I remember reading a revenge story for mailbox smashers some metalurgy student's grandpa's mailbox keeps getting destroyed by a jock with a promising football carier and a scholarship so what the student does is making solid mailbox with thick steel sheets and a long steel post then he puts the mailbox in the front yard with a solid contcrete base so when the jock comes again in a car and a baseball bat to smash it he hits the mailbox so hard that he destroys his shoulder and arm and instantly ending his carier and his scholarship.
Well the issue is that you have to plan the trap FIRST. A lot of these shelter-grade strength mailboxes are disguised because local law (like town law, or worse, the dreaded HOA if you have one) may have a problem with the mailbox, and if the mailbox itself is considered "illegal," then you aren't protected because the mailbox was supposed to be removed by you anyway to comply with the law. (I personally think this is fucking stupid, but so is a lot of shit in the US, so I pick my battles. But yeah, somehow the federally-protected mailboxes, that often have METAL PRINT saying they're USPS-accepted mailboxes stamped into them, can be trumped by a Karen on the HOA board saying that your mailbox looks like shit, therefore your mailbox is no longer a mailbox and must be replaced with a fuzzy pink one. 🤦♀️) But usually how people get their r/prorevenge is by submitting paperwork to their local authorities saying that they are "improving" their mailbox, which usually gets a green light (even if in an HOA, until it's in violation, I think you can still get a permit because it's a mailbox) and then adding all of the reinforcement they deem necessary (I've seen metal, I've seen concrete, I'VE SEEN STRAIGHT-UP CONCRETE-REBAR, I've seen a ton of shit that will probably let that mailbox still stand centuries from now. 😂) Then they cover it with a design like those brick mailboxes that are wider and rectangular, and because it's considered an improvement on looks, and no one has to know about all of the reinforced shit you put in it if you work fast, then you get the green light, mailbox is legal, and when dipshit comes, he has Immovable Object to meet on the way through being an Unstoppable Force of asshole. As for results... pretty damn satisfying, not gonna lie. One guy turned an asshole's truck into a tuning fork because he had enough of him SPECIFICALLY TARGETING HIS MAILBOX and running over it, while the town looked the other way even with Ring and security footage. And another guy was pissed at a specific person who ran his snowplow route (I live in NY, so snowplow routes are a thing. When the shit comes down in droves, Public Works and everyone with a plow, since they also hire locals in busy cases, will follow a route to keep their chunk of the city or highways clear) and would destroy only his street's mailboxes (his neighbors, who were good friends, got theirs destroyed, but they'd all watch as he would leave everyone else's fine, even those just a stop sign further.) So he made one, I think the Rebar one I mentioned, and it TORE THE FUCKING PLOW OFF THE CATERPILLAR. It tore the plow sideways because he drove sideways towards it, as usual, and when it hit, it took the plow, ripped it off the other side like a crowbar, and then disabled the caterpillar due the catastrophic damage. And Public Works as well as the guy who operated the caterpillar tried to sue him for the plow, to which he just shoved all of the evidence of the mailboxes being targeted year after year and the permit for the mailbox in their face and told them to eat shit.
