When my father was dying, our cat very quickly learned that he shouldn't try and sit or sleep on Dad. Instead our cat spent hours sitting next to him, with only the top of his head touching Dad's leg. Just, you know, to be there. When I got very ill a couple of years later, the cat quickly switched from being a super demanding "you must carry me around at all times" kitty to quietly being near me, just the top of his head touching. He was a wonderful old man, and I still feel privileged we were able to take him through his last days as lovingly as he took Dad through his.

My oldest cat Ralphie was abused by his original owners and he was very mean and attacked everyone. When he finally came to live with us it took us about six months and now he is very affectionate and loves to be next to us and lay on us. He did a complete 180. He's about 15 to 16 now and if anyone is wondering it isn't too late for a cat to change and grow as an individual. He's such a good boy. Too bad he was sadly declawed by his original owners front and back.

About 8 years ago when I was couch surfing at a friend's house, her cat Arya decided to sleep on my chest. I once stayed over at a friends house and she has 3 cats. I imagined they'd snuggle up in the night and I'd wake up looking like some sortof well-rested mother earth with 3 catbabies in her arms.
Instead, one of her cats woke me up by staring at me, slowly climbing closer, onto my chest and holding his paw close to my face. I had a few seconds before he began striking and pulled the blanket up just in time. He kept clawing, over and over, but silently, like he was tapping my face with a claw. Nails were out, blanket tore. I hid and he kept going. He didn't look angry, he looked curious, but the sounds of the hooked nails in the blanket were really nasty, I wouldn't have wanted those in my face. I slept hidden under the blanket the whole night

@@Rosiroo I have a new nextdoor neighbor that hates all little lives, I swear. No use for love, or giving it, outside of "his people", and I wonder even about that. He went so far as to threaten my cats lives. 😩
I look at my "dog-cat" following me, cat-talking or playing, sunning and purring, and wonder if some human bodies just lost their souls somewhere 😥
We have a huge outdoor space, my cat loves to keep close to me, and I've worked very hard to be outside WITH my cats, and limit or prevent their wandering the other yards. This guy just hates outdoor life, and had said so. I've given up on him. His beautiful yard of his new home is status ONLY to him. Dirty, rabbits and possums should be killed and kept from him, and only dealt with to dominate.

I love cats and have two, but they are pests destroying the biodiversity and ecosystems when left to roam outdoors and kill "prey" so please be a responsible owner and put bells on their collars or keep them inside (ofc spay and neuter as well)

    • @KOKO-uu7yd

@@kweeniepiez absolutely! They are both neutered, and to help keep them safe I walk WITH them. They are both leash and harness trained, but one will walk with me WITHOUT any leash now. He just wants companionship outside. Being with them also limits the neighbor's property exposure to their markings etc, too.
I just know that, with two small kids, they DO get out sometimes. And chasing them has never ever worked for me. They just run, and then I can't help at all if something does happen, if i have no idea where they are.
I also have a fenced "garden" area, HUGE, that I am almost done with. There is a basement window I'm making an access tunnel for them from. They'll be secure (fencing bending inside at angle, chicken wire they don't like climbing, it's a good system). And they can be outside more freely, but limited.
I've looked at the wildlife and plant life for my city area, btw. There is nothing fragile left here, sadly. So, from an ecological perspective, I can't see a notable impact they will have there. Now, if that same neighbor (or another) starts to POISON rodents, that is very much a concern of a different sort!
Also, when I walk them, I carry little bags just like a dog owner. It can be difficult to find their little "logs", but no one wants cat crap any more than dog crap.
I'll be glad for the limitation on their peeing, though. We have ferals, so I know that whatever my cats hit, they are certainly not the first. But, still...😒

My cat likes check how I’m doing throughout the day. This time he must have felt something different because he decided to lay down on top of me, all stretchy and a full dead weight. Never felt him weigh this heavily on me and he stayed that way all through the day and night. I had to use my arms to push him off me when a little nudge is all he usually needs. When I called my therapist to explain I wasn’t doing so well, felt my skin was too tight and that my cat didn’t want to leave my side and felt so heavy on me, she came to the conclusion that I was having some form of panic attack (nothing like the ones I’m used to having) and worked on another grounding technique I had never tried before (a form of mindfulness where observing the emotions going through my body, acceptance & letting go, and soothing the inner child). As soon as this exercise was done the cat left and went on doing his own daily routine and ignoring me the rest of the day until bedtime (and him getting a treat).
I ❤ my cat even more now than I did before this episode. I’m thankful every day to have him in my life. He came into my life when I was at my lowest 15 years ago and we’ve been there for each other ever since. We’re two peas in a pod… a furry one and me, hopefully less hairy.

