The Palace Museum: The Forbidden City and the "Maritime Silk Road" | Museum of China

This exhibition exhibited 140 pieces (sets) of cultural relics, including ceramics, paintings and calligraphy, books, jade, gold and silverware, enamelware, clocks and watches, scientific instruments, military equipment, and furniture. The sources of cultural relics are gifts from tributes and foreign missionaries. Palace procurement orders, imitations of imported works, etc.
This is the first time that the Palace Museum has exhibited its collection of cultural relics with the theme of "Maritime Silk Road", which intensively reflects the exchanges and interactions between the Ming and Qing dynasties and the outside world. The exhibition is divided into three parts: "Sailing Far Away", "West Wind Flows East" and "Interactive Participation".
"Sailing far away": It tells about the products exported by the Ming and Qing courts to outside the region through the "Maritime Silk Road". Some of them are porcelain sold by China, and the other are cultural relics exported as royal gifts.
"West Wind Glows East": Displaying cultural relics related to Western scientific knowledge, such as books, clocks and watches, medicines, etc.
"Interactive Participation": Showcasing the application of Western science and technology in the palace and the popularity of Chinese style among Western aristocrats, mainly manifested in the mutual influence of craft materials and techniques, and the exchange of shapes and decorations.
