"You're definitely not buying a Gibson." . . . was the last thing she ever said to me.
I just recently bought one . The wine colored one and I love it! I’m probably not good enough to really tell the difference between the Gibson LP and the Epiphone LP , but my checking account does ! lol. The only thing I can say is if you get one make sure you look real good at the neck and headstock . Mine was cracked at the joint right out of the box. GC exchanged it with no problems. 🇺🇸💙👍🙋♂️🖖🏻
Honestly they are outstanding guitars!! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
Love mine thanks for the review 😊
Hey DP. Love the vibe you're getting with this LP. Not normally a gold top fan but......
All the best bud.
Hey Chip! Thanks man, hope you’re doing well!
Thanks for your review, i Love it.!!
My pleasure!
High output pups, split coil versatility and beautiful fit and finish. What a smashingly great value. Love that tone through the Hot Rod. There is some kind of mystical tonal crossover between teles and LPs that to me speak to the essence of rock. Enough of that, great presentation of a beautiful guitar. Cheers!
It’s definitely a keeper! I was totally surprised at how good it really is!! And sounds great through both amps! Cheers!
Nice looking and sounding guitar. Really enjoy seeing someone excited about a new guitar. New Epihones are outstanding. I purchased the Standard about a year ago. Still getting used to the chunky 50s neck. It's a beautiful guitar and very resonant with good sustain. I haven't found a flaw in it's construction. Frets were a little gritty in places but that was an easy fix. Very pleased with Epiphone.
Thanks Bill, after playing this I never felt the need to own a Gibson, it was that good!
I just picked up one of these and I absolutely love it! I went in to get an SG, but I ended liking this one more in the moment, so its what I went home with. 😊 I couldn't be happier.
Amazing! Thanks for watching
I played one of these at G.C. today and it felt so good!!!! Satin finish and the neck was actually pretty chunky which I like. It felt like an old vintage les paul.. but felt brand new at the same time. Really blew me away I just can't say enough.
Thanks for the comment! Cheers
Recently found one in Worn Wine color in a small local shop and without hesitation, grabbed it...an amazing guitar. Enjoyed the review. Thank you.
Fantastic find! And thanks for the comment!
Just got one like this yesterday. Yes, 10-15 minutes before I picked my jaw up off the floor. Ripped the cables from the pass-through on my keyboard and tuned her up. Was a little tight -- I would've losened the strings a bit before shipping. One bar and I'm near to tears. I had figured on swapping out strings for Duck's Deluxe, but no not this time. Every note is right on and the sustain is unbelievable. Push-pulls, tones, & volumes all work as they should. Wife called from work to share in the excitment and interrupted while I talked, "Are you crying?" she asked. Yes, I replied, This guitar plays as beautiful as you on our wedding day. Seriously, that is the first thing that came to mind when I heard this guitar play.
Man it's an incredible thing and i just couldn't stop looking at it for 15 minutes before playing it, glad you had the same experience with it!
Fantastic sounding guitar!!
Thanks! I’m over the moon with it
bought the worn blue one, waiting for it to arrive as i write this. thanks for the review
Very nice!!! And thanks for the comment and kind words
Derek - thanks for the demo and feedback on this beauty of a guitar! I bought one of these in early April 2021, so I've played it for a year now and I can say without a doubt, that I love this guitar at least as much as you do! It was pretty much ready to play right out of the box (but I brought it to my favorite NYC luthier for a complete set-up anyway, since I wanted the action a little lower). It plays like a dream, the electronics are solid; I LOVE the coil-splitting, too. And yes - IT IS a beautiful guitar visually, too. I got it for $449 back then, a year later, the same store (Guitar Center) sells it for $499. It's a steal at either price! I really like what you chose to play to demonstrate its features, too.
Thanks very much for the comment!! It’s really appreciated and such an un-discovered guitar, it’s truly amazing and those pickups!!!!
Just ordered one from Zzounds... back in stock. Looking forward to it. Thanks for the review.
Nice and thanks for the comment!! i think you'll be pleased with it!
I own the les paul worn purple , and just think its wonderful. Plays better than my 81 gibson custom.
Cool vid. I just grabbed one of these a couple weeks ago, and I love it. Mine is the worn deep red finish. Beautiful guitar. I also have this one's cousin. The Epiphone Les Paul Classic - in this exact finish. Worn gold. I swear... it is literally the same exact guitar as the Tra Pro IV. Even has the exact same pickups. I am like you - absolutely STONE COLD in love with that worn gold finish. It's amazing. I think the Tra Pro IV and the Classic are identical - and I love both of them. Epiphone is killing it right now - and so glad they FINALLLY got the head-stocks right! OK - I'm subbing.
Thanks for the comment and sub! I agree….. epiphone are nailing it at the moment, such a fantastic guitar! And the worn gold! Cheers
Damn! That's really really nice! I've had a long hankering for an LP style gold top, but an actual Gibson would be too extravagant for a noodler. But maybe that's the one that gives you the vibe without breaking the bank. Phenomenal specs! I'd better sell a few paintings this week. ❤
It has a great vibe! And the finish on it!
I got the copper coulerd epi traditional pro with the case and its my favourite guitar ...try and get an SG ...the g400 or sg 400 pro is a good buy
Great to hear!
Thanks John!
So many negative coments, a guitar is a guitar, is u as a player to make it sound great, not the Frets or wrong pick ups or the wood! Keep rocking 🤘
Noob
My fav LP's are Goldtops. Great video!!!
Thanks for the comment!!
Great playing! Saved myself thevtrouble of changing out the pickups by getting the Slash goldtop with custombucker's. Best Les Paul I ever played and only $799.00!
Thanks man! That sounds fantastic! Good price too
Been playing for 47 years, own many Gibson Les Paul’s including a 1960, as well as a few vintage Teles and Strats ,a 50’s tribute,a 59 Epiphone and a Gibson Les Paul Special with P 90’s as well as other vintage Strats and Teles and know what? This Epiphone worn Gold Trad Pro iV is simply the best purchase I’ve made in many many years, It’s got that thing! Spend a bit of time setting it up ,pickup height adjustment, fret polish and cleanup and that’s it! Also I cannot tell the difference between the Indian Laurel fretboard and the actual rosewood in my 60 , and also it resonates as well as my 60 and maybe better than the rest, thin finish, open pore body and neck does make a difference and I don’t care who would differ! Just buy one!
So very true! It really is a fantastic instrument! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
I’ve the pro iii version and i love it. I was completely astonished by the quality and price. Just liberal use of blue loctite on the threaded parts
It really is an amazing guitar! Cheers
I collect epiphones. I am very pleased wityh my pro 4, I have the blue worn finish....399$
I'm so impressed with mine . And I wouldn't even think of using an Epiphone live or recording with it this one the I have is a gem. Its almost better than my 92 Gibson Les Paul standard
I’m with you, incredible guitar for the money! Outstanding
@@DerekPaulGuitar I almost bought the classic one new... First goldtop. But I'm glad I said let's take a ride to the other guitar center about 20min away.. and bam... There this one was used. The classic is close to the traditional pro IV. Classic had a lil bigger neck. And this one just was so much smoother to play than the new one . So. She definitely is a keeper. Thanks for your input and commenting back friend.... Enjoy .
No worries man! There’s just something great about it, all the great hardware on it, the pickups, tuning stability, I do t know how they did it for the money, stay well my friend
The les paul became my favorite ... i have the trad pro of the first batch its the same one as dave murries les paul trad 2010 that he has been playing recently exept mine is an epiphone but u google daves les paul trad to see what the epiphone trad pros are basesd on
I own an Epiphone worn purple. Man does she play as pretty as she looks too!
Thanks for watching! They are Great guitars!
Ever since I've bought my Epi Casino worn ebony, I'm gradually selling all my other, drenched in plastic PU finished guitars. I just couldn't seem to like them anymore... I don't really need a heavy LP style guitar, but this one does look very tempting. I really hope more manufacturers pick up on this finish, I really love it. The neck does shine up rather soon, which is a pity.
There are some guitars that i just can't bond with as they are too glossy so i get it, loving the worn gold finish on this one and my SG Epi VE.
I love this road worn model, actually called worn gold, I had a chance to buy a new one at a local music store a couple years ago, it had a beautiful wood grain, store closed down. I have a beautiful Agile LP goldtop with P90's & a white one with humbuckers, nice guitars. Im looking for a gold road worn Epi. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
@@DerekPaulGuitar my pleasure, enjoy your worn gold Epi, its an awesome guitar. Cheers!
Thanks! Enjoy your beautiful guitar too! 👍
Good video. While I’m not an Epiphone guy (mainly Gibson, and Fender US), the new Epiphones really are a great value. Gibson has no worries, but that does not takeaway from the great instruments Epiphone as put out. I would really recommend the 2020-2021 Inspired by Gibson Epiphone Les Paul custom in silver burst or the 59 reissue. I think you would really enjoy those two.
Thanks for the comment, it's my first real entry point into Les Pauls but i can see it becoming an addiction! cheers
@@DerekPaulGuitar you have no idea…..lol!
@@DCUSMC95 oh no… I’ll prepare myself lol
I started watching your video and heard your wife and 3 seconds later mine scream to me saying " thats right your lucky you get this one". Great video. I enjoyed my guitar too.
Haha thanks! I’m enjoying the guitar still!!
Just ordered one just like it! I've been buying Epiphone for 20+ years. Hard to beat at any price point. This latest incarnation of the LP is probably the best IMO. Usually the only thing they need is better pickups and a little work on the nut.
Nice! Very hard to beat as you say, great all round guitar!
and frets
I played my friend's traditional 2 like 10 years ago I dunno how he got it,I think in a cheap trade. He didn't even play. But I loved that thing. When I set it up n tinkered and tuned it and he saw how much I loved it, he definitely was like "let me see that thing" and I wanted to buy it off him but he was convinced it was like a real deal Gibson, proper multi thousand dollar guitar which I told him it was not. But I'm finally pulling the trigger. Really torn on going with the gold or the Pacific blue. I also really want the worn series in that purple burst, but I don't wanna pay 50$ more for the purple seeing as the traditional uses full sized pots, and the worn standard doesn't.
For me it’s an amazing guitar, to be honest I’ve never felt the need for a Gibson when epiphone are making guitars this good!! Cheers for the comment!
Those split coils gives the guitar that all important versatility. Making it doubly worth it to someone that doesn't have the luxury of having multiple guitars
Good cheap strat copy dont cost much.
I stopped in at my local Guitar Center today on a whim and saw a used Pacific Blue version in absolutely immaculate condition for $349. They're $499 on GC's website. I'm doing metal gymnastics to figure out how justify the purchase. BIG props for giving Paul Stafford Cook a shoutout. I'll definitely check out his channel.
I did the same thing! Had to justify it but had to buy it! Glad your checking Paul out, he has an amazing channel!
Bought the full electronics a fellow had pulled out of his 2021TP IV. 2 Alnico Classic Pros, neck is 7.5K, bridge is 7.7K
Changed the magnets to alnico 2, swapped them and the coil split/phase reverse harness into a ES335 copy with a one wire Varitone. Might be just a few too many sounds available, lol, but it's a super fun instrument. The pickups are wonderful with the lower output and A2 magnets in the semi-hollow.
I'm generally not a fan of modern tone control wiring, definitely not a fan of linear taper volume controls, and treble bleeds mess up my volume control clean up with old school fuzz, but I'm adjusting!!
They should be probuckers , that's what's in mine.
Probuckers have alnico 2 already.
I have the same model and color, 2014. Wonderful guitar.
I’m really enjoying it!
I’m going to get the wine red one
It’s on discount for $399
@@jimp2138 That's what i paid, absolute bargain!
Yep it's a beauty, cts pots, grover tuners
Great sounds you make !!! What amp did you use for this ? 🙏🙂
Thank you! It was a fender Hot rod 4
The new Epiphone guitars are much better than years past however, I would prefer a Wolf guitar or Latitude. For a bit less money they have much better attention to detail. Not to mention their fretwork.
I have a Latitude guitar, superb quality for the money, and the fretwork is excellent, cheers for the comment (and i think you are also in Chicago?)
"Your definitely not buying a Gibson" I have to say I actually laughed out loud when I heard that because that sounded like my Wife.
I’d have to sneak it past her! … I think it could be done though ;)
sweet one brother!
i have a epi LP classic in worn ebony and love it!
not sure what is diff between this model and the classic model other than 100bux diffrence in price...my classic was 449USD and this one is 549USD...
Man they are sweet guitars! I’d get another one for sure!
@@DerekPaulGuitar i ended up with the golden epiphone sg model...traditional pro model...
i didnt have an sg but now i do!
popped the lil E string already but as we all know factory strings are rubbish for the most part lol!
Yeah factory strings are not great for the most part, oh nice!!! I do like the look of the tobacco burst, one day!
@@DerekPaulGuitar sweeet!
i like the honeyburst as well...LP model lol!
looks like the peter green model in many ways!
Yeah it does! Those old colours and models are just something else!
I just got a muse...It looks very nice but....Epiphone still fail at the single most important thing. Seating the frets completely and dressing them.
Hey I own this guitar actually!
Any recommendations on a new set of tuners for them
Hey, Mine came with Grover tuners, i don’t feel the need to replace them
Was the nut cut deep enough. Did you have trouble turning it?
It was cut fine on my one, no tuning issues at all
So do you feel like the split coil pickup buzz is a guitar issue, or a cable/amp issue, or..? Like, is there a way to fix that?
Thanks for the comment, it’s a my house issue, I have a 60 cycle hum that comes and goes, the guitar in split coil mode is fine :)
I love mine it's pacific blue 💙💙💙 gonna throw in some bare knuckle pickups 10/10
Nice!! I’ve heard good things about the Bare Knuckle pickups!
I'm trying to decide between the Traditional Pro IV and the Modern. Any thoughts?
I haven’t tried the modern, but the pro IV is superb
Modern has phase switching I believe and the pro 4 doesn't.
I didn’t know that they still made these
They are still going strong!
Set-up from factory was shite, after lots of adjustments nice guitar.
Sorry if this is a dumb question (I'm new to the scene of guitars) but, what is the difference between this guitar and the Les Paul Classic Heritage?
No question is a dumb question :) it's really going to depend on what you want from the guitar, do you want Gibson on the headstock? the spec is slightly different as is the price (the gibson is 5 x the cost), my recommendation would be to try both out at a guitar store to see what fits you best, cheers!
@@DerekPaulGuitar Oh sorry, I should have been clearer the Les Paul I am talking about is the Epiphone Classic Heritage. I was wondering as they seem very similar and are close prices.
@@freakazoidshhhhhhhh Ah gotcha! in that case just the pickups, looks and phase switching are different, i would imagine they play as well as each other and if i were buying one or the other and i was starting out i'd just go on the looks of it as they are roughly the same, hope it helps!
@@DerekPaulGuitar Ah ok I see thank you. Sorry it's just I'm planning on getting the Classic and I saw the Traditional on the website and I didn't know what to go on but if you say to go on looks then this definitely helps me decide on what guitar to buy. Thank you for the help I really appreciate it!
No problem at all :) enjoy that new guitar!
Thank you for the video. We all know about the opinion thing. But it might be me and I do like these, but they just don’t have the “sound quality or resonance” of a real Les Paul guitar. The other thing I have noticed is that when they make an endorsed copy of an Artists guitar type, they are not what they play nor do they even sound like what play. Jerry Cantrell doesn’t even play that wine color one, and the others are playing actual Gibsons. Can’t imagine why. Sound is everything and these are affordable indeed but they just don’t hit the mark sound wise overall. But nice nonetheless
Where did you buy it, Derek? Can’t seem to find them anywhere
I got it here, price went up a bit though www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/epiphone-les-paul-traditional-pro-iv-limited-edition-electric-guitar/l79036000001000

The fretboard is made of Laurel
@@DerekPaulGuitar thanks for getting back.
@@benallmark9671 no worries Ben!
As much as you love your guitar (it does sound great); do yourself a favor, and get a Gibson Les Paul Traditional II. They come with your choice of a 50s or 60s neck, and are truly remarkable guitars, in every way. I suggest a 2014 model, as the 1st year run (2012) had issues with the push/push pots failing. Gibson got that sorted out by late 2013-2014. I have a 50s 2014 Trad Pro II, and that guitar has the magic. They came from the factory strung with hybrid .09-46 strings. I have always played .10-46, but my Trad Pro II with the hybrid strings, just plays like a dream. These were a special run for Guitar Center, but Anderton’s and Thomann got some overrun; so you should be able to find one in the UK.
Thanks for the suggestion, funds are low at the moment but good tip!
Just got in wine red, not bad for the $399 sale price
I’m over the moon with it! Great guitar, cheers for the comment
Only negative was they sent me a demoed FLOOR model , but I did get $100 in site credit at guitar center

That seems like a lotta guitar for the money
It really is!
I had a Epi lp custom pro and wish it was never pawned. Then, I got a Gibson studio and eh. Played a Epi LP PRO V1 one today and let’s just say, the Gibson is being traded in before Christmas. Gibson’s are truly overrated
Okay so I just scanned the video to 3:10 and instantly heard amp buzz. That's a no from me.

Thanks for the tip man!! Really appreciate that! I’ll look into it
those pickups are noisy and sound like crap - i have a trad pro iv and shioelded cavities and installed probuckers- sounds 100X better
@@bikeman1x11 was thinking of upgrading the humbuckers for mine, just got it this week. Which ones did you end up getting?
sounds muddy as usual. I never see anyone in any demos run the gammit on the tone pot ( 1 through 10 ) without gain, full volume on the guitar, totally clean. They play with no indication of the pot settings and/or with wacked out gain which tells the inquisitive listener nothing. I look for articulation, clarity foremost. You can do what you want with the sound from there but a guitar must have a clear, clean tone to start with. I can't recall it ever demonstrated properly in a demo on any guitar.
Well you are right and point taken, i should roll the volume back to demonstrate it, i'll do that in future, thanks for the feedback
Hey Karen Les Pauls are meant to be played dirty, you want a clean tone go get a Strat.
😴
I was burned with one of these, wore out the first three frets in less than 2 years, i wouldnt recommend these if you paid me.
I absolutely hate the woodgrain showing through metallic paint. Just likes they were too cheap pay for grain filler for this model. It makes it look cheap, not vintage. Just my opinion though.
only gibson good enough))
