    This Movie was filmed in Austin, Texas but it's about what was going on in Huntsville, Texas at Huntsville High School. I was a student at nearby Sam Houston State University from 1975 to 1979 and pretty much witnessed most everything in this film. I used to hang out at the Emporium and play Foosball. I also frequented the Sound Machine and the Jolly Fox. The parties out in the woods were called Fire Tower parties back then because of the big Fire Tower there in the National Forest where the parties happened at . Lots of kegs of beer, college girls and high school girls. We used to go to tons of concerts in Houston at the Summit mainly. There was no internet so we had to drive down to the big mall in North Houston to a Tickemaster outlet to get tickets...it's in the movie..lol. After watching the film....I thought......man I lived that movie....alright, alright, alright........l)

    The cars were considered "extras" so other than a few key vehicles, they used local car enthusiasts' vehicles to fill parking lots, create "traffic", provide parked cars etc. Many of the cars are used as extras repeatedly. You'll notice this if you pay attention. This was a very low budget movie. They spent most of their money on the soundtrack.

      @@georgehollingsworth2428 Just as long as you didn't get busted for weed or something lol. Hell I'm 29 and nearly got put on probation at 17 just for possession. It's now legal in my state. My oldest brother wasn't so lucky and had to go to court in 2001, he was 18. I got let off easy but strictly yelled at by the biggest anti-drug cop in town because I wasn't known to be a stoner or anything, I was fresh.
      My friend and I nearly teared up as he let us go, we saw the end of our lives before our eyes. There was a bong packed in the bag seat covered poorly by worksheets that he didn't notice somehow, and must've had a cold because smoke was pouring out of the car right into his dumbass face. So he didn't think we were stoned at the time, but we kept pulling up into this little parking lot near someone's house because we thought "oh, that's the same car I drive, that'll make it less suspicious" and then we got called on, they saw us getting high once the leaves came off during the winter.
      I wouldn't say the reckless lifestyle portrayed in this film is entirely outdated. My teen years were full of breaking windows, peeing through peoples door mail slots, shoplifting and just general reckless behavior. It was awesome! lol. I feel a little sorry for the people who'd wake up to pee in their front doorway though... Oh, can't forget about filling condoms with mustard and blowing them up on peoples cars, ruining their paint (only did this to some shitty people). But then sometimes we'd spit in a condom and leave it on someones front door to make them think it was used, we were like 15, but felt like we could do anything.

    0:26, that's probably the nicest high school parking lot ever. Funny how they couldn't find a whole lot of actual 70s cars to use as background vehicles and instead favored a lot of 50s and 60s cars. I see a couple of '57-'58 Plymouth Furys, '59 Ford Fairlane sedan, '66 Ford Mustang Convertible, '57 Chevy 3100, '62 Plymouth Belvedere, and a '67 Chevy Camaro when the camera pans all the way as they pull up. I understand not everyone back then drove a brand new or fairly new vehicle, especially high-schoolers. A lot drove 10-20 year old vehicles since they were dirt cheap back then and is what they can afford.

    • @georgehollingsworth2428

      Cars from the 50s and 1960s were dirt cheap. I was in the class of 1977 (same as Seniors in Dazed and Confused) and I drove a 1967 MGB Convertible with dual carbs. I paid 900 Dollars for it. My brother drove a 1968 or 1969 Mercury Montego muscle car which he paid a similar amount for. My best friend bought a late 1950s car with large fins in the back.. But I strongly encourage people to buy their dream car, gearheads or not, practical car or not. Because if there is one thing humans do every single day is drive (maybe not in the city) but if you are gona get in a car every day, you might as well love every second of it, with a car that you love and look forward to drive every damn day.

    Don't get me wrong - I love this movie and I love the cars. But, that said, I wonder how many High School kids in 1976 were cruising around in fairly new muscle cars like this? I went to High School in the mid-80's and these were the types of cars that were often seen in our parking lot because by the mid-80's they were old enough to be affordable for High School kids but yet not rare-(ish) classics we couldn't hope to afford or maintain. But did many kids in '76 really own cars that were only 6 years old, or newer? I could see Wooderson's Chevelle because he was a working man who probably spent all he had on his car - but some of the others seem like a stretch. My dad owned a '70 Dodge Charger R/T in the early 70's but he was almost middle aged and employed as an engineer by that time. Seems like some of the cars shown in the movie were more the product of wishful thinking than actual memories of the writer. The freshmen and their '64 Electra seems more like the cars kids would actually have in 1976.

    • @arkwill14
      @arkwill14 Před 2 lety +1

      Example: O'Bannion's '73 Duster. That car would have been less than 3-years old when this movie was set. I guess he _really_ didn't like the factory paint job which should have still been in pretty good condition in 1976.