Now here I am with 10+ cats....which means I have a lot of grief awaiting me when I lose each one. But I try not to focus too much on that, but instead I try to realize that they're here right now and they need me. Your Ken was obviously a very special boy. My Bengal isn’t too fond of my father when he visits as he’s actually afraid of the cat and teases her with his fingers then wonders why she nips him! It’s because she sees his fingers now as toys, but my Mother was hospitalised over Christmas and my Dad was upset (he has Alzheimer’s) and my cat wouldn’t leave his side day or night, she purred, licked, kneaded him and cuddled in, so just shows you how caring and smart a wee 1 year old Bengal can be! I know eye contact is serious business with cats and that paw to the face was such a meaningful gesture. Of course, there was another day when I was laying on the couch crying, and she punched me in the eye. I guess, we all have our off days.

Yep. I lived in a basement apartment and the cat upstairs would occasionally, but rarely, visit me. He wouldn’t stay long when he did, as he was pretty independent. Well, one night I got a call that my mom had died and I raced back home to tend to her affairs. A few days later, when I returned to my city, as I opened my basement entrance, he was waiting there for me. He followed me in and didn’t leave my side as I unpacked etc When I got into bed, he laid by my side and cuddled close to me…he saw me through my tears and grief, spent the entire night with me (which he had never done before) and when I was a little more ‘together’ he gave me a kiss and left, heading back upstairs. But for a period of about 20 hours, he didn’t leave my side and comforted me as best as he could. He just knew somehow that I needed him.

Not me knowing all of this subconsciously, but never TRULY giving my cat the space he needs to express himself freely. Thank you for the lil nudge of knowledge. Realizing that my lil buddy does show his love daily, I just haven’t been respecting his space enough to let him do what he feels is right to him. Also learning lots about kitty consent through your videos which I’m grateful for because all I want to do is be all over my furry friend 🥲 Usually he’ll lay at my feet and I pull him in close to forcefully snuggle til he surrenders. After watching this however that is no more; even if he does start making bread when I do so. 🤣

Dogs are pretty much the same. Some breeds might have a few differences (ex: working dogs vs water dogs), but those are skill differences, not really personality differences. Cats are all different from each other, even within breeds. I've had several cats over my 60 years, even multiples of the same breed. (Russian Blue and Siamese), and no two kitties have been the same, personality-wise. They've each had their own unique quirks and ways of being.

My first cat Molly would learn and repeat and retain stuff quick. I would show her what I wanted her to learn three times in quick succession and she would have learned it. Naturally I thought cats are easy to train. Ok I know everyone is laughing at me. In 25 years since then, and many cats later I have never seen another cat do that. Molly lived to 23 years. The one consistency has been how much love, each in their own way, all the cats that I have had have given to me.

My cat, who passed at age 17 back in August, spent 12 or so years being that "aloof" type of cat, kind of grumpy, but then I left for college. Mom said he was kind of listless and depressed that entire time. He only slept on my empty bed. I came home that first summer and all of a sudden he wanted all of my attention all the time. He became a cuddle bug. It was surprising to see such a change in him because he'd missed me so much.
In his final months he couldn't get comfortable unless it was on my bed with me, in large part due to his arthritis, but I think also on an emotional level, where his body still hurt, but he felt safe and loved. My 2 cents: If you can afford it, when you have a terminally ill pet, spend the extra $$ to have the vet come to you & euthanize your cat at home. It was the best $300 I've ever spent when I had to put my sweet tabby girl down in March. I've had to make that awful drive to the vet alone in the past, then try to see through the tears to drive back home -- never again! When I had Sasha put to sleep, she was right there in my arms as the vet injected her with a sedative first, then the drug to stop her heart. Afterwards, I kept her body the couch in her usual spot for a few hours so my other kitteh could come over, smell her & realize that she was dead. The worst bit about taking a pet to the vet to be euthanized is when you come home with the empty carrier & your other cats are staring at it wondering what you did with their sibling. Having your babykins put to sleep at home eliminates that confusion & lets their siblings understand that their companion had died. Peaceful Passages was the service I used, but you can google a company that will send out a vet in your area. And expect your remaining cats to grieve for months, not weeks.

