    I've been making my own tiles and walls with XPS foam and magnets recently and have spent many hours on them so far. Not done yet because I constantly get new ideas while creating them and get carried away in making them way too modular and detailed... as much as I love making my own terrain I think I will pick up a few of these up just so I have some terrain to play with right now. I have friends and family constantly asking me when will our new game start. Looks like I have an answer now.

    I love this! Practical, adaptable, versatile, easy to use. My first concern was the connecting pins breaking, but you put my mind to ease with your demonstation. The fact that they are already future expansions on the way, and that they look very ineresting, and will build upon the basic set, makes it worthwile for the DM in me to invest in something like this. Thank you very much for this review.

    Thanks for showing several of my Thingiverse designs available for free in your video. I have had over 20,000 downloads easily over time (most likely closer to 50,000) and they are compatible with the adapters as you showed. Not worth the price point for the WarLock tiles. Get a 3-D printer and do your own tiles for 1/5 the cost. I looked at Warlock Tiles and then realized that what I had already printed was $3000 in WarLock Tile cost. My cost - less than $500. If I wanted to I could get them for free. I can sell everything I print for a profit margin of 200%. So technically I could get my tiles for free. As I also stated previously, I design my own tiles in a relative quick amount of time so I also get the adaptability to design what I need using free software that is easy to learn.

    • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey hey. Yeah, and the nice thing is that the printed tiles are compatible with these as well. Printing is a time consuming project, not to mention painting. So Warlock Tiles and the like are a nice option for those who want something ready to hit the table. But the 3D terrain community is amazing, so that’s a great option to explore as well. -Theo

    I can't wait to see the video on the other set, I have been wanting a cool cheap town tile set.
    I hope your fund raiser for pride month goes well,sounds like a good cause, kids should not have to worry about being made to feel different because of who they are. Kids can be extremely cruel to each other , hopefully the ones that bully others grow up to realize the hurt they caused others ( though many times it's because they were victimized themselves so they look for a way to strike out or fit in so it doesn't happen to them again it's still not a valid reason). Personally even being a straight white kid I had several people try to pick on me in jr.high / freshman year of HS but I was a tuff farm boy and that didn't last more than a fight or two to convince them not to screw with me.

    I wouldn't say best most affordable way to get into dungeon terrain (as three sets in to make an actual dungeon that's more than a room or two and could be played for a session) cost wise you'd be able to buy your own printer like an entry level Ender and afford the files + filament to make boxes and boxes of this quality stuff or better. The real tragedy here though is the beautiful showcase of Dungeonlock's website and some of their best work but then when it came to Openlock you flashed the Printable Scenery site but then swapped to Thingiverse for pictures of what Openlock offers.. which are great... but I think anyone who sees PS's site compared to Thingiverse you can tell there's a substantial amount of detail and fine-tuning that goes on to make those files look how amazing they do. Entertaining video and appreciate you covering this side of the market, that was my only gripe was Openlock deserved a much better showcase of what's out there :) best wishes

    • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  Před 4 lety

      Theo may have more to say but I wanted to jump in and apologize about OpenLOCK. I’m the one who recorded the websites for the video and for whatever reason I just could not figure out how to navigate the site at first, so I couldn’t find the pages that showed their products (and yes looking at it now it’s completely obvious and sadly as simple as pressing the home button). Then Theo was like “oh they’re open source” and I was like “cool, showing Thingiverse will convey that competitive advantage” and the rest is history. I’ll see if there’s a chance to fit in a better clip for OpenLOCK in one of our subsequent videos. Thanks for pointing out my mistake! -Grady

    Thank you for putting together several example setups! I can't wait to get my hands on these so I can see for myself what the best way to approach a dungeon/village design would be. It just surprises me that there are so few 'interior' doors, when I figured that would be the main strategy for construction (so many interior walls). It also does bother me a bit that the interior doors don't function. Keeping track of which doors are opened/closed, at least for me, is a pretty big deal. Still, I am very excited for these to hit store shelves.

    • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah, it's a shame they don't function and that there aren't more of them, but there is an entire doors expansion pack coming, so you'll have plenty of options. You could remove the door tile entirely to indicate the door is open and replace it when the door is closed again... -Theo

    • @RickKoeppen
      @RickKoeppen Před 4 lety

    So as someone who swears by Dwarven Forge, when I saw this pop up and heard "affordable", I was pretty intrigued. But between the locking system (which can be ignored), and how wonky they can get with the varied interior/exterior walls, and then hearing the base set is basically 100 bucks each? Hell no. I'm pretty sure unpainted Dwarven Forge is still cheaper; BUT, what I will say is that the expansion sets (like the stairs and LED lit platform pieces) seem like they'd be worth picking up.

      @TheGallantGoblin  Před 4 lety

      Generally I have some idea of where encounters are likely to occur in my upcoming session, so I pre-build a room and have it ready to drop down on the table when it's time. I don't usually build out an entire dungeon or anything. Sometimes if it's a major location and I have the terrain to build it and make it look cool, I might do that for my players even if no battle occurs there. @TheGallantGoblin  Před 4 lety

      So yeah, I have a closet full of minis. They're stored in little baggies which are then stored in plastic bins. So, for example, I have one bin that's just "Good Aligned Dragons" and one that's "Evil Aligned Dragons." Those take up a bin all by themselves. Then I have a box that's "Common Monsters" with bags inside for goblins, gnolls, orcs, trolls, etc. I use a little label maker to keep things neat. It's a whole system, with lots of different bins, categories, and sub categories. I don't know if it's any better than anyone else's system, but if enough folks are interested, I can certainly make a video about it. On the plus side, it's usually not too hard to find any particular mini, so I guess it's working for me. -Theo

    I’m curious for people who use these how you plan this out. My players tend to leave one dungeon and head to a completely different one. We played lost mines and they’d just peace out and head someplace else. I’d be worried I prepped dungeon A and they’d get half in and decide to leave and go to B.

    • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  Před 4 lety +1

      There's not too much you can do in those situations, but it's not generally possible to build out an entire dungeon in one go anyway (that would require a lot of pieces for most dungeons), so there's a few options to keep things looser and more flexible. One is keeping the pieces separate instead of clipped together so you can take apart tiles and rearrange them on the fly. Call a snack break and build out the new rooms you need-it doesn't usually take too much longer than drawing it out on graph paper if you're not putting in too much dungeon dressing. Another option is to have some generic rooms pre-built that you can bring in and out as needed to stand in for commonly used areas or hallways. A third option is to use 2D maps for most rooms and save the pre-built tile rooms for the big encounters like the final boss fight or something. You still may not get to use it, but at least you're not spending a ton of time building out an entire floor and then having to take that apart. -Grady

    or take out cause your fingers hurt (after a few pieces).I can almost
    guarantee that after a few years of pulling and pushing this stuff back
    together it will all begin to break.I must be doing it wrong or this

      brian smith They are releasing a different set of clips that will be much easier to use - they just snap on. The only minus of those ones is that the set won’t be strong enough for you to carry your build around between rooms. However, they will be great for keeping everything together while already on the gaming table.

    Hi Theo - wanted to throw out a tip for a future video. Battlesystems Terrain are imminently releasing a huge range of fantasy terrain (and their Kickstarter to fund development from last year is also about to deliver to backers this month, in theory). The kicker on this brand is, its all modular card, so very much more affordable, but still a premium quality product (not affiliated, merely a fan!) Link to their kickstarter as has useful videos and contact details, however this is all going to retail, absolutely not a KS exclusive range.
