When I was 18 I had a 93 Civic coupe DX (my first car) some non-SRT4 Neon challenged me to a race. I told him I’ve never raced before. He beat me good lol I didn’t even know how to launch it!!! Hahaha so this brings back memories
As a Civic owner snd lover, yeah these things are slow. I never understood why people were so obsessed with drag racing in Hondas. All you've got to do is drive a Saturn and feel the unbridled power of the mighty 1.9 to know that, yeah, even really lame cars are way more powerful than a USDM Civic. A first gen DOHC Neon is like a fuel dragster compared to any D-series Civic, and only 10 horse short of the great legendary EM1 Civic Si (but with way more torque).

The K swap is super impressive but it is an engine swap, so right away that's a project car. If you're building a project car and driving something else for months while that's being assembled, sure, go for a K-powered Honda. But when these cars were reasonably new, most people were dailying it and adding some performance here and there as they went along, and the Saturn is just better at that than the a D-series Honda. All of them were D-series, zero of them had turbos. A Saturn with similar mods would have been the fastest of the group, God forbid a Neon or a Miata. Saturns break down, you never see them anymore, they make decent torque the sc2 with bolt ons and 5spd is a good competitor to an integra ls, probably not a gsr tho

Something y'all need to understand is 1. The SRT is turbo the Honda is not. 2 The SRT has more displacement than the Honda. Really the only thing the Honda has going it is weight but even then it's a SI Hatch so it's not to much lighter. Now if the Civic was boosted and tuned right that SRT woulda got busses put on him. Trust me I've owned a SRT. It's not that fast they really just sound good that's it. Fukn Muvn has been trying to get our SRT to break the SRT world record and out of a year and 3 built stroker motors we've only got 1 9 second pass. See where there's plenty of Hondas in the 8s and 9s even the 7s.

I've raced built b20 and turbo b20 hondas on 15 psi and that's it and the only that gave me a challenge was the turbo honda and ge was on slicks