And like you said, if you have other animals or family, they get a chance to say goodbye and process the death. I so wish there was a free or affordable service for this. One of the greatest milestones after adopting an adult cat is when they accept you as a bed. It's a heartwarming process from under the couch, to under the bed, to in the bed under the covers (giving the human a heart attack when she comes home from work and can't find the cat she adopted less than a week ago seriously how does such a fat cat disappear in a locked apartment - wait how many pillows are under the cover and why is one of them breathing?) to finally sharing the bed and not taking constructive criticism on positions.

Several years ago my girlfriend and I allowed her brother to stay in our house for a while. One day when I was taking a nap on my stomach he picked up each cat and placed it on my back. I was guessing which cat it was by the weight and the amount of time it stayed on my back. I correctly guessed the names of 14 out of the 15 cats we had. He was blown away that I could tell which cat it was. I'm the one that took care of them so I knew them quite well.

Hi Jackson, watching your show on discovery family made me get my first rescue Tomasz who was such a comfort and companion to my late mother for 6 years. He was heartbroken when she passed and for some reason passed away soon after.
I recovered from the double loss and now I'm a mom of two catsand granny to two kittens😊. Thank you for all the wonderful insight you give to what wonderful companions cats are... God Bless you

When I brought Cucumber home he was six months old and on the first night he slept directly on my face. I had to push him off of my airways in order to avoid suffocation. For about a week afterwards he slept on my head and as he’s gotten older he’s moved to the pillow next to mine. He always stretches one paw out and places it on my head. He also likes it when I hold his paw until he falls asleep. He’s 10 months old now and I hope he never grows out of these little quirks ❤️

Going to bed is a nightly ritual in my house. First I arrange the pillows and the blankets and crawl in then 5 cats come to bed. One lays on my head, one lays next to me on his pillow, one lays at my left side one lays at my feet and one lays on my hip. It's a blessing to be loved by so many felines, protected, and warm.

my cat is lying on my legs in bed while i watch this. I know she does this a lot for warmth but she loves me too. But she also understands that when my husband and i are snuggling while watching tv it's her chance to have a cuddle party with both of us, and she often positions herself in seemingly uncomfortable positions just so she can be touching the both of us at the same time. 😂 She's a sweetie and makes me laugh.

My sweet orange and white ragdoll boy, Myles, will grab my arms and hold them in a little hug and fall asleep like that lol! My little calico girl, Nugget, likes to sleep as close as she can to my chest, head, or back. She will sniff my head, bonk me, and make biscuits and lay down. Cats are the best ❤

While cats are absolutely territorial, they are also familial, and scent is a large part of that. Communities of cats will share scent as a family. Marking people isn't so much about territory as it is about family. You're in my family. They want our scent on them too. It's a reason they seek out of favorite chair, it has our scent. It's why they like our feet, a ton of our pheromonal glands are there. Scent isn't just territory for cats. The head bonk and sharing of scent is like being in the Godfather's family.

I had another cat that adopted me when he was a kitten. He was a neighborhood stray. Every day when I got home from work I'd find him sitting at my front door. I finally took him in and he was a cuddle bug. When I'd sit in my recliner to watch TV he'd hop up on my lap and work his way up to my chest with his head near my ear and purr loudly to me. His first visit to the vet they asked me his name. It occured to me I hadn't giving him a name. I tilt them I always called him my little buddy. So his name became Buddy. He used to follow me around the house like a puppy. In the winter I kept the house pretty cool but I had an electric mattress pad on my bed. I'd leave it turned on low and he'd spend most of the day sleeping there. When I got home he'd greet me at the door. He was the most special cat I've ever had. I haven't had another cat since Buddy and I miss him. He lived about 21 to 22 years.

I still miss him waking me up with licking and chewing on my nose and ears, and his constant "MOW"s looking for pets or food. Theres something very special about Buddy's.

My two cats slept one on my abdomen and the other three legged one slept on my neck. We lived alone because my mother kept choking my neck just before I adopted them.
