    The Gerald R. Ford is the most expensive and largest carrier ever constructed and is scheduled to join the United States Navy fleet in late 2022. According to a 2009 report, the cost of this nuclear giant is almost $14 billion. To put it into perspective, with that kind of money, you could build three One World Trade Centers and still have enough money to buy a large collection of high-end sports cars!
    🎬 Key Points:
    📌 She is a super carrier with a displacement of approx. 100.000 long tons. Gerald R. Ford and her sister ships will embark two squadrons of ten to twelve F-35C Joint Strike Fighters, two squadrons of ten to twelve F/A-18E/F Super Hornets, five EA-18G Growler electronic attack jets, four E-2D Hawkeye airborne early-warning and control aircraft, and two C-2 Greyhound carrier onboard delivery (COD) planes. It will also carry eight MH-60S Seahawk helicopters.
    📌 It will embark the MQ-25 Stingray refueling and intelligence collection drone, the eventual planned sixth-generation fighter to replace the Super Hornet, and maybe a new long-range strike drone.
    📌 The V-22 Osprey tiltrotor is also set to replace the C-2 Greyhound in the COD role. Its two new-design Bechtel A1B reactors generate energy sufficient enough to power 260.000 detached houses!

    30knots is not the Ford’s top speed, it is officially stated from the USN that, its top speed can exceed 30knots, means it could go faster than 30 knots, but how fast is classified. It is rumored that USN supercarriers in general can achieve around 40-45 knots, so they can out run their own smaller escort ships.

      True. When it gets going it throws a rooster tail higher than the flight deck. They cover the "speedometer" on the bridge so no sailor can actually see how fast they are going. • @Kirin2022
      @Kirin2022 Před rokem

      That's not their plan. Most likely they are continuing to improve the accuracy of their nuclear ballistic missiles. Why? There is no real credible capability to shoot down an incoming intercontinental ballistic missile. As of 2022, no nation really has a credible capability in this respect. Whilst anti-ballistic missile technology exists, current technological advances do not stretch to a capable system to protect against even a limited ICBM attack. If the Chinese decide they have no choice but to go to war against the U.S., you can be sure that they would attempt a Pearl Harbor-type mass first strike. The main difference is that today, unlike Japan in 1941, the Chinese know exactly where every single American surface ship is located at all times, and vice versa. So, whoever goes first could potentially wipe out the other's navy overnight. The other possibility that worries our navy is that just as the aircraft carrier made battleships obsolete overnight, a new technology will someday make aircraft carriers obsolete overnight. That new technology could be the drone swarm. Drones are being used to devastating effect in recent conflicts. And that's with mere handfuls of drones flying in any skirmish. The thing is, the Chinese are suspected to be more sophisticated at managing massive drone formations better than anybody else. Hopefully, American military planners are is not as complacent about underestimating the Chinese threat as the average intenernet jingoist.

They likely have enough cruise missiles to make up for any lack of aircraft. Their anti air weapons are the best in the world and all the ships together capable of taking out hundreds of aircraft. All the ships can engage beyond the horizon. All the Ford has to do is provide a command center with air and surface recon and it did it's job. We're not in a hot war yet and the Ford fleet is there to say don't start one because the response will be within minutes of the attack and there are many other US and NATO assets which can support the fleet at the drop of a hat.

    Years in the planning , 13 years in construction , 4 years after commissioning it still can't go on deployment . Deployed 4th of this month and it's the 25th now and it still can't go to sea . It would be awesome if it could actually do something useful , like put to sea on deployment hopefully some time before I die .

    It's actually the spy 6 that is not quite yet dual band but will be supposedly. It's basically just a software upgrade they're working on I guess?. But yeah something like it says the dual band feature will start on radar set number 16 or something, but that's counting every type of SPY-6 not just the one replacing the SPY3. The Ford will be the only of the class to have SPY3(it was originally SPY3 plus SPY(X-BAND) same as Zumwalt was supposed to, then Administration's who don't know shit started making MASSIVE budget cuts cuz for some reason(bought and paid for by CCP) DC "experts" seemed to ignore the massive DEVIL growing stronger in the East just waiting to pounce, and so they just decided "We don't have any near peers, let's cancel ALL are most crucial projects while publishing our R&D WHAT COULD GO WRONG!?!?!
    Anyways sorry about that little rant, so in total I think Lockheed has delivered six or seven complete SPY-6 sets with around #16-20 will be the first to have the dual band "upgrade". Which really should start to come pretty quick cuz they're starting or they're finally getting into full rate production and if you don't know the Spy6 radar is amazing and it's going to make up our main Naval radar for All ships you are going to be firing missiles at anything in the air and especially if they're going to be performing ballistic missile defense. Instead of just being one specific radar design for one specific area on a specific ship, spy 6 is actually what's made up of what they call rma's which are radar module assembly assembly I think, anyways there one foot by one foot individual spices radars that you essentially just piece together to create whatever size you can fit. So that's why they're it's going to be the whole fleets radar, they can backfit an 24RMA SPY6 on to the flight IIa Burke's which essentially 10× its power while the flight III's have the full size which is made up of 37 rma's which is supposedly 30× more sensitive thand the old SPY1D...

    ALL aircraft carriers are STEAM powered. What creates the steam is the crucial difference between American and Chinese carriers. The USA uses NUCLEAR power to create the steam which turns the generators that power the ship and its propellers. Chinese carriers burn fuel oil to create the steam and are thus very limited in their range and must be refueled every month or so. The American carriers can go decades before needing to be refueled an so can go unlimited distances and stay out indefinitely if needed, limited only by the supplies it needs to feed and support the crew. The same goes for American nuclear submarines. This is why America virtually OWNS the seven seas.
