The funny thing is that when I first heard them (99-2000 I guess?), I didn't like Slipknot at all, I was a bit too critical with that whole new wave in the end of the 90's. But I did a complete 180, and consider them one of the most important (and most fun) bands from the 2000's.
What I admire the most in slipknot is their creativity for songs.. what a freaking good melody

Too many people say old slipknot was better, before they went soft and took of their masks. The reason Slipknot wears masks is because they don't want it to be about their faces or names, but only about the music. The reason I think it was brilliant they took off the masks and the same reason I think its great Corey changes masks with every album is because it becomes to much about the masks. They don't want the band to be about anything other than there music, which is why there wearing gimmicky masks and rely on gimmicks such as vomiting on stage and the famous "UPSIDE DOWN (well, sideways)" joey jordison drum solo.
It's creative, and I used to like them, but I more or less grew out of them. Just came back too see if it's still any good to me, but the kicks just gone.

+Mega Minx First time I heard this song was when it was kicking my ass on guitar hero, back in 08 I think. A lot of bands that i liked after finding slipknot, i don't like anymore. But after 5 years I've come back to slipknot. Something i've come to really appreciate about them, is how well they composed their music. They have 9 people in their band. Yet they sound perfectly coordinated. Try listening to some other metal groups or most synthpop groups with 4-5 members and it sounds like a wall of noise.

This is objectively their “best” song. Not the heaviest, fastest, angriest, whatever else. It follows a pretty standard pop-rock song structure while still making a person want to commit property crimes. It’s THE song to introduce someone to Slipknot.

D Logic I think ya could make a valid argument for either. I think BIF edges out Duality only because some people might not care for the rap delivery of the verses in Duality; I also think the verses, sonically, aren’t as powerful as the verses in BIF: the SHOUT-speak of BIF grabs and holds the attention better. However, I think the breakdown in Duality (“All I’ve got it INSANE”), though simpler, comes across stronger than the breakdown in BIG (“My end justifies my means...”)

Im a Japanese girl. I’m not a huge fun of metal music but I love Slipknot’s music. The melody is so cool and powerful, and the lyrics are not just violent or superficial, but have meaning.

yer i hate hearing this shit from people not into heavy music, if you actually listen to enough you'll adjust and understand the style of singing. Most of the time these people are just too lazy to try a different taste in music. It's no different to listening to rap, at first it can be hard to keep up but the more you listen the more your ears and experience with the music will develop.
