Quite the divisive pair of pedals it seems!
Honestly I’m really happy with the sound of them. I do agree, when JM shouts about gear EVERYONE gets it.
For what it’s worth, I was late to the hype train, and also it was Pete that showed me these. Once trying I had to get some. But that’s because I could hear how they’d benefit the sounds I go for. But also in the studio recording.
I remember when we were recording the Toska album, and there were a few tones I really had to fight for, and even then, I wasn’t happy whole heartedly. It became a post production thing to get the tone and I was really unhappy about that. So in this instance, these pedals probably would’ve saved it.
It’s simply a pair of pedals that enhance any tone you get. It’s like the magnify the detail musically, which I love! Especially for some of the tones I like to create.
Also just to say, this isn’t a sponsored video if anyone is sceptical or dubious on that front. I just get excited about tones and the things I know I’ll benefit from In my tones!
As always, thanks for checking out the video!
Can I just rachet the row up (;) by saying there's more to them than a simple EQ and Buffer - I read the review by that nice Harp lady - diametrically opposite, musically* to 'Bea. I was impressed!
Look, examine your circumstances with Pedal Cost. Do you really need it? Will your audience care about it? If recording does the studio have something that may do the same thing?
If you are sitting at home, are not in a Band etc., you may be better off buying something else or spending it on something else. Use your judgement. Everyone has been in this position even, 'Bea.
Finally do not shoot the messenger! Pete. *Acoustic / Electric
Nice. I love pieces of gear that are designed to solve problems, and these seem really well designed. Thanks for the run through!
Just here to brighten up the comments. I absolutely love what they do for your tone.
Probably won’t be something I will be getting anytime soon, but I’m so happy that you have the chance to pick something like this up for yourself and just share your thoughts about. Your almost child-like excitement about tone is what has pushed me back into really trying to search for tones that inspire me. So thanks a lot man. Really looking forward to what you continue to do.
Great demo Bea. You are definitely on top of things.
Perfect length video. Really love these reviews.
i feel like this demo helped me finally understand more of what these are for, and i love what it sounds like they’re doing! seems super useful. that said, close to $600 is a lot to drop on an input / output conditioner for the average non-pro musician.
Shut up and take my money! Such great tone! Thanks for sharing Rabea. You are definitely my favorite guitar player and you've inspired me to pick up my guitar every single day! Much love mate!
Way to go pal, you’ve gone and made me buy more pedals.
First it was the Dark Glass Hyper Luminal now it’s a pair of these beauties.
Hope you’re doing well, bless you sir.
Would recommend for anyone who doesn’t get what these do to join the Believable Audio Discord server! I had a few questions and talked with the head there, which was nice just as a consumer interacting with the company, but also I got a more in depth explanation to questions that I had. I have a bit of an engineering background and technical knowledge, so these pedals (especially EUNA) appealed to me, as I have a big board that would benefit from a real high quality buffer. While these are for sure not for everyone, and in all honesty not for most people, a certain person would really benefit from these. Very subtle, but powerful pedals I’d say. Great video Bea!!!
There is a definite honesty about these pedals and a refreshing lack of repetitious industry gimmickry. I want them in my rig!
I don’t think I’ve ever walked into my studio and left everything the way I had it the night before-even if the night before I was sure I had finally achieved the sound I was looking for in my head. Inevitably I’m twisting knobs and changing the combinations of pedals. I’m not sure I’m the target market for these pedals, but conceptually, having two pedals that allow me to shape the dynamics, tone, and response of my guitar in ways that are both creative and intuitive? Yes please.
19:15 thats just perfect to me. Nice demo!
I suppose I've seen fancier buffers going for about that rate but without the EQ. The harmonics option is an interesting take too. I definitely see the benefit in say driving the low end into certain pedals in the EUNA's loop (maybe a brighter OD that has a specific feel) then adding brightness back in with the OAMP ala tape machine pre-emphasis curves. Cool products, really great demo!
Love my Euna!
Electrolytic caps are similar to lead acid batteries. It's a polarized cap with liquids or gels inside with a pure aluminum anode and the oxidization of the metal creates its own cathode creating the ability to store a small charge that can almost instantly dump the full capacity. Been learning lately about DC components. The more ya know!
