Good day fellow woodworkers!!! I had a lot of fun making my cross-cutting sled and boy is it useful for my shop. What do you use your cross-cutting sled for or how would you improve my design?
Thanks. I always enjoy your videos. You could have just chamfered right over the mistakenly rounded edge on the fence! But it's nice to see someone that's real on here and admits to making mistakes.
I find a sled invaluable for squaring up wider pieces that the SCMS can't reach. Only suggestion I have for yours is on the back of the stop block machine a step above and below the bolt hole so you leave a spigot protruding out that fits neatly in the tee track either side of the bolt . That will stop the block from swiveling and just slides straight along the track and is always square to your workpiece. Nice work on all the steps you took to build the sled.
I recently posted my cross cut sled video too and use it all the time! Nice work, I like the t track idea. Note, for a perfect cut I recommend the 5 cut method. 👍 Btw, at certain angles I thought your suit in the background was another person. 😂
That 'suit' in the background has managed to scare the heck out of me a couple of times to thinking someone got into the shop 😂 Cool, I'll check out the 5-cut method, thanks for suggesting it.
One thing to think about for us newbies, make sure that the saw blade is @ 90 degrees too especially often cutting other woods @ different angles and that the Fence is also @90 degress, I have a contractor tablesaw and noticed a couple of times it was slightly out, check sq, measure 2x cut once Thanx for showing, I made one of these but am not happy with it so I will try yours, just gotta get that blasted T-track, it’s not easy here Greetings 🇩🇪 and have a great W/e
I always wondered what a crosscut sled was and it makes perfect sense. I like that red guide protector as keeping all my figures when using my table saw is crucial:)
You are definitely not the only one! mistakes are annoying but I always find that they force me to think outside the box and usually the result is better once I’ve worked through it… that is after the swearing, cursing and walking away for a few hours 😂😂
Good thing about building your first sled is it doesn't have to be overly complicated like all those "ultimate" sleds from other videos. So you will have chance to decide which additional feature will be useful for you and implement it into your next sled. BTW that so called mistake you made with routing wrong side of fence is in fact a very useful detail cause it allows sawdust to accumulate in that routed pocket so you don't have to swipe sled every time you make cut to ensure that saw dust doesn't affect squareness of cut. Anyway good useful build!
Thanks, I was thinking about adding track on the actual sled too but then figured it could wait until I knew if I actually needed it. The happy accident did work out, I did cut off the excess but used my hand plane to ensure there was still space for sawdust to collect. Thanks for watching
Never use a table saw while wearing long sleeve shirts, coats or sweat shirts. Even if you push the sleeve up it can fall down and can get caught in the blade. My husband knows a fellow that lost a finger by wearing a coat while running a saw
My two Border Collies love to hang out in the wood shop, the second I start a saw they come running from the other side of the farm, they also come running when I get on the tractor, not only are they working farm dogs, it seems they are woodworkers, they love chewing on cut offs.

That chamfer on the bottom is a good idea to keep sawdust from interfering with your parts.
Thanks it’s working well so far :)

Great point! And I’m glad you liked the video :)
Hello from Vancouver Island 👍🏝️
Hello there fellow Canadian 🇨🇦😊

Thanks for sharing, I will take a look at that for the stop block :)

That is a very good point my friend! Always make sure your blade is @90 degrees = good advice! Thanks :)

It’s only been a few days since I finished it and I seem to be using it for all sorts of cuts now. I guess better late then never to build it right 😂
Very nice job 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Meget fint😋
Tak :)
Thanks for the excellent video. Appreciate you leaving your mistakes in there :). Helps to know that I am not the only one who makes goof ups :).

Great design AND instructions & explanations! I’m going to use your design!!! Thanks
Awesome! Thank you!

I use mine to square up the ends of my cutting boards
Great idea!
Thank you. Great build!!! 💯💯
Thanks 😊

Good safety message for sure.
Put your dog outside when running shop equipment ... too loud.
One dog loves the shop and the other goes inside. They choose when to stay♥️🐕♥️
