Stop Pushing Your Tricks Down Early! Rookie Mistake #3

  • Rookie Mistake #3. Here's where it gets interesting. The first two were errors in technique at the beginning of your tricks. This mistake is extending your legs immediately after popping, and it's one I see beginners, and even experts make at times. The more aware you are, the easier it will be to limit this mistake. So, here's my video explaining the mistake, why it's detrimental and what to focus on if you're committing this one. I hope this helps.

Thanks Norman, this is great. Just reinforces how mental this is. I am definitely going to apply this mindset for my next session. I tend to want to slam it down too. Being less tense is also a goal of mine. Amazing how complex it can be. Peace!!

This is so true and relates so much to my skateboarding progression. I am still kind of stiff legged and it’s hard to relax more on the board and land tricks in a more fluid motion just waiting to sink until I touch the ground.
Working on it now more consciously and it really makes a difference to me. Thanks for the nice analysis and advice. I love the beginner mistake series. Please keep it up 🛹🤘

I actually sprained my ankle by doing this mistake a week ago trying to polish up my kickflip. I brought my foot down too early and ended up rolling it off the side of my board.
This is a really tough habit to get over. Glad it's being addressed!

I have to keep coming back t watch these videos in this series because I'm still so new, there is so much info to take in and remember. At 38 years old the impact of skating has really been hard on my knees and heels, this tip really helped with that impact a surprisingly large amount. I mean it makes perfect sense but sometimes those simple things elude us and once some one points it out, its like a light bulb goes off "Ohhh, damnnnn, how did I not realize this on my own" lol.
I've said it multiple times but thank you so much for these videos. I'm a broke ass atm but I'm strongly considering joining your patreon at your lowest tier, I have never joined any ones patreon before but there's a first time for everything and I have you to thank for most of my "first times" one my skate so I feel I need to pay it back..

  •  Před 11 měsíci +2

Great insights! What's a "cue" you can use to make yourself wait longer before extending the legs? Should you tell yourself to "keep your knees up" or something like this? When I jump straight up on the ground (without a board), this happens automatically for me, so I guess it can become a "natural thing" once you get super comfortable on your board?

I always squat down, straight back and jump up, bring my knees up to my chest and always land pretty low. As example, if I ollie up heights which are taller than my knees i noticed how I always land extremly low. My friends land straighter, still low but way straighter than me. Is this bad?