It's like removing a wet blanket from the cabinet. At first the sound is fine, then you turn it on and it comes to life. But when you turn it off, it just feels dull until you put it back on. Immense pedal!
The Euna is a set and forget up front (or anywhere - doesn’t have to be first in the chain, and nor does the Oamp have to be at the end). The EQ tweaks are useful if you’re changing guitars, and you can put your fuzz in the loop. The Oamp is handy for dialling in different guitars and especially different amps (e.g. if you have to use someone else’s back line). They are both excellent “more better” pedals if you’re into cleans / clean-ish / low gain. The impact is more pronounced than a normal buffer and, for want of a better word, more “hi-if” or pristine than other “more-better” pedals that I use, like the Thorpy Fat General (which I love), Chase Secret Preamp, Jackson Prism etc etc etc. As Bea said, it doesn’t gain up your tone, just makes it more 3-D. You probably don’t need both of them, and it would be good if the Oamp had two outs for stereo or a wet/dry rig. Overall, I’d say they’re in the camp of when you turn them off, “Where the hell did my tone go”. Not essential, but definitely nice to have with long cable runs and using a range of amps.
hi Rabea, very thanks for your always objective and very inspiring demos, I just wanted to say that it seems to me that the buffers are made for guitars that do not have treble correction on the pots of the guitar, all the the purpose of the buffer is not to lose treble on the drop in volume on a guitar as they were originally in the 60's, no one has ever made a demo with a guitar like the original, it would be really interesting to see a demo with the pots of the volume simply. thank you again and long live the music!
Really really cool
An adjustable buffer/EQ and a preamp, respectively. Got it. I wish audiophiles and audio companies would cut the bullshit on product descriptions and just tell us what things do
I just picked up the EUNA. I love what it does and it really is that missing piece of tone I’ve been searching for. Really worried I won’t ever to be able to play without it
You should try them out on bass too. I reckon that extra top end would really bring out the finger/ pick attack without making it shrill and harsh, especially heavily distorted
Nothing like a video on buffer style pedals to bring out the dregs of the guitar community... Good job Bea, i would definitely have a pair if i ran a larger board
The bright switch makes the neck pickup of the Fender sound great(er)
Can definitely hear the difference with the pedals engaged, though some observations. Without knowing anything about how they work, on the face of it like others have said, it sounds just like a buff plus eq. I even wonder if something like the EP or RC from Xotic would have similar effect on the tone. In regards to the loops, the one in the Oamp seems kinda pointless if you have other things on in the chain before it. The loop on the Euna at the start of the chain, I can see how that could benefit, but the Oamp, not so much. But to each their own, and if they suit your needs, all power to ya!
I have an Empress Buffer + and a Drybell Unit 67 compressor, which has an EQ. Id recommend these two pedals over this in order to achieve the same result. They are smaller.
How is this better than a boss ge7 (buffered eq) or similar?
It's even more apparent how great EUNA is with more pedals and longer cable runs (plus actually being in the room with it). I was really sceptical, managed to pick one up used a few weeks ago and am super impressed.
Just got the EUNA over the holidays and wow… It’s a magic pedal. Improvement in tone even when it’s bypassed.
They sound great. Quick question have you ever tried the BBE sonic maximizer pedal? I got one today and it's fantastic, it kind of does a similar thing to the 29 pedals. As soon as I plugged it in, it was like a blanket was lifted off my cabinet. Everything was so much clearer and punchy.
It’s amazing! Bought one earlier this year
7:12 OFF
7:16 ON (no filters)
7:39 HARMONICS ON
9:32 BASS ON
10:00 BASS & BRIGHT ON
I feel I get a lot of enough of what I'd want these two pedals for with just my Cusack More Louder boost which boosts and fill things in a bit, has a switchable buffer, and uses 1/10 of the space for a hundred bucks. That and a tweak or two of the amp controls and I can dial in what I'm looking for. But I can see how for those with unlimited budgets and pedalboard space these two fairy dust makers are must haves.
What's your approach to pickup height Rabea? Lately I'm discovering for myself that lower is better.
