    What is a Masonic Jurisdiction?
    by: Tatsulok, 33
As per Albert Mackey's Masonic Encyclopedia (1884), "The Jurisdiction of a Grand Lodge extends over every Lodge working within its territorial limits, and over all places not already occupied by a Grand Lodge. xxx This is the settled and well-recognized law of American and English Masonry. But the continental Masons, and especially the Germans, have not so rigidly interpreted this law of unoccupied territory; and there have been in France, and still are in Germany, several Grand Lodges in the same kingdom exercising coordinate powers."
As to the Philippines, these are the current and existing Regular Masonic Jurisdictions/Obediences today:
    1. Anglo-American origin, Grand Lodge of the Philippines (1912) - chartered and regularized by the Grand Lodge of California after three American regular lodges namely Cavite Lodge No. 350, Manila Lodge No. 342 and Corregidor Lodge No. 386 decided to form an American Grand Lodge here in the Philippines which was introduced to the country by American servicemen. Today, GLP consists of more than 100 regular blue lodges practicing the York Rite all over the Philippines.
    2. Continental (Francmason), Gran Logia Nacional Filipinas (1924) - founded by IPB Timoteo Paez, 33 (Logia Nilad) who was one of the pioneers of the Regional Grand Lodge of Spain (Gran Oriente Español) here in the Philippines. Today, GLNF consists of more than twenty regular symbolic lodges practicing the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite all over the country.
    3. York Rite, Independent Grand Lodge of the Philippines (2006) - formed by and from seven regular lodges of the Grand Lodge of the Philippines namely Pilar Lodge, Bagong Buhay Lodge, Cavite Lodge No. 2, Pres. Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Lodge, Bagong Ilaw Lodge, La Naval Lodge, and Mendez Nunez Lodge. Today, IGLPI consists of more than twenty regular blue lodges practicing the York Rite all over the country.
    4. UK origin, Mixed Masonry/ York Rite, Grand Lodge of Modern Mixed Masons (2020) - chartered here in the Philippines by Freemasons coming from the UK. Today, GLMMM has more than 15 Regular Blue Lodges all over the country practicing the York Rite.
    5. Continental (Francmason), Gran Logia Soberana del Archipielago Filipino/ Sovereign Grand Lodge of the Philippine Archipelago/ Soberana Masonerya (1925/1926)- formerly the Regional Grand Lodge of the Gran Oriente Español (1800s) which was granted a Charter by the same Masonic Obedience as Gran Logia del Archipielago Filipino. A year after it was consecrated as Sovereign and Independent, it adopted the name GLSdAF/ SGLOTPA. This Obedience was brought to the Philippine Islands by Filipino heroes i.e. WB Jose P. Rizal, among others, after they joined Symbolic Lodges in Spain. Today, GLSdAF/ SGLOTPA has more than 30 regular symbolic lodges belonging to three affiliations: GM Fajardo, 33; GM Navarro, 33; & GM Jordan, 33 with its presence all over the country practicing the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.
    6. Scottish Rite, Scotland Origin, Grand Lodge of Antient Free and Accepted Masons of Scotland (1907) has one regular Lodge (Logia Perla del Oriente No. 1034).
    7. York Rite, USA Origin, Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Washington (1971) has one regular Lodge (Mabuhay Lodge No. 59) in Angeles City, Pampanga.
    8. Continental/ Mixed Masonry, French Origin, Le Droit Humain (2023) has one Symbolic Lodge (La Independencia No. 2157) in Kawit, Cavite.
N.B. The numbering indicated in this list does not mean that one Grand Lodge is superior than the other/s.
Also, the issue of regularity of blue/symbolic lodges and/or Grand Lodge(s) is irrelevant as to the practice and continuation of Masonic labours per Masonic Obedience for each jurisdiction stands as independent from each other.
Additionally, each Grand Lodge has its own Constitution, General Statutes, History, Lineage, Culture, Tradition and Interior Regulations. Thus, its laws, perspectives, and other circumstances do not apply to other Filipino Masonic Grand Lodges.
If one Grand Lodge shall say that another Grand Lodge(s) is/are irregular (clandestine), then the latter can also say that the former is also irregular (clandestine).
However, in the concept of Universal Freemasonry, this should not be the case since the columns of Freemasonry (Blue Lodges/ York Rite) or Continental/ Francmasoneria (Symbolic Lodges/ AASR) were erected to unite, not divide, and promote friendship, harmony and goodwill among Masons whithersoever dispersed regardless of Race, Creed, Nationality and Jurisdiction.
Although Masonic recognition, amity and interdependence should be the main goal and objective among Grand Lodges in the Philippines, such ideal needs further nurturing and cultivation among Freemasons belonging to these different Obediences in the country.
As long as these remain unachieved, then the purpose of Freemasonry to humanity particularly to the Filipino peoples and Filipino Masons have not yet been fully achieved.
Thus, Masonic labours shall continue and shall persist no matter the challenges faced by any and all Filipino Masonic Obediences. And not one Masonic Jurisdiction can stop the growth of Universal Freemasonry in the Philippines.
