- From my collection of recordings that I made off the air on VHS cassettes, this was Emmylou's first appearance as a headliner on an ACL program. It was aired as the first set of the first program of Season 7. (The second set featured Rodney Crowell; but, I did not record it.) My notes made at the time indicate that I recorded this in July 1983, which must have been from a rerun of the original program.
I met Emmylou at a meet ‘n greet after the first appearance of her with the Nash Ramblers in Sanford FL.
I stayed up till almost 3am to get her to autograph my old copy of “Grievous Angel”. Happy Trails!
Hardly strictly bluegrass just finished up with Emmy Lou as closer, as usual. It's hard to make Golden gate Park prettier than it already is, and Emmy Lou manages to make it glow. 18 songs from a span of her entire career. What a professional. We'll keep coming back if she does. Long may she run❤
I will forever be amazed at how effortlessly she sings. We love you, Emmylou!
Don't forget the band! whoa!
Not sure what is more stunning her musical talent or her beauty
Ladies and gentlemen boys and girls cowboys and Indians.
Welcome to the show...
Glad Gram initially saw what we are now see and enjoying.
That was one of the best ACL performances of all time.
Love Love Love Emmylou Harris, she was the heart of country music for me in the 70’s 80’s 90’s & continues to be. ❤ And Americana, she helped birth Americana with Rodney and Roseanne.
Emmylou harris was my favorite singer during my 20’s now i’m 70
My imagination couldn’t conceive of someone such as Emmylou. Her voice is so provocative and packaged so well within a true blend of beauty and melody. She has captivated my taste for music 50 plus years now. Emmylou shivers my timbers!
40 yrs later still hot n awesome
She was the HOT in that amazing Hot Band! I absolutely enjoyed a few minutes chatting with her in Vermont around the same era following another fine show. Thanks Emmy, and thanks Gram!
Met Emmy backstage in Phoenix during Yellow moon tour with Rodney Crowell. Both lovely, gratious people. My mom played Emmy at her small town restaurant in the Chilcotin/ Cariboo country in BC, Canada in the 80's . This lady lured me away from rock to country. Huge fan.
Such a beautiful smile, even in her older years
First saw Emmylou with Gram Parsons, singing heavenly harmony💃🎼🎼 THAT’S ALL IT TOOK!!! I was Hooked 😘
Love Emmylou the Best
You lucky dog! That show is my first stop when I perfect this time traveling machine! Yes! 😍👍👍👍
She's just a fabulous artist. I've been a fan since 1975 and her music still holds up. I admire her for never chasing trends and especially for growing old gracefully
that's the year she hooked me too, at a bunch of small shows at Knott's by herself. undeniable pure country soul.
Magnifique Artistes
Growing old gracefully? She's aging like a godess!
@@jdschlottmann7777 you've got that right!
Shes absolutely beautiful to her old days. no need.
Happy 75th Birthday to a wonderful lady! Hard to believe that this video is from 40 years ago and that such a great singer songwriter is still going strong and so loved! Emmylou is a treasure! Again, happy 75th!
Are you kidding? She is 75? Wow!
10 years ago I took my wife and my daughter for her graduation from high school to Ireland - a trip we talked about taking for many years. In the little village of Doolin, in a little shop filled with paintings I heard the old familiar songs of EmmyLou Harris. I talked to the painter and shopkeeper about EmmyLou Harris for a good 15 minutes. Amazing how the love of the music could bring two people together in shared admiration though normally separated by 4,000 miles!
MARRY ME EMMYLOU HARRIS ? DAVID WATSON
I miss these eras...
Emmylou has the voice of an angel I’ve seen her many times and have Never been disappointed. I have to say there’s not one song 🎵 I don’t like/love. Emmylou you enriched my life so all through high school to present day 50 years later. 😮❤ Oh, we share the same Birthday, too with 10 year difference. Aries rock. ❤
There I was accidentally booked on one of those rock cruises with all of these terrific "Women of Rock." I didn't even realize it was a chartered ship, with venues all around, blocked off from us regular cruisers. One night I was grooving to the band onstage in the lobby, where everyone could go. As I danced on one leg (my broken ankle was in a walking boot) I noticed two women wearing western clothes and hats, dancing right next to me. I looked straight into the eyes of the older, prettier of the two. She looked right back into my eyes and smiled. The song ended and so did the dance. They disappeared. It took me a minute to realize that moment in heaven was with Emmylou Harris.
I am an agnostic/borderline atheist but God, SHE favored you that night. I would pay you money for that smile. When Emmylou came by her ethereal platinum she became like the younger sister of my late wife of 62+ years. Yes, God, SHE was good to me too. 15:53
@@hubertodom2350What makes you think God is a female?