Harm's Way army is there 🤘
Does the EUNA make sense for a Helix? I guess the question is, has Line 6 modeled the signal loss between pedals and cables? If not I’m wondering if it’s a useful tool for me. Sounds great!
That sounds like a tool for the studio, i like the idea that you can just throw everything you like on your board and tweak the individual sounds with a few switches instead of messing with your basic amp-sound for individual drives or whatever. Btw...massive fuzztone!!!
The creator says these are specifically tools for live, and not really for the studio. It's super easy to do all this in-post in the studio, or to have a very expensive (and large) EQ (and someone to engineer it) which isn't practical for a gig.
Hi Rab ! i don't understand how you setup your pedalboard ? why did you use the send/return of EUNA & Opamp ? Take care
Wow, such a massive improvement in tone. I mean it totally sucked before. And that for such a low price and they don’t need much space on your board either. Incredible! You have to use gold cables though, or else it’s pointless.
😏
Not gonna lie, this made me chuckle.
Hahaha I mean, there’s definitely a market for this gear. Would I say it’s a vital component…? Not in my opinion. However, the more intense your signal chain gets, the more it’s appreciated being there. It has definitely improved some tones on my board, particularly tones where things can get very muddy, wether it be with fuzz or lots of ambience. So far I’ve found some great results. But yeah, I totally appreciate that they’re not for everyone.
In a world where some people are willing to pay 200 bucks for audiophile-grade fuses, these pedals’ prices seem pretty reasonable! Haha
@@nicolashauss4075 „audiophile-grade fuses“ 😂
Could you get the Same effect from a boost and/eq?
I agree that buffers are necessary and having an input and output buffer literally saved my tone, but when something is marketed with audiophiles in mind, really puts me off.
"...when something is marketed with audiophiles in mind, really puts me off" Thanks for putting this feeling into words
i read the paint is infused with essential oils of the snake variety
Nice pedal and nice playing as always!
Might kick the Wampler Psychosomatic Drive off the board! Jokes aside I agree with some others a buffer eq pedal can do the same if not more? Seems like your rly dig it tho so im not gona judge, whatever gives you the drive to play is worth the price of admission imo.
This Video actually made me listen to some John Mayer on CZcams ! He plays Guitar.
Bea as you have shown you can great tones without these fine tuning type pedals (very pricey) - you had to darken your sound before you started so is it really needed. My Boss ES8 has buffers in & out and I have a Harlow pedal which makes everything sound better when on and dialed.
id love to see how theese pedals go against say a boss eq-200. to me they just seem like pre-set equalizers
Alright, well I'm definitely not the target market for these, I don't have the pedalboard space for starters, but then I'm certainly no John Mayer. Like others have said it does sort of seem like something you could just achieve with some amp tweaks or an EQ pedal, but if you're a professional and want even more tweaking to the nth degree then sure, why not.
EDIT: I've just noticed that chonker of a monitor on your desk Rabea :D Are they Neumann KH310A?
Lmao… the fuzz loop is a nice feature but damn that price and that size… Yeah, if I were John Mayer I’d get one too, lol. BBE is still out there, folks.
I dunno man...its just kind a like playing with the eq. I know its different in feel but tonewise its kind a identical. But if the size of the pedal is small i might interested, because its set and forget pedal and stick em on secret place in the pedal board 😁😁
typically solving the problem that most of us are facing: an average guitar giving the most unexciting tone. Really cool.
if I can afford just one of these . Which one should I get?
I have to admit that the first time I heard about these pedals, I thought they were the perfect example of overhyped bulls*it. Then I heard them, and had my mind completely changed. I'm not exactly sure what they do, but they do it wonderfully.
I thought the same, and I like them but hate how big and expensive they are.
I'm curious... if you had to have one, which one would you want more the EUNA or OAMP?
2x MXR 10 bands ftw 😉
I think only euna is the best bang for the buck. Rest of the pedal board i‘d put on a looper
just design a powered pedal board that has those in and out interfaces cleverly built in at one interface point. drop in your effects and connect, voila! save some room on your board and get those adjustments with the pedal board and not more pedals! a humble opinion. I like the tonal differences. definitely something there to dial in tone.
