I almost grew corn┃105 Day Time-lapse

- I think this was the 4th try of growing corn and i still didn't succeed. The plant started to drop its pollen 2 weeks before the corncob was ready to be pollinated. I tried storing the pollen but it looks like it didn't really work out. I should have had a few other corn plants as backup from where i could have gotten fresh pollen.
But this just means i have to try again later :)
Happy new year!

Corn needs almost black very high nitrogen soil to grow to the size we see in stores, it also needs a lot of stimulation as it's self pollinating, so putting a fan in the room works to replicate the wind. These things are generally why its best to grow rows instead of just one for optimum results. Theres also blue and desert varietals that are easier to grow and maintain as small crop.
Another fun fact: each silk/hair on that ear is attached to a single kernel inside! 🌽 😎✌️
It’s like the corn cob itself is indicating how it needs to be planted. In rows, close together, and many at a time.
Most plants need a buddy, it makes them happy.
And most plants need a specific ph to eat. If soil ph is off, the epigenetics of the plant don't toggle correctly and it will not be its best.
That's good to know. I was considering trying my hand at growing some corn this spring/summer in my garden just to see if I might be able to achieve any results. I wasn't expecting anything, but this will hopefully help me to see maybe some kind of a successful result.
@@howlingwolfart8380I've tried the last two years with mixed results, and I think my biggest issues that I'm going to try and fix next year is that I never realized how hungry corn is, so I'm going to give it a lot of extra rich soil this year and supplement it and see if that helps. I also think I'll be implementing shade cloth because it's been getting so hot these past few summers so maybe being a little cooler will make it happier.
Corn is one of those plants that dont self pollinate very well, you need multiple plants in a small area to get good cob growth. If im growing in small scale pots usually 9 plants in a square will suffice. They also wind pollinate, not via bugs.
Hail Satan@Repent-and-believe-in-Jesus1
Hail satan all my bros love satan woohoo JC ain't got nothing on my boy satan
it's very relaxing to watch how a small seed grows into a big plant. thank you❤❤
I live in rural Kansas and I'm surrounded by fields that rotate between corn, soy and milo. I love watching these plants grow. The farmer right across the road from me is so punctual that I can almost sync my watch to his fields.
What’s Milo?
@@CC3193 Milo, also called sorghum, is a silage crop.
I had the same experience trying to grow it indoors. The pollen is mostly released before it is ready to receive pollen, so planting numerous stalks near each other is crucial. Different growing rates provide the best chance for pollination from the other stalks.
Happy new year! :) Beautiful way to end this one! Hope everyone will have a wonderful evening and a great new year!
Could we get a tour of your studio one day? It would be really interesting to see how you are managing growing all these different plants for long periods of time. Thank you!
Yes i want to see if they have 50 plants in a room with a camera for each one. How do they do it?
For better pollination of corn they not only grow several plants together in one line, let's say, standing 25-35 cm from each other but also in 2 or better 3 rows. So there should be a little "forest" of corn. Great task to handle :) Thank you for being a magician of planting. I learn a lot!
The way the tassel grew is well beautiful is the only word I can think of
"I almost grew corn" Story of Summer 2023 for me! I was devastated when mine stopped growing and died!
If I can ask, how is it doing this year? If you’re planting small amounts it helps to not put in rows but in a box/square formation. If you’re growing them in something like a 4’ x 8’ raised bed, you can plant them 8” apart instead of 12”.
@@ashadowawhisper Hey thanks for asking! It's actually doing FANTASTIC! I sowed 2 rows a few months back with the kernels 12 inches apart. They've completely taken over the garden lmao. They're about 4-5 feet tall at the moment and I can see what is going to be the fruit developing! Can't wait to harvest that first ear later this summer.
I happen to work in some corn fields at summer, if I can't find any other job. The task is kinda complex at first but it's all about getting used to the habit: manual breeding. The corn plant makes the male flowers mature first and the female hair for second. So, since the wind is the main pollinating factor, the cobs are covered first to then be uncovered when it is time, so both parts are mature.
This is done because we have to do same plant breeding, putting pollen of the same plant to the same cob, because of seed replication, to maintain their purity. Normally this would be useless, for a corn field already provides the number for this process to happen naturally. However, if you only have one plant in a confined space, you have to do it yourself.
You should try the “three sisters”: corn, beans, and squash planted in the same spot, usually (but not always) in a mound. Typical method for First Nations groups such as the Anishinaabe. There are videos here on what order to plant them in. The corn and beans planted together create a full protein while each plant provides a benefit to the other 2.
Kiitos! 🌽 Looking forward to the next attempt! Hyvää uutta vuotta! 😎✌️
Well I have learnt a lot about growing corn from the comments on this video!
I love your channel-the editing and visualization is *always* amazing. But; this time I had to laugh when the camera panned back [1:38], and displayed what appeared to be "Charlie Brown's" version of a corn stalk. 😂 Great try though. Happy new year and thanks for an amazing 2023-looking forward to what's ahead in 2024. God bless.
I planted opcorn kernels and grew good sized plants. I didn’t plant them for corn. I just wanted them to be the plants that they were. I’ll do it again. 😊 🌽
Happy New Year mr boxlapse!
This really helps farmers because at least we know when corn starts to flower and when it starts to bear fruit, try eggplant, sir
