There is only one way to listen to this. LOUD. This song....was HUGE. It was everywhere. Love, love, LOVE this song.
Remember the movie THE PERFECT WEAPON?😏😊🥋
That breakdown in the song is my ringtone, and when it rings around strangers ,they always smile.
Because they all KNOW!!!!@@JohnSmith-qj6bj
I went nuts when this came out 61 now I’m still listening this
I feel like this is one of the handful or so of songs that kicked off the '90s. It was basically shutting the door on the '80s and kicking off a new era in music, and you could just feel the change happening.
summer 1990. you could not escape this song. that would've been i like trying to get away from water. . .in the ocean. huge hit. i can't help but hear Will Smith in mind singing this on Fresh Prince of Bel Air. great times.
Huge club tune here in the UK, love this one 👍
I was in middle school when this was released . Memories
The woman in this video is just miming. The actual "I've got the power" vocal is sampled from Jocelyn Brown's 'Love's Gonna Get You.'
This was huge in Europe as well likewise "Do You See The Light", "Mary Had A Little Boy" and others.
I'd never hear dance/hip hop this heavy before. The first time I heard it I couldn't believe my ears. Pure genuis
Monster hit. My kids were wild over it.
This was a huge club hit in the 90’s. My best friend and I would dance like crazy to this. She used to make me laugh 😂 because whenever the song would come on she would say,” I’ve got the power, so take a shower!” Great 👍 reaction. 😎🙌🎵-Patty
Dancefloor burned up with this one. Thanks for sharing it.
I had The Chill Rob G version on cassette. But I liked this version better. This played all 1990 nonstop🔂🔂🔂🔂🔂🔂🔂🔂🔂🔂🔂🔂🔂🔂
I'm fb with Penny Ford .I met her when I was doing my internship with Chaka Khan record label and she was Chaka background singer. This song was first offered to Chaka and she wanted no parts of it and told Penny to do it and the rest is history
interesting. i allways like this little backround informations.
Huge Club or house party music!
OMG...soooo much sweatin'! I used to hate when the DJ would loop this song for 15-20 minutes.😂😂😂
I heard that. We had a lot energy back then and did a lot of exercise back in the day. 😎🙌🎵I still remember my dance moves but I would probably tire out after a half an hour if I tried it again. I’m so out of shape now. I do a lot of couch dancing though in my living room with my phone now. Lol 😂 -Patty
This was also a huge hit in Canada. I STILL play this when I wanna a lil power boost! Definitely a classic.
This is another great song. You gotta have some good speakers to listen to this. This is a classic
This group was produced in Germany, and is considered part of the Eurodance genre that was big in late 80s/early 90s. The woman you see in this video is not the original singer. Penny Ford, the original singer, one day woke up to find out the song was blowing up on the charts and another girl was placed in the music video lip syncing to her part. She was later integrated into the group after she escalated the matter.
This track was made off of Chill Rob G's version of 'The Power' with lyrics from 'Let The Words Flow'. It's a complicated story but Chill Rob G made the original version but the people who produced the track had this dude, who has a similar sounding voice, come in and put his rap on it and released it at the same time. Actually, you can still hear Chill Rob G say, "It's gettin' kinda hectic" at 3:55. This version blew up, Chill Rob G's didn't. He didn't even get paid from this shit. Foul situation. 👎🏽
Chill Rob G (on Wild Pitch Records) was seriously slept on...Positive message with a little street flavor and a voice similar in strength and depth to Chuck D of Public Enemy. I strongly believe that this is one of the early times where "the industry" chose to make a "pop" version of a "destined for greatness" song in order to hide the shine and prophetic voice of a true MC.
Chill Rob never had a Version of the Power. And Chill rob did not make the Original.
Snap used His rap from let the words flow. but later he dont want that. so tehy change the rapper. then chill rob saw the song goes up like a rocket and now he wanted to be a part of it. if you look at his version on his album you will see who made that sonf..the snape producers.
he could not release the power cause it was NOT his song. so he had to make a deal with them and mention them as the real producers.
get facts before you allways talk random things.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Power_(Snap!_song)
also a sample from Jocelyn Browns song "Love's Gonna Get You" where they sampled the "I got the power" part from
This song defined a bit of me in life. It is still incredible.