Fantastic! From VHS tape in 1983 to a perfect digital transition nearly 40 years later! Audio and video both retained at highest quality, remarkable and greatly appreciated. Thank you! ❤ 🎉
Thank you very much for your comment. I'm glad it survived 21 years in a basement and 3 in an attic.
Awesome performer! Reminds me of great times living in the beautiful Ozark Mountains, Holiday Island, AR.
The coolest, sexiest, most amazingly talented beautiful grey haired lady on planet earth.
I love you, Emmy!
Emmylou's greatest gift to Country music besides all of her fantastic recordings, is convincing Vern Gosdin to leave his glass business in Georgia and get back into music again, helping him to get signed to Elektra.
What can I say its all beautiful music, beautiful Emmylou and a great band. Watching now in Philippines while typhoon Soala hit northern Luzon. August 27, 2023...
Luvvvv it !❤❤❤

I'm turning 75 this year also. Have been enjoying this wonderful woman's music since the 1970's... have seen her in concert and done many road trips with her amazing voice blasting in the vehicle. She's my favorite?!!
Emmylou is Miss Grit & Bold and Victor..she's wether like I'am ❤❤❤ Emmylou " unqualified Country Rock Star "
Love all she sings! First heard her live years and years ago in a little club in Georgetown. ❤❤❤
Gram was smiling from above. Great job Emmylou
Oh my God for sure he was
Refreshing to see a Les Paul TV model instead of the usual Telecaster.
Emmylou Harris has been making my heart skip a beat and do a back flip since I was 14 years old. I had a huge epiphany around that time, I became re-acquainted with country music, and it came about because of Emmylou Harris, and Asleep at the Wheel on Austin City Limits. I heard it on a deeper level than when I was little. Those sentiments remain until today. I am eternally grateful to Emmylou for providing not only great music, but for educating me by playing so much of the old stuff and revitalizing it.
YESTERDAY
I DO ❤ LOVE YOU SO MUCH.
she is a national treasure , love her music
everybody loves emmy lou. she's just great! & the hot band is hot!!
Love the quick shot of Liberty Lunch in the opening sequence
As a testament to Emmy’s talent and devotion to country music, look at the musicians that have been in her band.
Vince Gill, Rodney Crowell, James Burton, Albert Lee, Buddy Miller, Ricky Skaggs. To name a few
Speaking of talent AND devotion . . . still touring ( thank God ) too!! : ))
True agree with you the best ones
and Frank Reckard... a guitar master..
Don't forget Mark Knopfler, Brian Blades and Daniel Lanois
And that Damn Yankee Barry Tashian from famous Boston garage band The Remains who toured with the Beatles - tearing up those harmonies ;) He was good friends with Gram Parsons from his Harvard/International Submarine Band days.
My Mom's last time out of the house on an adventure is going to be to see Emmylou in concert with the symphony. We both are looking forward to it and I will treasure this upcoming memory for the rest of my life! Thank you Emmylou!
At her birth she was blessed by gods, the north gods of course!!! Beautiful as a flower, a golden voice incredible and so much talent to write all these beautifuls songs!! And she is a simple human being!!!!
Just WOW!
'If I Could Only Win Your Love' is just a flawless recording.
yes indeed!
Thanks to the killer harmonies of HERB PEDERSEN. He's been kind of an unsung hero of country, folk and bluegrass and been on countless albums over the decades.
I have that album...that and Makin' Believe have always been favorites!
I watched this on tv when it came out, man I’m old.
I saw Emmy Lou and the Hot Band at the Pipeline Tavern in Seattle approx. 1977. A great show, like this one, that also included Albert Lee on lead guitar. Emmy's such a great performer and gives it her all.
Nearly forty years and still can’t get enough of her.
Same.
I still remember, as though it were yesterday, when a friend dropped by with a cassette. He said, "you have gotta hear this song".He played me Boulder To Birmingham.Times have changed. Now I listen to her on the iPod.Like you, I still love Emmylou.

Hey 👋 how are you doing..?
22 years ago..and she's just as beautiful now as in 1982. Happy Birthday Emmy. I watched Emmylou when she was an unknown back in 1971 singing at bars in Washington DC. I knew then she would be a super star cause her voice was so beautiful. The Hot Band made it even better. Thanks Emmylou for the memories.
MARRY ME EMMYLOU I WILL ❤ LOVE YOU FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
22 years ago? Try 40.
Her hair is even more beautiful now, a wonderful shade of gray.
@tomandkathywalker7983 hey I'll take it 😂
@@psalmer5690math isn't everybody's strong point😮
I had the privilege of sitting in on a closed door rehearsal of Emmylou and Her Hot Band, in Charleston, as they were preparing for a world tour early in the 1980s.
Great set!
It is criminal they didn't give her an entire episode.
What a Voice 👏👏👏
What’s not to love, beauty and talent in a dynamic package?
