Take a look at the Wonder Cadena at 13:15. He's stepping about 45 degrees from the line rather than straight back. That keeps the giros coming toward the camera. Basically when each partner does the forward ocho they are travelling directly toward the camera. Otherwise the entire sequence will start curving. At 23:46 during the Remolino demo they show how you can navigate a circular line by pivoting less with each cadena link.
