You know, all three original Luigi's Mansion titles are quite distinguishable from one another. However, the ghosts in this game and the way you fight them with the strobulb plus the use of the dark light device to make invisible objects visible and items come out of paintings, way of catching uniquely punny named boos, and collectable jewels make the game remind me more of Dark Moon for the 3DS than the original GameCube title. On the other hand I see many element's of the GameCube title as well in this one like your freedom to explore the hotel unlike Dark Moon where you get booted out after completion of every mission, plus the ranking of the rebuilt hotel depending on the currency collected. Also the Director ghost being an ally to luigi like the fortune teller ghost in the original game is another parallel. And probably my favorite reference to the original game being the various keys based on card game symbols used to catch the mall cop ghost. Final example of a parallel between the original game and this one, ghost bosses based on humans who were most likely alive at one time return in this game as ghosts distinguished from the normal enemy units. But the normal enemy unit ghosts remind me more of Dark Moon than the first game.

Finally! The game got around to using the horror movie cliche of abandoning spatial logic. The Tomb Suites (Floor 10) are MUCH too large to fit on the single floor of a building.
