As a previous Lumia 920 user who upgraded to 925 then finally got the Lumia 1020, All I can say that it seems I got a new addiction, these phones are simply great if not the best among all competitors in terms of quality that includes great photography, wonderful screens, amazing sound quality and much more!
However for me and as I'm still addicted to my Lumia 1020 fine outcomes specifying the Camera, sound and Screen, I will be waiting for more Megapixels Lumia phablet to buy at least I can get both more horse power along with ultimate photography.
    Cheerz! Adel

  • @TheMayanShaman

As Michael said, it is the sotware the one draging this phone down. The addition of the SD card is kind of crippled without a proper file explorer. Also the lack of USB host capabilities is another unfortunate limitation of WP8 that push these devices out of power users' radar.
This type of devices (phablets) would benefit a lot from having a OS like WinRT which, although not good enough for desktop devices, would certainly make this device far more usable than it is with WP8.
Hoperfully, MS may update WP8 to be more like WinRT so these devices are more versatile in the future.

I made the same switch. I was a bit scared about it. But now I really like WP and integration between multiple devices (phone, Surface Pro, Notebook).
I started with a second hand 925, and I finished just today to buy a 1520.
      I just sold my 925.
I was coming from a Galaxy Note N7000 and I wouldn't buy a Samsung again.
The build quality of Nokias/Microsoft is very high.
I liked the smaller size of the 925 and portability, but I miss the readability of the phablet size devices and the lack of an external storage slot.
      So that's why I switched to 1520.
I hope to get used by size.

Worth noting this is a review of the inferior AT&T version that has 1/2 the storage and no wireless charging compared to the non-gimped European/Australian version. Also, it has a super sensitive touchscreen that can be used even when wearing gloves which could be a HUGE selling point for anyone living through winters where u don't want your hands freezing off.
Its a GREAT phone/phablet. I've had mine for a couple of months and found it VERY VERY difficult to switch back to my 2010 with its 'tiny' 4.5" screen, and its just so more polished design and materials wise than any other device I've used (and I've used a LOT). The OS is also the only mobile OS that feels current in its look and feel. Apple hasn't done jack for years with iOS and android used to and still feels like a barely working collection of disparate parts bolted together.

That was a very true review.
I too am pissed with companies not using the screen size to advantage. I have a note 3 but the UI makes it look like an upsized S4... Thats stupid...Why cant we have more icons on the screen and multi tasking windows at the same time...
Atleast this one has a home screen with more tiles, so that we dont have to hunt around. But again just one step in to the UI and again the disappointment creeps in...

Too big for a Phone, too small for a tablet. It doesnt matter. These devices are personal computers and their size depends on personal preference. Microsoft is moving towards one OS for all devices. So you can run the same Windows on your Phone, tablet, laptop, desktop or whatever you call your daily driver. This is a pretty cool vision for the future and it puts them ahead of Apple and Google that have multiple isolated operating systems.

That is a good looking phone for its size. Windows needs to figure out how to utilize that size more. Good thing is that looks like it could be fixed in software updates. The only thing I would worry about is that it never gets a software update. But have to say the home screen does look nice.

Screen colors are not accurate on any of these Nokia devices. The colors are way too saturated. I pulled up a pic of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco because I know what color orange it is supposed to be and it looked way too reddish.
I put my iPhone next to it side by side and the iPhone's colors looked more bland, but they were far more true to life. I also pulled up a white background by doing a Google search for "white background" and compared the images. My iPhone came up with a much whiter looking background.
Having colors super saturated isn't a bad thing. It means every time you look at your device it will have bright, beautiful colors bursting at the seams. It just might get a little old after a while.

While I like the larger size of the 1520 for games , e-reader & general ease of viewing, I think the overall size & sharper corners would make it a meanace for those of us with smaller heads/ears. When talking on this phone, I think I would look like someone from the boom box craze of the 80's. I can't really imagine most people being able to converse while walking and having to single-handedly hand on to this gargantuan phone. A tablet would be a better way to spend your money if you want a larger screen and more useful functions & features. For those of us who still use our phones for making/taking frequent calls, we might be better off staying with a conventional size smartphone that is easily managed one handed. I will stick with my Lumia 520 for now. I have a real camera if I want better photos. I love having a removable battery that I can switch out for an extra battery if it looks like I am about to run out of power. Built in batteries are not a plus feature of me.
Great review as always. The 1520 is interesting, but that's about all you can say for this addition to the Lumia line.

Yeah but the specs are far between them. CPU, GPU, screen resolution and the capability of the 1520 to throw RAW DNG files.
The power of the unit will be important to determine how Microsoft will update functionality of the the device in the future.

This phone is arriving on Wednesday. If it handles most of my tablet needs my Surface RT is going to my nephew.

I notice that I could get the night mode in the 1520 pro cam, but I can't find it in 1020 pro cam feature? Is it possible that still not yet update for my 1020 to Amber?

I like the Nokia Lumia 1520 it's just the right size and for me it's has the comfort of Neflix, Hulu Plus & its great for when I use skype. The only thing is that it's a little big for me to talk on the phone with people
