    Adam - fantastic vlog. Your idea of creating a location guide is one of the best ideas I've heard all year. Having photos, maps, parking guides and GPS coordinates are all invaluable resources for photographers who want to find places rich with photographic opportunities. I live in America, but armed with such a comprehensive guide, I would readily plan a photographic trip to the Lake District. Thanks as always for what you do, you are an inspiration to me as a photographer, as I'm confident you are to all of your subscribers.

    Hiya, on the stone circle image Lens tilt would help control depth of field, look up Scheinpflug if you don't already know of it. In my pro days I used it a lot when shooting architecture. What tilt does is change the angle of the plane of focus.

    I recently bought this lens and it's awesome, I haven't tried panorama pictures yet, still practicing with tilt function to get everything in focus and it works perfectly. The sharpest lens I've ever owned, it's worth it the cost.

    As mentioned above - let´s make a video about stretching the DOF with the tilt-function of the lens. In my opinion - this is a much more interesting feature ! You can shoot @F11 without risking to get diffraction limitations and you can achieve DOF of like F32 !!!

    You can save heaps buying used TS-E lenses used on eBay.
    You may get vignetting at the extremities, particularly if you use filters. Watch the Sonder Creative video on the LCC for automatically correcting this and other problems.
    I have a TS-E 17. It doesn't take standard filters, Lee has a solution, but it is expensive.
    For many purposes you can create coplanar images 36x48 or 60x24mm. To my mind that compares well with medium format cameras.

    I like the idea about GPS etc... I would love to visit the Lake District but it seems such a large area and time there will be precious as I live down South. Equally I don't want to spend forever hiking around the place, so its always good to know where places are, nearest car park etc.... Merry Christmas!

    Fabulous light there. I recommend the V2 of this 24mm TS-E lens. I also owned the V1 but it was compromised by significant softness and chromatic aberration. However Canon improved the V2 to eliminate those problems. It is surprisingly sharp and fabulously useful for landscapes and built up areas which is where is really excels. It comes with a lens hood but it's useless so just leave it at home and use your hand when necessary. The tilt function I use less often because identifying focus planes in camera is actually very difficult. But it can be used to increase the apparent depth of field when shooting subjects close to the camera while trying to maintain a deep focal plane depth.

    • @Firstmanphotography
      @Firstmanphotography  Před 6 lety

      I agree. It was the mark ii I used in this shoot. The tilt function is decent for product photography when you want to maintain a blurred background for items that are not level with the usual focal plane.

      just a thought on the guides - a quick amazon search finds two well reviewed photography guide series books. Good demonstration of the shift feature, but why didn't you combine that with tilt? In a couple of the shots you noted that you used f16 to maximize depth of field. Wouldn't tilting have helped there? Maybe you cannot do both at the same time on the lens. Is that the case?

    • @len.whistler

      With that lens both tilt and shift can be done at the same time. I think the first version of this lens you could not.

    Would appreciate a demonstration of the final image difference between blending a total of 5 images shot over the range of the shift lens versus doing the same with just one far left image and one far right. Since the camera remains unmoved in both techniques, how much perspective distortion would there be here. (Really like that first image!)

    Great video, thanks for posting. I have one question about your landscape pano images. I think I noticed you are shooting them in landscape orientation? I'm curious how this works out using the TS with the 5 separate images you mention taking. Unless I'm missing something, unlike using a ball head, with a tilt shift your total width is going to be the same, whether or not you shoot 5 shots, or two shots, or three, for example. In other words, no matter how much overlapping it seems the end width is going to be the same. So, do you notice, for example, that taking 5 instead of say, 3 - makes any difference in resolution, pixels, etc.? I do understand that when you put your camera in portrait orientation, it's different because you can't get the same side to side distance without shifting the lens left to right. However, it seems that in landscape mode it's going to come out the same. Hope this question makes some sense. Thanks again.
