  • Showing examples of nighttime hair routines that promote growth (length retention) in type 4 hair. Also, tips on how to protect and nurture your edges (hairline) at night so they grow and don’t thin.
    This year I had an epiphany. I put a lot of value in the healthy hair routine of my whole head...except my hairline. Question. Why is it that in the natural hair community we speak so heavily of sealing our edges with oil over and over again, but promote water for moisture on the rest of our heads? Sure, oils are fantastic. Depending on the oil your hair can receive a ton of nourishment and healing benefits. Oil keeps the hair malleable so that the hair doesn’t break...but sometimes our edges are a little thirsty.
    Alright, I’m going to share some different ways to protect your hair and edges in this video so I can help you out!

    I made the same realization about my bonnet after my edges starting thinning. Now I sleep with a satin scarf and a satin pillowcase, and I only use bonnets that are lined with satin all around the cap AND the band.

    Definitely using a water based moisturizing spray, rose water, aloe juice, or water lol then sealing with and oil on your scalp, edges, and nape is the goat! I do this every 2-3 days to keep the scalp lubricated, and it’s definitely changed so many things! Our scalp needs way more moisture than we realize.

    • @LaToyaEbonyHair
      @LaToyaEbonyHair  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey! I’m aware of the ingredient. It’s used as a preservative. There’s been research around it, but none that can prove its harmful effects in the small quantity that it’s typically used in. It’s in a ton of products, and though I don’t think it’s “good”, I think since products typically use .5-1% it’s probably not enough to do significant damage...it’s long term effects over a period of time, I can’t speak of (and neither can scientists) but I think if it bothers you, you definitely shouldn’t use products containing it.

      It’s not fast, just average. I’ve been growing my hair for 5 years. I just try my best to keep the length I have and technically it should be longer. It’s always a work in progress. Stay tuned because I have a video on the growth cycle. ❤️

    Why do people complain about having 4c so much when you can literally just put 4 braids in your hair and walk out the house I’m convinced everyone wants to type 3. Little do they know I do the same routine on my child’s type 3 hair because children love to play and having it out is sometimes not worth it.

      Soraya, are you suggesting to wear four braids in public or overnight?

      @@sheri8048 I mean you can do both it depends on how you feel tbh. I’ve seen people walk out the house with the worse looking wigs / weaves. And that’s just normal to me at this point. Four braids isn’t bad. If you feel like it ofcourse

      @@soraya.e5482 I agree, that’s how I feel about wearing shrinkage. I have 4b with some 4a parts. And my hair shrinks about 50-70% honestly not much different then a 4c girl and yet I always hear girls raving about them not being comfortable wearing shrinkage, like it’s really not that bad 🤷🏿‍♀️

      @@Afroguitarist-ed2zt yeah I feel like it depends on how comfortable you are. Some people are really comfortable in their natural hair but most aren’t especially the kinkier textures. I feel like more people should talk about this because it’s a common thought like “ oh you can’t walk outside like that “ and maybe your hair is not perfect but I mean does it need to be if your just running errands or going to work with people you can’t stand? Idk 🤷‍♀️..
