Nestled in Nevada City, CA in the Sierra Nevada Mountains is the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum. Founded in 2003, this fascinating museum is dedicated to the preservation of one of California’s most famous narrow gauge railroads, the Nevada County Narrow Gauge, which ran from 1876 until its abandonment in 1942.
A variety of narrow gauge equipment can be seen operating up and down the museum’s line out of the Nevada City depot, including Railbus 97 “Donna Jeanne”, and privately owned Antelope and Western Porter 0-4-0T 1. The crown jewel of the collection is newly restored NCNG 5, an 1875 Baldwin 2-6-0, making its first public runs in Nevada City following its debut at the Great Western Steam Up in July 2022.
In addition to NCNG rolling stock, there is also equipment from the West Side Lumber and Southern Pacific to help interpret the story of 3-foot gauge railroading and the importance it once had in the state of California. Most impressive is the line back up to the museum, which reaches 7% just before the Nevada City Depot. You will find the volunteers at the museum to be a dedicated, passionate group of people, making amazing things happen at this gem in the Sierra Foothills.

How much track do they have? The equipment is very cool but it doesn’t look like they get to run it much.
Maybe 100 yards? They old line was ripped up in the 40s and used to run to Colfax where they switched with the SP
It’s now about a mile’s worth of track
Now all they need is a couple of passenger coaches to carry more people.

Alright, how come no one ever told me about this place.
Hope one day to see this since I live in California too. I am really looking forward to seeing these three train rides later this month. First the Black River & Western Railroad located in Ringoes, New Jersey, Then the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad located in New Hope and Ivyland, Pennsylvania, and the Strasburg Railroad located in Strasburg, Pennsylvania. For their Day out with Thomas event that you probably already know this by me.

Why doesn’t 5 have the knuckles installed in her couplers?
Probably because it didn’t have to pull anything.
@@DynamoProductions-trains huh. Could it by chance still be under testing? My thinking is due to the unpainted or orange trucks on the tender.
The 5 has knuckle couplers, as can clearly be seen at the 2 minute mark, this was the engine's first run for the general public following the Great Western Steam Up in Carson City, NV in July of 2022, as was stated in the description for the video

#5 isn't as pretty as her Glenbrook sister.
The 5 wasnt meant to be restored to the time period that the Glenbrook represents, and personally speaking, the extra appliances given to her when she was modernized, give her a lot more of a presence when under stream, the 5 hisses and pants at rest, the Glenbrook on the hand, just quietly relaxes.
