Phil and Andy converted this Box Van about a year ago and we met them in Spain just before Christmas and took the time to film their Van conversion.
The spaciousness of a box van really opens up the possibility for a more 'home like' living space and not to mention it is much easier to build in a square box than it is a panel van made entirely from curves!
They pimped the electrical system with 500W of Solar Panel and 4x 130Amp hr AGM batteries giving a total of 520Amp hrs. This is a lot and certainly means they have plenty of redundancy considering they do not have a huge amount to power in the van.
I liked the entry through the cab - it takes away some of the issues with adding a big side door and the layout complications this creates. Personally I would have just gone for a gas heater - when it is cold and miserable outside the wood tends to be wet too but a wood burner does give a nice feel to a place.
It was also interesting to see traditional building techniques - like the plaster ceiling holding up well after 11 months of driving it around mountainous climbing areas.
Despite the heavy construction materials - large oak work-tops and double thickness kitchen unit walls etc.. the end result is very nice and you can see if and when they build another next van they will remedy these relatively small issues.
I hope you enjoyed this tour, don't forget to help us out by liking and subscribing :)

I love these two guys! They are so honest and spirited. However, I'm not sure I would classify this as "luxury". They need a BATHROOM 100%!
I personally loved this build!! I love the loft bed over the garage!! Totally taking that idea!! I would skip one couch to put a bathroom tho. Good job!!
The plastic saw horses holding the table up is class!! 😂😂😂💀 They need to gut this and start over. Add bathroom. Remove broken neon light. They cared more about the wings and bits and bobs hanging to decorate than the functionality of the unit. No ladies are staying in that that’s for sure 🙅🏻♀️🙅🏻♀️🙅🏻♀️
Lol, when interior decorators try a van build.
I like how the review of the box is very genuine no bs they just tell u what works and what doesn’t and you learn from the process
Nice budget build. You learn as you go. Nothing wrong with that. Lots of beauty in here.
There is alot of hate for this build, personally I found it to be interesting and like many other people I would have done alot of things differently and used different materials.
That being said it is a clean build and for what they wanted is fit for purpose. You can have success without failure and although its more like a house on wheels it is far from a failure.
If you guys did another one I hope you have learnt your lessons and just seeing how you have done everything and seen the available space (was keen to see how you fitted the fix bed) has given me alot of do's and dont;s so thanks.
Charming, looks like a Tiny House BUT..NO EXCUSE 4 no Bathroom!
I learn a lot from “what would you have done differently” so thumbs up for asking that question.
One addition at the top of the list needs to be a gas safe enclosure. A bit surprised they thought to get a refillable gas bottle (very wise, especially for travelling) but forgot the safety part. All it needs is an air tight metal locker to put the bottle in, with either an external access door or a robust air tight interior door, and a hole on the floor of the locker leading to the outside. Especially if they plan to sell it.
Wishwader given they have a fire as heating, its a disaster waiting to happen. Leaking gas + flame = 💥
Looks like they learned a lot from this build but mostly because they had a lot to learn. I'm impressed that they actually completed the project but quite frankly I wouldn't"t trust them with a build.
they used an inverter that will probably trip out of you plug in a drip brew machine and try to make a pot of coffee lmfao
All that space, and it came out worse than most van conversions I've seen. What a waste.
I love the flamingos and the wood stove!
Me and my dad are moving to Spain and we wanted some type of car / house or hang out place . We found your videos very helpful for our van conversion so thank you so mutch for your help.❤️❤️❤️🇪🇸
If that’s Luxury, then my Luton conversion is going to be ELITE!!!
Already mine has a fully functioning wet room with hot shower, toilet , heating, gas oven & hob, 4g WIFI....
Please have it featured here when it's done!
Without WiFi my boyfriend wouldn't move further than his lan tether 😉
I am not quite minimalist and therefore would love a travel bus (as school buses aren't in public use in Germany) but Box vans could be an option.
Hope you are having as much fun as it sounds guys!
No bathroom in that huge van?
so big and tall but no room for toilet?
Right?! I have seen mini van conversions with bathrooms! XD
My thoughts exactly 😂
Thoughts? I'd say move the electrics somewhere else, shorten the kitchen and use the cupboard (with the extra length saved with a shorter kitchen) to put the shower/toilet in there?
@@Silverwidows make sense, that would be good solution.
These guys did a shit job with their space they could have built a complete loft and put a bathroom next to it
Hearing that story about the angel wings made me tear up as I gave a eulogy at my grandmothers funeral and started and ended it by ringing a huge, brass bell. I wrote a poem with the opening line "If every time a bell rings an angel gets her wings" from the movie It's a Wonderful Life. Oh yea, great conversion too and thanks for sharing! :-)
It made me cringe - each to our own
This is gives a good idea what you really need to get started with a van and most importantly travelling!
