I would recommend that you use white acid-free paper instead construction paper. The dye and acid in the construction paper can damage the clothes.

I keep my doll clothes in resealable snack bags- the half size is perfect for holding one item. It allows me to keep them individual- no worries over velcro snags etc.. and they are easy to flip through. The bags are sorted into drawers by doll type/ clothing type/ etc. Bigger items just get bigger ziplocks.

I used to store my clothes in individual little bags to protect them and then just had them in shoebox size bins separated by brand (monster high, EAH, rainbow high, omg, ect) The bags are pretty much no longer there except for a few with complete outfits i want to keep together. Now i still use the shoebox bins as it is easy to sift through or dump out and look through and put back. My doll shoes are stored in those dollar store bead or craft boxes and they work great to keep them in pairs. Good luck in your search for the best doll clothes organizer! Also I love your kitty, she is trying to be so helpful 🌸🐾🐱💞

I started using binders too - I like the fact that I can flip through like a catalogue and pick out what I want. My clothes want to slide out too but I just used a piece of washi tape to secure the opening - it seems fine for now - haha but I only have 3 binders. I have a lot hung up in the closets I have for the dolls. I just started a project of photographing each piece - with the idea that I’ll make an actual catalogue of inventory and then store in plastic pull out drawers. 😂 We’ll see how that goes. You made great progress in this video. Thanks for the inspiration. ❤

This is an ingenious way to store doll clothes! An alternative for the thicker coats and other pieces could be a storage bin with drawers, I found them in the Container Store. Each one has four drawers with small plastic pieces that allow you to customize each drawer so you can store different small items. Also the helper is adorable trying to grab the tools with their paws. 🥰

Great video! I need to file more too. Hoping this helps motivate me. I use sandwich bags of varying sizes (because you can see inside and label them) for extra stuff that doesn't need or have enough in the category to warrant a whole binder (example: Ken Clothes.) I use the largest binder pocket size for dresses and the card stock method. 4 small dresses or 2 long. Special dresses get their own pocket. My 2 Rainbow High Closets and racks with hangers are for special/bulky clothing such as coats or thicker pieces. Maybe you could use your Barbie cases. Also, when I store "bulk" in bags, I'm always making sure the Velcro is completely closed and watch out for clothes that bleed or shed.

Applause! Thanks for sharing. Your kitty gave me a good laugh. Popping up and wandering over your doll clothes as if to say, "What does she see in these things? She has me!"
I enjoyed recognizing pieces like a Halloween Barbie's long black denim skirt or that red-white striped tank, etc. Such fun.
Mostly, I use different plastic containers. A plastic shoe box holds most of my female denim pieces. A few sturdy doll boxes have been re-purposed to house accessories and small dolls. I tried binders years ago, but I didn't maintain the system. Maybe I'll give it a try. I admire how fashions look in binders.

I store my doll clothes in small baggies-each outfit- and then in larger gallon size bags. Dresses in one, short sets, skirts sets, top etc. Coats and jackets can go in a gallon bag easily. Then I can label the larger bags with what they are and keep several bags in a larger tote. When I want a certain type of clothes I can just pop out that bag say dresses for example, pour out of look through the smaller baggies and choose what I want. I do the larger or longer fancy dresses by color. All the Reds together etc . I don't indiv bag each of those I just keep like colors all in one larger gallon bag. When I take an outfit out of a bag to use I can either just leave the little bag in the top of the larger bag so when I go to put up the outfit it's there or I can keep a small basket out and place all empty bags there so that when I got to put clothes up I can just grab a bag, place the item in it and stick it back in the larger bag. This can be as simple or as detailed as you want. Ind outfits baggies can be labeled with the item number and year ect or not. The larger bags can be separated by type of clothes- skirt, tops or by complete outfits such as skirt sets, pant sets etc. They could also be separated by use such as beach clothes, winter clothes etc. It just depends on what each person wants.

I do something super similar too! I have a tote for all 1/6 clothes, for example. In it, there are large clear bags that each contain a type of clothes (like Barbie tops, Ken + military figures pants, Jem outfits, etc.). Those large bags are filled with smaller bags that create subdivisions (long-sleeved shirts, tank tops, white shirts, etc.). I personally like to keep white clothes together to prevent other colors from staining them. I do the same for black ones, but that's just because of how I like to create outfits: I know I'll often want to pair something else with a black top or bottom, so I keep these in their own categories. I also prefer to separate full outfits so I can easily see their pieces and be inspired to mix and match them with other items.
I would never be able to upkeep the binder system! Placing things in baggies feels easier for me. When I don't have the energy, I just put the pieces loose in the appropriate bigger bag and sort them into the smaller bags the next time I rummage through my doll clothes. Admittedly, I prefer the look of the binder system: it's so neat & tidy! It just seems impractical to me. It also takes more space and I already don't have much.

