Reminds me of an episode of scrubs, a homeless man came into the hospital but he had a terminal illness, he knew he was dying before he ever came in and all he asks is for a place to sleep that night. Later when what he has is killing him and it's painful and he's suffering, one of the doctors tries to give him pain meds and he says something to the effect of "I don't want them, if I died painlessly no one would have a reason to remember me" So he insists on dying in pain so that people will remember him in the end.
Oh Perfect Vermin was cool. I just realized the games about things being out of place and seeming multiplied. a chair that looks normal but is where it shouldn't be, like cancerous cells multiplying
And the sledge hammer being able to destroy both normal and abnormal objects could be analogous to chemo and surgery or other radical cancer therapies. Which is why it's important to destroy as few normal objects as possible, but sometimes you have to just to get to the abnormal ones.

You play as a cancer treatment, that is why you wreck everything. over the entire span of the game you keep seeing "no smoking" signs. Also, every time it cuts to the news guy the ashtray becomes fuller.
I figured out the twist in Perfect Vermin about halfway through and had to just sit there for a minute before continuing to watch the rest. That's a depressing concept. But at least he's choosing to make the rest of his life mean something.

The gameplay of going into an office building and strategically destroying living tissue is him smoking cigarettes to destroy his organs. Each new life is a new cigarette, with him getting more upset that the last one didn't do the job. It's presented as some sort of fantasy or nightmare based on his life experiences on reporting news, specifically that office massacre downtown. His body turns more into just a blob of cancer cells in this fantasy, as the pile of cigarettes in the ashtray grows larger. The dialogue is sparse, but it gives a really detailed look into what the mind of a 40-50-something man developing cancer might be like. From anger to resentment to apologizing to eventually denial. In the end he seems to have accepted that he's going to die but wants to be remembered for his career, in defiance of going out the exact same way his Mother did. He's just so scared of being like her that he doesn't even want to acknowledge his cancer.

I don't mean to sprinkle my downer flakes in the comments but Christ, Perfect Vermin was a tough watch. I just learned this morning that my aunt died of lung cancer. We weren't close, not close as I wanted to be anyway, but for a little part of the world you know to just vanish overnight is a feeling that's hard to describe. My heart goes out to anyone fighting through that thing and to all from whom it's stolen.
My heart goes out to you and anyone else whose lost a loved one to cancer. I lost my aunt to gastrointestinal cancer back in February and the pain still comes and goes like waves. Perfect Vermin was an absolute punch to the gut.

My father didn't even have a chance to be with him at his end.

We think she caught COVID, and that it had probably been the nail in the coffin for her.... My dad had felt awful, it was a week before he was gonna go visit his parents when she passed. I handle death and grief weirdly, so it's not like it shattered me, but I did love her a lot and seeing how stressed it made my parents was awful. To be fair, though, she hardly could do anything. It's sad but... Pepere believed that she'd been ready for a while. We all just hope she was at peace by the end...
That first game remind me of when I got locked in a hotel room while on vacation as a kid, and my Mom went to go get help and didn't realise the lights turned off if you took the key card. Honestly horrifying.

the open house has so much potential, with the idea that it is a real-time 3D render of a real house no different to google maps street view there could be so many batshit insane scenes you could come up with, like a secret cult or a murder, they did use the potential pretty alright but I feel as if they did not expand on that aspect that much, just making it extremely subtle and not too on the nose would help it even more.
Rewatching these is intresting, particularly if you didnt see them before, some games are like death flush, but some like burger and frights or perfect vermin just have so much care and love, and creativity placed into them, just cool
It won one of my favorite games of the night simply for doing so much with so little. It seemed like they didn’t have anyone to make original 3D assets or drawings for them, but they ended up with something surprisingly decent with all or mostly stock assets.

Holy fuck I was not prepared for the turn that Perfect Vermin took. Good to be confronted with that pure undistilled real possibility once in a while but damn.
Jeez. I appreciate that people want to express themselves and their worries through game design. Probably helps them cope or move on. But Perfect Vermin was really painful. It's not a huge deal, but, dang what a downer twist. Surprise reveals are a great storytelling tool; a sucker-punch of powerful emotion, capable of slipping past viewer defenses to hit full-force. I don't think writers realize they're sucker-punching the bereaved. I've spent the last few years trying to toughen up, but this kind of "gotcha" moment still registers about a 6/10 on the pain scale. Just felt like talking about it. Anyway, Death Flush ruled.

He actually reminded me of a bunch of things including Candyman, Freddy Krueger, Groucho Marx and, probably more on the money, Walter Sullivan. This whole game seems inspired by Silent Hill 4: The Room, especially that last fight, but also just the characters all being stuck in an apartment and having to travel to a nightmarish world, in this case filled with toilets.

Jeez. I appreciate that people want to express themselves and their worries through game design. Probably helps them cope or move on. But Perfect Vermin was really painful. It's not a huge deal, but, dang what a downer twist.
Surprise reveals are a great storytelling tool; a sucker-punch of powerful emotion, capable of slipping past viewer defenses to hit full-force. I don't think writers realize they're sucker-punching the bereaved. I've spent the last few years trying to toughen up, but this kind of "gotcha" moment still registers about a 6/10 on the pain scale.
Just felt like talking about it. Anyway, Death Flush ruled.

@@pravda9646 Neither. It's a genuine reaction that I don't think the game's author would fully understand. Or maybe they're working through their own problems in a very clumsy way that accidentally brings other people down.

Having a cig and a coffee on the balcony while watching Vinny play Perfect Vermin is a serene experience, made slightly less so by the cancer analogy that game makes

I love the death flush female video game character gag, where when a female character gets hurt, she is jokingly said to be moaning. Cuz in death flush it’s is obviously made to sound like a moan and it cracks me up that they thought about that
The house used in the third game is a variation of the House Party house I swear.
The villain of Death Flush is a lot like Freddy Krueger.
I think the creator of the game was going for that, with the whole resurrection thing, and having limits to where he can attack his victims.

He actually reminded me of a bunch of things including Candyman, Freddy Krueger, Groucho Marx and, probably more on the money, Walter Sullivan. This whole game seems inspired by Silent Hill 4: The Room, especially that last fight, but also just the characters all being stuck in an apartment and having to travel to a nightmarish world, in this case filled with toilets.
