- This is a review of a Peaky Blinder hat that I recently ordered. I was inspired by the Netflix show Peaky Blinders and the style of hats that Thomas Shelby and all of the Shelby boys wear. I dig it.

Yes! My grandpa used to where them too. He wore other snazzy hats too.
I have long worn and been a fan of the flat cap (the Ivy) and the variations on the theme of newsboy caps. The one you just purchased is a newsboy cap. It was popular with news boys, baker boys, and other working class people in the 1890s through the 1920s and 30's.
They also became popular with middle and upper class men for casual and sport wear.
I am very glad that the Peaky Blinders show has created so much interest in these caps and other clothing articles that make men's clothing much more interesting.
Thanks for the extra info. I agree, it is nice to have to good respectable fashion coming back. We need more of it. Now there are too much yoga pants and sweatpants with simple baseball hats. Not as classy.

I've read they are 1800's Straight Rasors. Like the kind of thing a Barber used. You can look them up online. Dangerous looking beasts: very close quarters fighting.

I appreciate that! I tried to get into character for this one and was channeling the Peaky Blinderʼs as best as I could.
You can see these types of casket hats on elders in Turkey, they grew in popularity because one of the prime ministers (Bülent Ecevit) was wearing one.

Thank you for your review, tips and heads up on choosing which size. I have a question, that I think is quite essential, concerning these caps. "What's the material of the visor?" Is it cardboard? Plastic? What I really want to know is whether, or not, the visor is impermeable. Because over a period of time, if the visor is, for example, made form cardboard, its going to inevitably get wet for and plethora of reasons, i.e. "sweat, rain, maintenance, other weather conditions, etc." Over a period of time afterwards, the visor becomes saturated and finally breaks. And that kills the cap. I've been wearing these style caps since I was a small boy. I'm 59 years old now. And I still wear one! So, this issue about the visor has been more or less chronic. I can't say for certain what the brim material is made from, but I have worn these in the rain and snow with no problem so far. I have a few of them and often swap them out depending on what I am wearing.

I have two caps from the peaky hat company. The tartan and the peaky apple. I love them
peaky blinders used to carry razor blades in their caps , mean while my hat has a buzz saw in its brim with a handle on the back in case I end up in a situation of a highway robbery again .

Those are not "hats". A hat has a brim that goes all around it. Technically those are "caps" . Specifically "flat caps"
I like it. Caps not hats. I use that from now on.
I did that with my vans hat and it slices much better has 4-5 razors on the edge of the brim though

Is it worth the extra money to pay $45 for this hat when there are many sellers on Amazon in the $12 to $19 price range? The reviews on the less expensive hats say they're great quality and people seem happy with them. That would be a good comparison review.
Come to think of it you could make a whole series out of it. "Do You Get What You Pay For?" Take expensive shoes to a cobbler and have him tear them down and tell you why they're worth $500 more than an affordable pair. Seems there would be big variations on that. Some things worth every penny of the extra money, but many things like $120 T-shirts where they're playing the consumer for a vain fool.
I'll have to look at some of the cheaper hats in comparison to this one. Good idea.

I have two flat caps, one is from the "Peaky collection" of their brand. Neither one is "baggy" .
Right. It is harder to find one that has that baggy look.

My friends wife is from Birmingham, she likens the Peakys to the lower level Purples, of Ecorse, Michigan! They never had the hold on business like the Krays, like it's depicted in the show. They're sort of a... Joke, a mockery of a way to refer to ppl that think they're rough & tough!
Good insight. That reminds me of the many "Alaskan" "Reality" tv shows that keep popping up. They are so fake and overdramatized for audience appeal like the Bush People. What a joke. It is kind of sad that many people watch them and think that Alaska is really like that or that the situations they are in or the people are real.

I usually wear flat caps and 8 panel newsboy hats only for funerals and when i go fishing.
Ah. Gotcha. It is definitely a diverse cap.
The crown of the model is much fuller The 8/4 hats are skimping on material and almost looks like a flat cap which I totally dislike

Sizes on the Peaky Blinders caps should be...L 59cm, XL 61cm, XXL 63 cm.

The hilarity of branding a cap after a silly show! Is it now (2023) a past fad???? Odd most were imaged as wearing bespoke high end suits with what was a working-man's cap. A cap is not a hat or vice versa. Hats have full brims, caps no brim or partials. I'd say an authentic Irish made cap 100% wool would be much better than that polyester blend nastiness.
Yes, there are many hats made of many materials. I agree a 100% wool cap is great and I have a few. Some folks want a cheaper cap and this is one way to go. Not the best, but not the worst either. Iʼve seen worse and this is not too bad.
Ye've curved the peak like a base ball hat. Ye bending it too much in the middle.
This was the curve that came with the hat. I do like a bit of a curve on the bill though. To each his own.
Those are fake..hahahahah....a real flatcap is 100% TWEED !