I don't always listen to Emmy, but when I do, I'm always amazed.
Wow -- fabulous old rock'n'roll! She can do anything, can't she?
Glad I found this!! Thanks She is 74 and still number one!!!
Opened for Emmy Lou at Rialto in Loveland CO. She was fantastic--I was so excited when I met her I forgot to get autograph.
Thank you so much for that, Emmylou.
1st saw her in 1978 when she opened for Willie & Family, fell in love. That has only gotten stronger with time.

pretty amazing, folks, pretty amazing!
Great intro highlighting the old Austin of the late 70s and early 80s. It is sadly all gone now.
Beautiful
Total class act. Voice of an angel.
So fortunate to have seen the hot band five times in the late seventies. Never forget it
I'm so glad I saw the original Hot Band; these guys are great as well.
I had no idea this existed. Thank you! Love Miss Emmylou! Alway's have since I first heard her sing. ❤
Hey how are you doing today..?
The voice of an angel.
Excellent footage. Going to see her April 22 in Dallas at the Longhorn Ballroom. I can't wait. I just finished 20,000 Roads. I need it. Fallen Angels forever.
one beautiful voice and an awesome legend
Wow! Austin is unrecognizable now from the time of this video intro.
Great quality. She never sounded better. Thank you.
One of the best country singers ever. saw her in 1976 at the Long Beach banjo and fiddle festival, and in her Hot Band was Elvis Presley back of band members, James Burton, and Glenn D.Hardin which I which believe was your best band
1 HOT band!!!!!! She is a super talent!!!!
Thank You for posting this. Emmylou gold.
Just watched the first song. Great! She and her band just fabulous.
Piano sounds great. Top end nicely tuned.
Absolutely love Emmylou's music and her performances are just wonderful. I've been a fan since I discovered as a young lad in high school which was right around this time of this recording. Boy oh boy oh boy, did I have a crush on this pretty lady. I guess I still do. Thanks for posting this.
I just discovered my new favorite version of James Taylor's "Millworker" after all these years. Wow.
Awesome talent all over!!
With Austin City Limits in its 7th season in 1982, Austin City Limits nominated and won their first ACM and CMA Awards. Producer Terry Lickona called John Mills, and he asked him to record the opening theme. So he went to the studio and recorded it, and then they put it on acetate. The Austin skyline backdrop was introduced, which was based on a photograph taken by Scott Newton in 1980. Chairs and tables were added to the set, so that concertgoers can listen in. During this season, Austin City Limits creator and founder Bill Arhos returned to the show, becoming the executive producer, so he asked him to come back to Austin City Limits, and they put him back in the closing credits to get the viewers ready. Season 7 of Austin City Limits aired on PBS in 1982, consisting of 13 one-hour episodes.👍
Thanks for a lovely evening with you and your beautiful songs and specially your voice i do love you and your voice too my sweet darling.🤩😘😋😛😛😋
IN the late 70’s and 80’s there were times that 6. 7 or 8 of Emmylou’S. Songs would get air play all in one week on the New York radio station . Looking back this was something that we may never see again in our lifetime. It was being
Part of the journey of one of the most
Indeering laidies of country music. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world
E L looks like she toured alot in her early days & she aged so well = She's like the Paul McCartney of women's country music
Unbelievably talented and beautiful to this day! Terrific ACL session as she was in concert when I saw her about a year prior. Great memories. Keep on keepin'!
I listened her for the first time when I was 12...and I loved her voice..since then I think she has the best female voice ever...the song was If I needed you
My absolute favorite am singing along with e mmylou right now!!
Hot Hot Hot ! Wow Emmylou !
Only a couple years ago I was playing Quarter Moon in my 65 Ford pickup...well...it seemed like a couple years! 8 track no less!
Who's idea was it to put Emmy Lou, Linda and Dolly together?? Talk about a true Super Group!!!
The pedal steel is the hot in the Hot Band. That shit cooks.
Emmylou hung tight with the outlaws of country music, Willie, Waylon, Chris.
And sang with Gram Parsons who was the original outlaw who showed the way for the rest
I love her countrified version of "Shop Around"! (: Just love my Emmylou! (:
넘 좋아요!
After watching the Ken Burns 'Country Music' documentaries I've become more of an Emmylou fan than ever..
Marty Stuart said she had sparks flying off of her during her performance with Gram Parsons and the Eagles back in '73 at MSU, but looking at this, she throws off sparks every time she gets behind that microphone, especially when she summons the spirit of Wanda Jackson in some of these songs..
Hell dear,how are you doing?
GUAUUUUU!!!!! Amazing!!
She ages like champagne.
Amazing!!!!
Crazy in love with Emmylou. ❤❤❤
Moja najwspanialsza artystka. 2 lata młodsza ode mnie. 100 lat!🇵🇱👑💖💐👑💖💐Poland