I haven’t even started the video yet but thank you so much for saying the binder system doesn’t work for everyone. Everyone always tells me to do the binders so I tried it, I bought about 10 large binders and tons of the inserts to store the clothes in, I spent almost $500 and it wasn’t enough to store all of my doll clothes, not even half of my collection. The binders also got super heavy, were not easy to store at all because they couldn’t close properly, and I had to flip through pages and pages to find the thing I wanted. Not to mention, it also doesn’t fit bulky accessories like hard plastic hats, big chunky shoes, and purses. And it sucks for really tiny accessories too like jewelry. Everytime I look for a new storage solution everyone just recommends the binders and I’m sure it works great for some people but def not for everyone…

    • @kadawalden
      @kadawalden  Před 4 měsíci +1

I'm so glad you understand! I suspect it probably works great for folks with a smaller collection of doll clothes. But for tons of clothes, it's just not practical - or, if you're like me, not sustainable.

    • @samwright7351
      @samwright7351 Před 4 měsíci

@@kadawalden my current method of storing doll clothes (which I still don’t totally love) is I use 10-drawer filing cabinets. They don’t take up a ton of space cause it’s mostly vertical space but it’s not great because they’re not really portable at all. But the categories I use to sort my clothes are: 1- winter coats/ outerwear
      2- purses and hats
      3- Barbie tops (tanks/ t-shirts/ blouses/ ect.)
      4- Barbie bottoms (skirts/ pants/shorts)
      5- Ken tops
      6- Ken bottoms
7- pink dresses (Barbie has a ton of pink dresses)
      8- red/yellow/orange dresses
      9- green and blue dresses
      10- purple and indigo dresses
11- black, brown, gray, white, silver, and gold dresses
12- dresses that are too multicolored to fit into the other categories
13- jewelry (I have smaller organizers inside the drawer)
      14- hair accessories
      15- stockings, socks, tights
      16- swimsuits and lingerie
17- Halloween costumes and ball gowns
18- Christmas and other holiday clothing
      19- pajamas
20- scarves, glasses, ties, other random accessories.
THEN because even that wasn’t enough I have a box full of stock outfits or just whole outfits I want to keep together. And then I also have all of their shoes in one of those nuts and bolts organizer things from hardware stores, it’s like a bunch of little drawers. I have their shoes organized by color as well.
With the amount of doll clothes I have it’s really impossible for me to have each piece displayed so unfortunately I do have to go digging through the drawers everytime I want to dress my dolls, but It is nice because whenever I get new clothes I can just toss them into the drawers and I don’t have to flip through for an empty page and fiddle them into binder pockets. The drawers are also good for a growing collection because as a drawer gets too full I can then break it down into smaller categories.
I dont really know what a better way to store a large amount of doll clothes would be but I’m just really glad to see that I’m not the only one who struggles with the binder method.

I have a plan of getting amount X of clear, thin (maybe 10cm)& stackable containers where I´ll store the clothes. There is a particular brand I have in mind that has a good variety + with inner parts for smaller items.
I think I would loose my mind with clothes sliding out of their place, it would a horrible little pet peeve truly. Also knowing myself I would not like having to sort every cloth separately. It doesn´t seem worth the effort. I like being organized but I also like to be as efficient about it as possible.

Fun vid as usual 👍! I agree I don't think binders would work for me either & I thought of doing that years ago when I 1st saw myfroggystuff doing it but it seemed like a lot of work 😆 What works for me is definitely the lazy way out, so right now I have 13 small clear bins with clip lids where I keep all the clothes in categories like skirts, pants, Holidays etc. I do have a video from February 2023 showing how I store them 😄 Before that I had all the clothes mixed in together & that made it hard to find things 👎 I would love to come up with an easier system but so far I've got nothing 🤓

I like the idea of the binder system, but I don't think I'd be able to keep up with it in practice. I keep my clothes categorized and stacked in shoe boxes. Keeping a catalog of photos also makes it easier to not have to always sort through everything. Then I can pull out a stack and go through it, and when I'm too lazy it's easy to just toss stuff onto their stack and it's basically good that way.

Barbination here on CZcams uses a cute white dresser for all his accessories and doll clothing then has bins to separate & organize them. But not everyone has room for an extra dresser in their doll room. Then it may be still hard to find the clothing too but still at cute idea ❤

I don't like the binder method either. It's pretty to look at but too time consuming for me. I'd rather have a box where I have clothes separated in types of clothing in little plastic bags (the freezer types for example)

I tried this but got annoyed with how easily they'd pop out of the slots and I never kept up with filing either. I have mine mostly in big ziplock bags by decade with some certain "significant" outfits in their own bags within there. it's not perfect but I don't switch my dolls' outfits super often and tend to put dolls in outfits from their own era so it works for me! especially since I love researching the clothes/dolls 😊

Already it’s not ideal because I can’t readily see what I have and am forgetting some things. I may try this method.