This is my favorite song ever, that bass, that voice from Turbo B just kill it,today music is junk
One of my favorites from back in the day ✨✨✨🤩
Yes. School dance must play. Like Make you sweat by C & C Music Factory.
Penny Ford is criminally under rated!!!
Yes she is!!!! That's not even her in the video. That girl lip sincing is the rapper's sister. Penny Ford said that they told her that they couldn't find her for the video. But when they performed this on Showtime at the Apollo she was there. I love her voice. She did a great remake of Aretha Franklin's "Daydreaming".
@@Nonchalant_248 yes, I remember that remake! I also remember when Penny first came out as a solo artist...this was right around the time that music shifted from having talent to having a “look” smdh around the time the likes of Madonna was getting a big push....czcams.com/video/a0w4uRwn_TY/video.html
@@MizzNee796 yes I remember that song. That was my first time seeing the video though. LOL at Stoney Jackson and Todd Bridges being in the video.
I loved "oops up" and "Mary had a little boy".
Club Voodoo,Philly, summer of 1990,great memories.
This was a huge hit. At least in NYC, not sure about the rest of the country.
It was a huge hit in the states and overseas
Hit in STL back in the day also.
This was a hit all over
Philadelphia was bumpin' this one hard in 1990.
@@MightMouse2174 It is from overseas.
I loved the way this song was used at the beginning of the martial arts movie "The Perfect Weapon" with Jeff Speakman!!!
Classic 🔥🔥🔥
This was more dance focused than the other version. Check out Got to Have Your Love by Mantronix from the same era.
The woman in the video only sang backing track to the voice of Jocelyn Brown "I've got the power".
A Penny Ford was found whose voice sounded almost like Jocelyn's.
It was only the hits that followed that were sung by Penny Ford.
If you like this one, you will definely like " Ooops UP" it kind of has that same vibe.
I've always loved this, and always been blown away that this is from Germany 😵💫🤯
Nosavabor this a good one I love the 12' inch version 💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾♥️♥️♥️
Chill Rob G (on Wild Pitch Records) was seriously slept on...Positive message with a little street flavor and a voice similar in strength and depth to Chuck D of Public Enemy. Yeah I remember this back in the day .😏
Fun fact: that woman the video is not the singer...it’s Penny Ford. There was a lot of fake ness going on in videos and real singers...examples are Martha Wash and c+C music factory, Paula Abdul and who could forget Milli Vanilli?😭😭😭
the line, I've got the power, is jocelyn brown. from love's gonna get you.
@@mitchwinthrop yes it’s the line, but that’s Penny singing
What?!? Honestly I'm not too surprised at this point.
They originally wanted Chaka Khan for this but she didn’t want to do it so she sent her background singer Penny Ford and the rest is history.
Great track, thanks for your reaction!
My pleasure!
There are several versions of this . Rapper Chill Rob G has a version.
YesYesYes!!! THEEEE Jam!!!💃🏾💯❤️💥🔥
Mighty morphin power rangers the movie (1995) and Bruce Almighty are the movies that introduced me to this song.
I believe the woman's "break my heart apart" is stolen from a Chaka Khan song you reacted to recently. If so then he really is "the lyrical Jesse James" 😂
The high top fade days!
Surprisingly German (European) band back in the 90`s
First ...was Deff boyz with Swing song....afther that ...this 😁
You probably remember this song from Bruce Almighty
I'm 34 years old and this is my shit!
Happy birth day.
Super fire 🔥
IT'S MORPHIN TIME
kinda underrated but #powerFULL
Produced in Germany with an American singer from New York??
From Pittsburgh
chill rob g was better. plus the sample is jocelyn brown.
I hear you but the thing with snap is how the song is mixed and mastered. Very glossy holds up today.
@@godsson7787 I guess it's a matter of taste. many prefer the more raw sound and what's glossy and polished to you is just contrived overproduction that's cheesy and commercial to others. not trying to downplay your preference. the snap version was definitely more mainstream and thus popular, but as another song once said... I like it raw. most of all chill rob g is a better lyricist. 😀
@@mitchwinthrop i should slap myself for not realising that its mpre or less identical. But some song do sound better dirty e.g anything todd terry
Yout description of this song was on point...damn....you wasn't even born
Who was dancing to this song? I was in the first grade
Would you review "gonna make you sweat"?
Always a jammer!
Yeah Chill Rob G version is much better.
