive one. Only rich people and tourists go to that place.
Yes, it is one of the most expensive ones.
@@ToGoIsToKnow actually I find it crazy as they had a shampoo with 8€ !
You've literally gone to the most expensive super market in Greece. I never shop there, the prices are ridiculously expensive
Yes, I did mention that it was right in Monastiraki and so was more expensive than most supermarkets.
@@ToGoIsToKnow it's not only the location but also the brand name of the super market. They provide a comfort shopping environment for the costumers but they are No1 most expensive in Greece
greece is very expensie. anthotiro cheese which is like ricotta is over 6 euros a kilo. too expensive for greece plus americans have better salaries than the greeks. a tiny jar of peanut butter is 4 or 5 euros.
I never heard of anthotiro cheese. Peanut butter was cheaper than that because I bought some and if it was 5 Euros I would not have bought it. The everyday Greek food was not bad and this is one of the more expensive supermarkets because of the area. Peanut butter is not very common in many places. In both Brazil and Poland, it was over $10 for a small jar.
dude its way cheaper in crete
That is surprising. Usually prices on an island are more expensive.
@@ToGoIsToKnow not in crete
Mate, is crete a nice place to settle down? İ am a 45 from Turkey and think of purchasing Real estate in greece and living there..all i want is some peace and good neighbors..finding it in Turkey is hard nowadays..thanks for the information in advance
It's called a "laiki"
For a third world country it’s not bad my friend
Greece is not a third world country, you i-diot !
WTF !... its triple than in Istanbul !
AB is belgian market thats why more expensive... sclavenitis the best....
The My Market supermarket was pretty good.
@@ToGoIsToKnow its good but nothing like sklavenitis !!!! Half chicken 3 euro fresh and cooked...🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧
