    I've been seeing Facebook posts in pencil groups that say they're working on drafting film and I had to check it out to see what they meant by drafting film (and if it was tracing paper.) Your video was the top result and you answered that question really quick, so I got my answer and stayed to watch the rest! Lovely work on that dog. I'll definitely have to get some proper drafting film and try this sometime!

    This was so helpful! I just bought my first pad of drafting film. When you mentioned double matte I panicked and ran off to check what I bought 😂
    Luckily it was the right type 😀

      Yay! Glad to be of help but this video is so old now! I am just about to redo it with more info. I cannot believe you have not tried the film yet. And, I discovered a little secret just last week from Grafix about using the non matte version...Stay posted ;)

    Wow I’m so glad I found this video! This brings me back to my childhood days, drawing on scraps of drafting film my father had for his business as a surveyor. I loved how markers and pencil go on this paper. I need to get some of this asap!

    That dog is gorgeous! Ive done one drawing on drafting film, it was buttons for the colored pencil magazine monthly challenge, but I wouldn’t have thought to draw an animal on it. This turned out so well, I think I will give it a try

    • @jeaner2966
      @jeaner2966 Před 4 lety +1

      The kind I have is archival. The cover states that it is anti-static material with high dimensional stability. Will not discolor with age and has the archival characteristics that professionals demand.

    I have some drafting film left over from when I worked as a production artist for a ad agency in the late 80's early 90's. I used it all of the time to ink maps, elevations and floor plans with my Rapidograph ink pens. That was fun! Back then it was made by Seth Cole and was called Dura-Lene. I am sure today's Dura-lar is the same thing. You need to make sure you don't touch the surface too much because the oils from your hands gets on the surface. I used to clean mine before I inked with a solvent called Bestine other wise the ink would puddle on the surface when it hit the hand oils. Yeah, I am old!

    • @AnimalArtbyLAW
      @AnimalArtbyLAW  Před 4 lety

      That is amazing to read Jean. I often think about the original use of the paper & how many years it was utilised for that purpose before artists of a different kind picked up on it. Thank you so much for the tip regarding the cleaning. I am super careful when handling mine but if it is ok with you for me to share that nugget of information I would love to pass on the cleaning tip to my students. I bought a huge A0 sized lightbox/drafting table from a former cartographer & would love to know what that drawing board had witnessed over the years!

      @@AnimalArtbyLAW Lisa you go right ahead and share the cleaning tip with your students. I am happy to add something that may help someone. I feel like I am always taking from you I am happy to add something for once. Bestine is still made and can be found in most art stores. It is a clear solvent used to thin/remove rubber cement.

    • @AnimalArtbyLAW
      @AnimalArtbyLAW  Před 4 lety

      Hi Jo, as long as it is smooth so that when you are working the pencils dont pick up the texture then anything is fine to use. Something that isnt too hard is best if you are using a thinner film.

      Am I to understand that we should use a backing paper under the picture when we frame it? What type is used? Is it mount board!

    • @AnimalArtbyLAW
      @AnimalArtbyLAW  Před 4 lety

      @@sarasotalady it is entirely up to you & your framer. As long as it is smooth preferably so that the film sits flat on it. Mount board, smooth paper...it is more the colour that matters than the weight

    Watching the artist constantly waving her purple nails in front of rhe art piece and materials is BEYOND annoying. And her constant flippjng through the different sheets really made me want to close the video.
    Just some feedback I thought I’d share based on my experience.
    I do appreciate the information!

      What would you recommend the artist do in future videos? Just out of interest. Remove herself from them? I think it's best not to watch mine if they annoy you so much that you need to be so negative and rude.

      I don’t have an issue with your hands as I’m concentrating on the paper and what you are saying. Thankfully you don’t have tattoos all over your hands (as some artists do)….. now that’s distracting! Thank you for this video as I’ve just started using drafting film.