I feel like either there wasn’t enough research for design done or they did the research but didn’t know how to implement their ideas. In this case it would be hugely beneficial for people to speak with an interior designer - this is what they do and they can talk you through ideas and make it worth your while so you don’t end up with this. I see where it was supposed to go not quite there yet for me 😁❤️
I love this young fellas with an accent !
10 our of 10 for passion .
Still lot to learn!
I guess your concept is for little parties and not for a serious camp living !
You could piss and shower where you keep the batteries mate !
100% should've had a shower / wet room behind the wood burner. there's space and would've been perfect.
other than that it's the best i've seen. what was your budget? did you have problems with weight and your licence?
Oh I see the luxury...it’s the MDF cupboards. The ones that are broken right?
Thanks for sharing your work despite the errors 👍🏾
Well done mate! 🤙
I like it really feels more like an office than a travel camping off grid type deal but it's really nice looking
This was one of the best neat tidy and open windows box van ive seen.i liked it.
Waste of space, not luxury. And no grey water tank, too heavy wood to build. It looks nice, but it's not functional.
(One day in near future) the engine fell out but as u can c we drive a lot so we jus say 'wat the hec,let it stay like that'
That was funny!
Love the amount of space in it!
Your entire build is great! I love everything. Thank you for sharing
he’s a builder with a van that has a bunch of broken components?....not exactly a great resume for his work.
kris cox ...Not really. Two young blokes opening/closing doors multiple times per day....that's a lot of wear and tear.
That's what I was thinking - no way would I hire him to build anything for me.
If you follow other folks who live in a van, it's actually very common that things like that break and need to be repaired/re-built. Driving your home on all kinds of roads puts a a lots of strain on the components.
it's just a heavy door he got for free, you can watch his build on his channel
Did you not watch the video? They said those were free cabinets, salvage, particle board. They didn't build them.
Like many have said, such a big space and no bathroom/toilet. Also, a builder who has doors breaking off and not fixing them is a typical UK builder lol
Beautiful build. Love all of the designs
It’s good for going Glamping🤷🏻♀️ I like it👍🏼
So many cupboard doors fallen off :D but yea, I'd skip the heavy stuff, like the wood burner and kitchen being super solid.
One thing I'm wondering is why people keep wanting inverters, it's a waste of energy, since most small electronics run on DC anyway... I'd probably run a 24V system instead,, easy to convert to 12V and 5V without much energy waste... then perhaps have a 200W inverter in a storage space somewhere, in case it's needed. 24V is also compatible with much of the long haul trucker and boat equipment that's been used for decades. But of course, it'd require some proper size cables to run the wiring if you want to pull that wattage out of every outlet. Most laptops do well with something like 19V DC, Most phones are charged by 5V DC, LED lights are DC... AC is very good for distribution, but most light electronics wants DC, solar is DC and changing voltage is easy without much waste energy, unless you plan to run a motor off it.
No bathroom? It's neat, but I'd like to have seen that toilet, shower, sink, vanity thing. Thank you for sharing; love the doors! Many neat ideas.
Great Video!
The bed situation is a little weird. Probably a better idea would be to make one of the sofas on wheels so you can just pull them together. But it’s pretty cool in general.
I really like the back doors. Thanks for the video. What material did you use for the metal around the doors? Also, did you use anything to seal them from the weather/bugs?
I am thinking about doing a box truck conversion and haven't seen many already made up. This gives me a good idea what my layout might look like, even though I insist on a bathroom in mine. How long is the cargo area? Seems like I can squeeze two beds into my imaginary layout and still have a bathroom and mine didn't have the over cab bunk space. I like the windows and the fact the open space above makes it look roomier than the usual Sprinter van conversions. The length box I am going for is 14 feet. Perhaps this one here is shorter.
Good job lad's!
I love it thanks!
Very creative❤️👍❤️⬆️❤️
Ok what are those box trucks called with the extra space above the driver seat!? I can't find them anywhere! Please help!!🙏
It's funny... of all of the sarcasm and hate in the comments... I wonder how many of those people have actually built a van or are living a life close to what these guys are living?
My guess... zero ;)
Too much time watching van builds and leaving... "comments"... on the less than paerfect builds... not enough time building vans and living the life, that would be my guess ;)
I have referenced their van build video many times, and learnt from that door error in said video too... ;) And their youtube channel is always a nice watch.
Do you make your own compressed paper pellets or chunks for the heater? In case the batteries don't charge, due to weather, did you give it any thought to use the alternator to help charge your solar batteries?
The title of the video has the word LUXURY in it but it's so far from it.
Luxury means something different for everyone.
What’s not luxury about it it’s brilliant
Luxury!! This looks like a shed made by children.
pink flamingos and lot of cushions???
Anyone know roughly how much it would cosr to convert a van to this specific spec? Thanks
marvelous but did I miss the bathroom/shower ?
