    I was taught this by a Meteorologist years ago who had been in the field for about 45 years. When Alaska is warm or hot, New England is cold or freezing. The warmer it is in Alaska the colder it is in New England. In all that time I have been keeping track of that and he was spot on..

    • @TRUTHISABSOLUTE777
      @TRUTHISABSOLUTE777 Před 5 lety +1

      I don't know a lot about Alaska's temperatures. Obviously I know it gets quite cold, but what is the Baseline when you are staying warm in Alaska? Can you give some examples? Or just elaborate a little bit? Because that sounds interesting to me. Thanks a lot. What is Alaska supposed to be like this winter? Is it supposed to be a warmer winter? Or a colder winter? And my other question is how does snowfall relate to this? If at all?

    • @Shaden0040
      @Shaden0040 Před 5 lety +1

      @@TRUTHISABSOLUTE777 Well he said anything 10-15 degrees above the seasonal average temperature in Alaska would indicate an equal temperature change colder in New England. Remember back a few years ago when we had the polar vortex dumping --10 to 20 F temps on New England? Well Alaska was about 50-60F over most of their state. That was a change for both areas of about 30-40 degrees F. It generally happens in Winter but I've seen it happen in the warmer moths from Spring to Autumn, though not as regularly. One spring about 5-6 years ago New England has a late spring that had clouds and rain 30 out of 36 days in a row between Memorial day weekend and the 4th of July, with temos in the 50s to 60s. Meanwhile Alaska was having minor driught conditions and were having a warmer than normal spring by about 5-10 degrees F. You can follow it by looking at a temperature map that is color coded for all of North America. If you see Alaska as yellow to ornagish then New England will be blue or purple.

    Growing up in Nashville, TN during the 60's - 70's I remember getting 4 to five snowfalls every winter, usually in January and February. At least two of those snows would be six inches or better. But the jet stream has shifted and just South of Nashvile gets snow and we are lucky to get one inch during one two snowfalls.

    I live in southern Louisiana and we got more than 2 inches of snow last year and our average is 0.2 inches. So, what about us this year? Our local meteorologist is saying that we have the opportunity for some southern snowstorms because most people are saying the temps here will be below to much below average and we will probably have an El Niño winter. So, what's going to happen here?

    • @Civilized-Joke
      @Civilized-Joke Před 5 lety +1

      The reason your average is 0.2 inches is because most years you get absolutely no snow but every couple of years conditions are just right for an inch or two of the white stuff. This winter is looking to be cool and wet for the southeast coast so I'd say your chances of seeing accumulating snow this winter are up to about 50%. All it takes is one event and with the way the weather pattern is looking to set-up there are going to be some close calls.

    I an wx guru. I am also a SKYWARN Spotter for the NWS in Buffalo, NY. I live between Buffalo and Niagara Falls, NY to be exact Tonawanda, NY 14150. Our forecasts is so similar feelings. In my analog output i used triple weight 1977 and I am going to do the same with 2014. You are right on with 2014 similar winter setting up. Especially with the +PDO and I forgot the exact strength of the +PDO in 2014 but it's really shaping up to be that way. This coming weekend I am super excited by the NAM off of weather.cod.edu I do use Accuweather Pro site too I have to use my computer to look at these more in details. The 5400 mb height is being further south with the storm system that I feel may do the rapid deepening of this low and is what my local 2nd incharge meteorologists at KBUF contact I have and friend told me by email and they are watching for possible mix precip on Friday afternoon and the LES coming to north Buffalo as of now for Saturday late Friday. Because I am not able to predict the total snow fall and no one can but us wx gurus and meteorologists can have an average or percentage like you're guidance is showing. Buffalo is along the lake Erie. Take les varing year by year what is your best guess forecasted snow fall for Buffalo area particular north buffalo, ny. I happen to want to share I feel the SW especially LA area may be another area to watch for above normal precipitation because of that possible setup of split jet. In my forecast I working on will show this. My guess is the colder temps then average I know you say -1 to -2 for my average December to February but in my forecast I feel it's more -2 to -4 then a huge sharp cut off to near normal for Chicago area. What is your thoughts on my forecasts and my liking to know your snow fall forecast amounts.

    Nonetheless, I hope this winter is mild for us Chicagoans like last year's just without the leaky polar vortex and indecisive hey stream. Anyhow! Love your videos dude! Keep up the good work and you've got a new subscriber in me! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

When it comes to snow around here elevation means a ton. In all I'm expecting 30 inches this year and I live at 2100ft. If you live down in town you probably are at 1650ft in Appalachia so you can probably expect something like 24 inches. If you head up to Wise though they'll probably get 35-40 inches!

    Jacksonville Illinois south to Jerseyville Illinois ( southwest Illinois ); I say here we will get 27 inches total. But I wouldn't be surprised if we get 2 or more snowstorms that dump 8-10 inches. Last winter was slightly below average, and the snows were 2 - 4 inches at a time.

    Plymouth Indiana 46563. Last year we got clobbered with lake effect off of Lake Michigan. So any low pressure passing near us with an unfrozen lake north of us is pure hell here. And during the blizzards you get the arctic winds Not like Buffalo but who in Gods name wants to live in Buffalo NY ?? I predict in Marshall County Indiana we get 100 inches + - 10.

    I know you have zero idea if you say Wichita, Kansas will get more snow this year then we have had the previous 3 years combined ! The last 3 years total snowfall? About 3.25 inches!
    We usually get several 6 to 8 inch snows, several 1 to 3's. The last three years we are lucky if the snow turns the ground white against the curbs where the wind pules up the 3 miles of parking lot it came from!

    Milwaukee Wisconsin area. I think above average. This is the earliest I remember having measurable snow. We got 3 inches last Saturday. It’s also pretty cold for this time of year. Don’t laugh my grandma always said watch the Woolley caterpillar. The more brown the milder the winter. First one I seen this season was almost entirely black. Just my opinion. :)
