- In the late 1970’s when movie film was the normal media, Robert Rivard made an investment in a first generation video camera with sound. In this production, we see some of Bob’s footage of great railroad action in and around the Twin Cities of Minnesota from 1979 to 1988! You will be amazed at the sights and sounds of classic railroads that no longer exist today.
Railroads seen in this video are Minneapolis Northfield and Southern, Rock Island, Chicago and North Western, Soo Line, Milwaukee Road, Burlington Northern, Minnesota Transfer Railway, Anderson Windows Industrial and Amtrak.
Locations include the Stone Arch Bridge, Shoreham Yard, Coon Creek Junction, Short Line Hill, Westminster Tower, Marshall Street, Shoreham Hill, Newport, Hudson, Robert Street Lift Bridge, Dayton’s Bluff, Park Junction, Como Shops, Bayport, Savage, Fordson Junction and more!

These trains were right in the thick of my mother’s and father’s childhoods. So much diversity was so close to my home. Bellowing Leslie A200s, wheezing Hancock 4700s, snarling EMDs, and chugging U-Boats/Dash 7s.