Do a Murphy bed guys
We all know dobby sleeps in masters bed... c'mon now..... literally flamingos in every scene.
I really liked the wing story.
Great build. I love all their ideas. I’d want at least some type of privacy for a toilet. But otherwise great use of space and design.
Hi Nate, do you know wich exact model is it ?
Avoid mdf and plasterboard - really heavy and wasteful on fuel. Thin plywood better I think, can put a little framing around it to strengthen it if necessary.
These 2 must work alot because they haven’t fixed a thing in their van 😝 jus kinda funny how much is broken or damaged. Otherwise nice build!
What you lack of is a toilet / bathroom. If I were you, I would make the kitchen area smaller and intstall a toilet / bathroom right next to your raised bed.... However, you need to modify it !
Me after watching Forged in Fire:
_The table has developed a warp_
Why do you not get one of, those Luguna tables
Not luxury click bait but decent build from some cool gents.
What kind of box is this?
Being a luton did you have height trouble on your journey. Thinking of building my own van
I noticed no commode or mention of bathing aides. Otherwise, it is pretty neat !
As an American I find your perception of a long drive hilarious.
What 35 hours? Yeah right.
@@chatteyj I heard 5 hours.
@@secondact7151 Yeah, I could not hear it correctly it either, but driving from UK to Greece is going to take a long, you do take a ferry from UK to mainland Europe too. That does not take that long, but does slow you down a bit.
Seen many van conversions this is nothing special .that size no shower toilet the worst take it down
Thinking of making something like this, but not too sure about budget. Could anyone help me get a general idea of how much all this costs?
Nice characters :) This is almost a tiny house.
Did anyone catch what kind of van it is? The model?
What's the where's the bathroom and which the shower that's important
I’ll give you a tenner 👍
Pink
@11:05 110 mm wide is roughly 4.5 inches.
For the space the had the could’ve utilized so much more of it
You just need a second tale leg, thats what I'd do, have two legs it'll support the wait of the tale plenty.
Nice conversion though
How many feet is it?
I was going to say Two people yet Only one bed... and you mentioned girls... there’s me thinning you don’t need girls.... there’s no bathroom or toilet, oh and he’s got his coat on but no shoes 😂 Don’t you need a sealed box for the gas bottle to go in ? Not a very good advertisement of his skills as a builder with things falling off.
A couple of fellows that have not come out yet.
You are crazy? If this mens have more than from friends ok its so personal and sweet.you are ratsistik person? My god.......
@@roadiemort3589 that's what I thought
Use 2 legs for oak 'table' support; 1 leg is inherently unstable, especially with that weight. Cut down dowel or broomstick and a couple of pipe wall flanges? Available anywhere really.
I left at the story about the wings
Mich würde interessieren wie schwer der van mit dem Aufbau ist.
No toilet or shower with so much space WASTED!!
Most wasted space in camper van ever build in youtube... 🤣
Nice very nice indeed and I Love the angel wings
I'd like to see how much or what it would take to own a crockpot and cook every 4 or 5 days and have a good refrigerator to put the stuff in plastic containers in it! I want good food! I'm vegan and vegetarian mostly want to be vegan
What about shower, and toilet, that would be great
Click bait
Watched the build of this van by these guys....Right pair of characters! All the best guys from back home in the UK! P.S Nate? Love the vids, the climbing ones scare the crap out of me but for some reason I still keep watching! Hoping to do my own van soon enough. In mad saving mode. Hoping to hit 50 and drop out!
Right on!! Good luck with the plan! Thanks for watching!
No toilet or shower and you call its luxury......The very basics humans need in a home. Least you have slate on some walls
czcams.com/video/5h-B_t5xZSY/video.html you'll like this one :)
That's HOW they do it in Europe LOL
Showers aren't the best idea for a van. Lots of expense, waterproof compartment and plumbing and hot water heater, and if you actually use it, there goes all your water. It's way more functional to just have a shower that works out the back of the van.
@@xyzzyxyzzy2 If they aren't the best why does every single motorhome/van converting company add them in??? BECAUSE PEOPLE WANT TO TAKE A SHIT AND HAVE SHOWER
Showers are a complete luxury no question but a toilet can come in handy for emergencies.
notice he said's they use a lot of heavy materials and notice almost everything is built on the right side.Don't make that sharp left turn buddy
Stunning work guys love your Angel wings
Amazing build no toilet-shower room ://
All that space and no shower or toilet 🧐
It seems big but small at the same time.
Gas whit no ventilation and a fire next Doors that can be verry hot,but only one time
This classic British voice triggers me so hard
aaawww you poor poor thing bet your a "millennial" go outside and play . . .
Damn y’all are hating on their van for no reason. Mind your businesses
Paint the oak.
13:16
The bed design is suspect. He could have done a much better job with that space.