OAMP
600 $ to get a tiny bit more clarity in the high end? Not worth it IMO. Great review though.
Well it’s not for one. That’s for both. Which I agree unless you’ve reaallllllly want them, you can do with one. I’d recommend the EUNA personally. I think that if nothing else is well worth it for what it can give you in your tones. Honestly it’s one of the “I didn’t know I needed this” pedals. But yeah, I get they’re pricey
Yeah I agree. Even just one is a lot of money and above all pedalboard space.
I use my Strymon Riverside as an always on buffer (buffer can be set to be active even when the pedal is off) and that solves any high end loss issues on my board without dedicating space for only a buffer. Otherwise I'd probably get a buffer that is compact and can be crammed under a pedalboard.
I think anything that's part of John Mayer rig is most likely overkill in therms of money vs tone
These seem more or less like studio-grade rack units, no?
I don't think the performance of these justify their ridiculous price tag. As everyone else has said, a buffer and EQ pedal will do the same. A programmable EQ pedal is much more useful and costs less.
A high quality buffer (TC Bona Fide for ex.) and eq pedal costs about the same. Most folks seem to underestimate how important signal conditioning is. I do think this unit could be smaller though.
I just got a EUNA and I promise you every available combo of buffer/eq I have at my disposal does NOT do what the EUNA does. It's great for me at least.
I dunno, it seems like the same thing could be achieved by a buffer + EQ or a buffered EQ pedal...
The emperor has no clothes. This has to be a joke.
thanks but i have a really good para eq pedal
Buffers are great, but when it's that big and expensive...I would rather have an EQ pedal.
If you think that the answer then go w it….I just grabbed a guru tube/opto compressor and I must say it enhances where a eq pedal doesn’t… that’s just my experience tho
I suggest trying things like this b4 you make assumptions
If you could only buy one then which?
Thank you I ask this on every demo. Of these pedals. And no answer.
I hate buffers. Just upgrade your cable to George L's. Use less pedals, less cable, dont use a loop switcher and try and stay away from a volume pedal. Bam all your tone is back.
I would like to care about my tone that much but the average person listining doesn't care at all. So i shall save my money and concentrate on my playing ability and stage management. Lol, my guitar is just one instrument in the mix of noise.
El pedal es costoso para el efecto que hace no es equitativo.
This is another example of how ridiculous the pedal market has gotten. $600 for a buffered EQ, ffs.
almost as good as the bbe sonic maximizer
These are for Instagram hipster boards. No offense to you, Bea.
Hahahahah none taken
Is it just me or does this have snake oil vibes all over it?
Honestly I don’t think so. It’s a “try it for yourself” thing I’d say. I genuinely wouldn’t make a video aboht them if I felt they were snake oil products.
More over this wasn’t a paid video, nor did I have to make it. They didn’t ask me for content, they sent them for me to try out in my rig. Which is what I video’d to show you.
I can totally see why some of you might think something fishy. But honestly it’s not snake oil. At least I really don’t think it is!
Seems to me like expensive buffers with some „louder is always better“-EQ-switches.
@@RabeaMassaad Thanks for your point of view. As you mentioned there are several points that make this product suspicious.
From the lack of technical explanation (Not blaming you personally), uninformative pamphlet to poor examples(lets make this tone lifeless then with the magic of these pedals make it sparkly).
Needles to say im no expert nor do I doubt you or your skills, just an honest opinion.
Keep up the great content, cheers.
@@RabeaMassaad It's not a paid video, they just sent you 600$ pedals. C'mon, semantics.
@@mbgmail5911 so.. if I didn’t like them I’d send them back. Either way, The choice to make a video was because I’m into them and think some of you guys would benefit from them. You think because someone sends pedals, it means I’m forced to say they’re great?! C’mon man!
Overpriced and overhyped IMO. Nothing too far from a buffer and an EQ working together
I'll be honest. This is 600 bucks worth of pedals you don't need if you have a decent pedalswitcher like the G2
And even when relevant. These pedals are wildly overpriced.
he got a g2 or g3
I cringe every time I hear "wamp"
Umm… nope 👎
