    Moral of the story, check your oil before you fire up the engine. The rods sound like they are beating the heck out of the bearings. IF your truck makes a rattle.TURN it Off . That sounds like 50k miles of wear in 50 seconds
    pro tip: see if you can turn the engine by hand if its been sunk. otherwise you risk bending rods, valves, or having the bottom end exiting via the pan.
    Life is for learning, Several flushes will not be needed. That man just needs an oil change. We all just learned to keep a sealable drain pain and a jug of oil on us when we know were going to encounter water. (Along with a rhino rholl up tool kit of course)

    New wranglers have the auto e-brake that engages as soon as a door is opened. You have to put the transfer case in Neutral and turn key off to avoid that problem. Total pain when towing or opening the door to see better. Great job on recovery. Keep up the great content.

    Just found your channel a day or 2 ago and love it, have learned so much about recovery, I would dare say I’ve learned more about snatchblocks and the ins and outs of wenching in the past day than months of watching Matt’s off road with all respect to him. Just got my first wench for my JL can’t wait to use what I’ve learned here one day! Also I’m in South Georgia if you need a hand with some northern recoveries!

    If shackles are unavailable for connecting 2 lines place a strong dowel or intermediate item between the center of the knot. It will make it easy to remove after the job is complete. That way you don’t have to cut it after use.

    As always great documentation of a recovery. The new JLs and JTs have an all electronic transmission and will Autopark when it thinks it should be in park. When he was trying to put it in neutral under the cover I was trying to yell through the screen. He was so close. There is an orange loop to pull towards the drivers side to put it in neutral. You don’t even move the shifter.

    Yea Richloam is pretty wet. We got a motorcycle stuck out there one time 3 grown men couldn’t get it loose for about 30 minutes. So glad to see a big 4x4 come around the corner to extract it for us. The rear wheel was frozen because of the mud. We poured swamp water on it till it freed up. Oh and watch the alligators and snakes out there. Buddy of mine ran over one that was submerged, didn’t seem to hurt it, but it surprised me because it popped up right in front of me.

So... first year with a winch on my JLU... and I'm learning as much as I can from channels like yours. ATM I have a tree saver and 3/4" D-rings from Rhino USA.... kinetic rope from Rugged Ridge... tow strap from TGL... 10K Warn winch with synthetic rope. I'm part of a local rescue FB group. As a current long time military vehicle recovery operator.you should've ran a 2 to 1 if you have enough on your winch.better to run over than under even under easy conditions.i agree with you that winching is always better option.you should use your genetic rope to tow vehicle away from the disabled area.with a disabled vehicle like this in water.try to start getting the exhaust out of the waterfirst thing then maybe you can get lucky that it comes out under its own power.thats usually what we do in the military

    Not sure if you noticed the Neutrol was flashing. it was still in autopark. Glad you got it started but you really had to pull that strap under the shifter. I recomend you practce how to force Neurtrol in your drive way engine off.

  • @solidasapeachoffroad4005

    This is why I preach to get familiar with your vehicles before using them. Everything on the new jeeps are electric including the transmission so if it's not running or thinks it has an issue it will automatically engage park no matter what positin the gear shift is in. There is a neutral override in all of them for towing purposes on this jeep I believe it's under the steering column and it will have an orange pull cord. Just a learning experience for the next one.

    ANYONE READING THIS; water gets into engine thru intake when running and exhaust when off. Don’t turn it off if it’s running. A $1k tow is cheaper than his $6k engine; This engine was knocking. It’s hydro locked definitely and totally screwed most likely.

    • @4x4rescue74
      @4x4rescue74  Před 2 lety +6

      Yeah try to avoid deep water holes if you don’t have snorkel. The camera audio made the tick sound worse than it was. The knocking was the intake lid flopping around. It definitely had a tick to it tho.

Thanks again for always helping explain the situation and recovery options. Sucks his Jeep took on so much water he was having a good ole time obviously,, motor milkshakes theses days cost 200$ bucks to flush one good. Maybe more with prices of oil and such..
    Even when you think it’s flushed good, go one more time with good oil and filter to be safe, crank bearings hate even a spec of sand. Keep rocking man your my first call when I’m stranded again!

Nice of you to rescue this guy. I get to do a few every year on the path to 4x4 beach, last was a fwd mini van, no business to be where he was...
