My 9mm shield , 1st gen is still a favorite carry for me. Apex trigger, upgraded sights and talon grip. All the more capacity hype in the gun world has gotten people to buy, buy and buy some more. A carry gun lives its entire life in a holster with some range time every now and then. The idea that us normal citizens will end up in a shoot out where a massive number of rounds is needed is a fantasy. Can that ever occur, sure, but in all my years of carry, not one bullet has been shot, thank God. My shield is a fantastic shooter and with the 8 rounds I carry on board....good with that.

That being said, I just bought the plus. Time to retire my grandpa's revolver that has served me well for the past 30 years.

Great review. Great pistol. I bought one, standalone, shot around 500rds thru it. Loved it. So much in fact, that I bought another in the Bugout Pack. Now I have one with a TS, and one without. One with an optics cut, and one without. Great firearm. SO easily concealed, yet shoots true, and larger than it is. 200rds thru the 2nd one so far. Not a single issue with either, or the 10mags I now have lol. A Hogue grip, and a 10rd baseplate from Nimrod make it that much better. TLR6 on one fits like a glove. Highly recommend anyone looking in this class, to check this one out.

We live in wonderful times to be a gun owner! The first time I shot a Shield I thought well this is pretty damn cool, it’s a little snappy but it’s a little gun. And then I kept shooting, and kept shooting, and kept shooting and I couldn’t stand the way that trigger bent in the middle, for some reason I was hyper-sensitive to it, and it was an obvious distraction for me. So I installed an Apex trigger, problem solved. The only other thing that made me not carry it daily was my Block 26 held 13 rounds with a +2. So I said all that to say this, I cannot wait to buy this gun. I think it will probably become my EDC. And I’m a full-blown Glocktard, so that is really saying something. S&W really listened to the complaints, because they attempted to correct them all and pretty much have. Thanks for the review, I’ve been watching each one of these reviews as they pop up from the different CZcams channels and I just get more and more antsy to have one.

I bought this handgun 2 weeks ago and man SMITH@WESSON did the SHIELD right by adding the capacity to rival the HELLCAT and SIG 365. The trigger is way better and the grip is perfect for my hands. I sold the SHIELD 2.0 I had to a friend. I had TRITIUM SIGHTS on it with 4 mags and a mag holster. I hope he lives it as much as I did!!!!!

I just handled one and the new trigger design is what sells it for me other than the capacity. I don't need to update it to an Apex. It is so comfortable to use high round count sessions compared to the Glock factory trigger safety which abraids the pad of my finger after 50+ rounds. If they include this trigger in the other M&Ps I might replace my Glock 17 on my house gun while the Plus becomes my carry when an optics ready model becomes available.

I used all new ammo from American Eagle, Magtech, and Winchester. Had failures with both magazines so ruled that out. I sent it back to S&W the next day and am waiting on it to be serviced under warranty. My other S&W, an M&P 2.0, has been flawless so I'm guessing I just got a lemon.

If you purchase a firearm in between checks then they run a check on you from the date of your last check to make sure you haven't done anything in the meantime. The permit would have more than likely been pulled but this is just another safety measure.

Thanks all for the information I didn't realise purchase could be that quick. No pistols allowed in the UK. A rifle requires a firearms certificate requiring background checks and membership of a gun club or permission from land owners to shoot on their property. Depending on the county applications can take from weeks to months. Proof of secure storage is also required usually a visit by police. Ammunition is limited by the amount stated on the certificate and can be checked by a visit from police. If they think you aren't using the rifle for the stated purpose or not enough the certificate can be revoked and the rifle has to be sold. Shotguns require different paperwork.

I'm a retired engineer. You made HUGE blunder & a HUGE omission in this review:
    1. The blade on the trigger us called a DINGUS. It's purpose is 2 prevent the gun from potentially discharging when being dropped, but dropped on the REAR of the slide NOT on the MUZZLE as you stated. Watch other reviews they will corroberate what I've said. If dropped on the REAR of the slide the inertia & momentum of the trigger mass could possibly, depending upon the height of the drop, cause the trigger to keeping moving backwards towards the REAR of the gun firing it. The dingus prevents the trigger from moving backwards until it is depressed. Their is NO RISK WHATSOEVER of a gun firing when dropped on it's muzzle due to the trigger moving backwards. In fact dropping on the muzzle results in the trigger moving towards the muzzle which it can't do as its already fully forward at the time of the drop. This effect is easily demonstrable. If you rear end the car in front of you, you are thrown forward, not backwards. In this example you are the trigger & the car is the gun.
    2. On previous Shield models the frame color did NOT match the slide & its reflective properties. The polymer frame on the PLUS is ceracoated 2 match both color & sheen.
Have 2 give U BIG THUMBS DOWN on this review!
Regards & better luck on your next review!

Agreed, the issue with a dropped firearm here would be dropped on the back of the slide, where inertia could cause the trigger to move. Dropping it on the muzzle would have the opposite effect.

In 2018 I bought a brand new m&p shield performance center .40 Cal. First shot it exploded in my hand ..through the new hole in the side of barrel I could see the gun has a cast barrel. S&W would NOT warranty the gun they said it was my fault..$600 down the drain. Now I make sure my guns have a cold hammer forged barrel. Smith and Wessons guns are shit and they don't care about there customers. I'll never even consider one of the gun ever again