We are waiting for the second part of the palm tree😊
still awesome to watch, i also read the description so i understand what happened so have no need to ask questions 🤣
🎉🎉HAPPY NEW YEAR everybody 🎉🎉
Me patiently waiting for see the corn
My neighbours grew corn in their front yard in a downtown city. It was a sight to see. I didn't think it was possible for some reason.
Cuarto (y mi primer comentario en CZcams) Hermoso el 🌽 ¡Feliz año nuevo Boxlapse!
This guy probably has the most famous set of tweezers on youtube.
I always like seeing him harvest the seeds from other fruits … missed that on this video
THANK YOU FOR THIS CHANNEL ❤
Corn is some of the most nutrient demanding crops you can possibly grow. This DEFINITELY needed fertilizers added as it grew. Also, the corn stalks get pollinated primarily by wind making the pollen fall on the corn silk. If you’re indoors, there’s minimal air flow, pollinate it by hand in that case.
What a beauty 💕
the same thing happened to me last year. i grew a stalk of corn, producing only the tiniest nobs of corn hahah.
It’s okay if it’s not perfect.
You did really well
Did the cobs have any viable kernels? You could try replanting, if so. Try soil left over from growing beans, or a lucerne-heavy compost. Both will be enriched in nitrogen, an essential nutrient for the successful growth of grasses like maize and sorghum.
I grew corn last summer. I was able to get about 8 airs of actual edible corn. The other didn't silk correctly and were inedible. They didn't pollinate much, so they were only about the size of a Roku remote lol I'm going to try again this summer 🙏🏾🙏🏾
I love seeing all these people in the comments trying to figure out why the corn was so small some of you know why
With low quantities of corn plants you have to hand pollinate them to harvest anything really.
How do I hand pollinate
I consider myself knowledgeable in corn and was about to leave a comment, but what I have to say has already been said by some others here.
In Mexico land is set on fire before planting, it is said this brings nitrogen into the soil
Wouah !
Titi :)
here before this blows up
You have to hand pollinate the silks.... you have no wind inside that will do that function
Wow i love watching corn
So cute! Did you try some or is it feed corn?
Congratulations : you got a “baby corn”
Bro can you share the detail of soil and water you give to plants so we can benefit from it
Extra Nice 🌽
Subhanallah! Allah eşsiz bir sanatçı 👏
To grow corn U need to place many other corps near him. It is Group plant, i also tried to grow it but it never gived me The yellow fruit
Needs more fertilizer and probably more light too
I felt this squirrels got mine
Corn needs more plants around it to pollinate properly. In thos closed environment there is not enough wind to simulate the outside world.
hi, I'm your subscriber, I really want to see the continuation of the white or yellow pitahaya🥺
Corn is a type of grass
You did it
Do a cashew tree timelapse please!
Well corn is also very hard to grow! I also tried but failed
You tried your best, research more and i’m sure you will get a lot of corn ready to eat!
Corn likes to have full bright sunlight. I thought that's why the cobs were small, but the comments indicate that it was lonely, too. You can still eat those little corn's. I bet you'll find them delicious.
Any update on the Date palm?
You need to hand-pollinate the corn strands so we can see the kernels develop inside the husks! 🤨🤦🏻♂️
Corn is hard to grow because you need multiple plants that can cross pollinate each other
“I almost grew corn” - I knew I was among my people. 🤷🏼♀️
Aaaawww.... mini corns 👍😎✊
Corn need Fertilizer for grow and Fruitful
I see the field corn in Iowa. The outer rows that weren’t fertilized are scrawny.
❤❤❤
Pls Macadamian Nut Time Lapse🌰❤
what soil do you use? like what brand
My First video of 2024 !!
Maybe it's just me, but this should be set this to music by Korn
Show me your all plant collection pls and professional plant grower
Please do part two of the palm tree😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Corn is very difficult to get to thrive in a pot.
EU PLANTEI O MILHO CRIADO❤🌽🌾
EU ADOREI O MILHO 🌽🌽🌽
You need multiple corn stalks to fertilize each other. Next time make a video of two or three plants.
What happened though? It was going so well 🥲
Read the description ;-)
The size of that corn looks familiar 😢
Lmao
I think u was suppose to cut to top hairs off (male) and rub them on the side hairs (female Corn)
Please please please please please please please grow sugarcane in pot
FROM THE EARTH I RISE AND TO THE EARTH I ONE DAY WILL RETURN-
6:10pm 7/10/24
👍👍👍👍
You didn't grow corn because you didn't ask Monsanto first. You gotta show respect before they let you grow their GMO crops
😅 Uffda! But sorta true..... 😎✌️
What are your thoughts on plants having feelings or being able to think/perceive the world around them?
Faltou outra planta. Uma planta não poliniza a si mesmo 🧐🧐🧐
Jonathan Davis?
Нужно что бы было несколько растений кукурузы и имитировать ветер что бы получить нормальный урожай
Try planting a pole bean and squash seed with it next time. The bean will provide nitrogen for the corn, the corn will provide structure for the bean to climb, and the squash's wide leaves will provide shade to hold moisture in the soil. Native Americans called this method of farming the Three Sisters.
This video shows how to best do it. czcams.com/video/kRLANoPbs1o/video.html
The beans don't provide nitrogen to the soil immediately like you think. Instead of harvesting them, you need to let the beans (or at the very least some of its roots) decompose in the ground, to be available as nitrogen for next season.
I'm getting my vegetables today 😩😫
GMO corn needs a lot of fertilizer? No way.

Today I ate corn
That result was because the silk wasn't pollinated.
almost like you read the description 🤣
Yiur corn dint get pollen
I just spent 2 minutes watching corn.
this is again an example that shows that not everyone is perfect, not even the timelpase guy who seemingly can grow any plant successfully. never give up and keep trying

Idk man, that corn seemed average size to me. Ain't nothing wrong with average corn.
baby corn lol
Sir, Im sorry, but this is not 'almost'. Its an actual corn!
