  • In this video we want to tell step by step. Why chain can skipping or like jump if the hard or medium pedaling.
only happens if your bicycles often used
00:13 Press pedal, what happens. Chain jumping and skipping, and not follow crank rotation. Crank look like not gripping the chain bike. Even medium press on the pedal.
00:20 Slow motion video, how chain can jump from chainring
00:28 Why chain can jump. Gear is damaged due to age. The pressure from the chain makes the teeth become sharp, and not strong enough to hold the chain. Please see details in the video, like pattern change from tooth chain ring.
00:55 a part damage in chainring. Usually not far away from the crank arm. Only appear for old bike or old chain ring
00:58 zoom damage tooth of chainring, pattern changes to be sharp. From Curve to be triangle / taper
1:39 Solve problem if chain skipping. Replace with New Chainring. Replace big chain ring, very easy, only pull out old chaining and replace with new one. Replace middle and small chain ring. Must release crank from bike.
2:45 After Replace Chainring. The normal pressure look pedal, No skipping chain, or chain goes out of the chain ring.
I hope this video can solve problem, if bike chain skipping
If you replace the chain, and the chain still skipping, jump until you lose pedal power
Please check the chainrings will most likely need to be replaced.
After 2 months, until found this problem. And the bike 11 years old.
Replace with a new chain, the chain bike is often jumping and going worse.
    Wrong analize
In normal pedal, chain look good. But day by day, start going worse. Chain often skipping and more skipping
Replace a new chain, still problem and going worse. Bike Chain always jump, even medium pedal pressure will jumping / skipping
    Check Jockey, not solve problem.
Check Rear Delarielleur, everything is good. Test shifting, moving gear without problems
Recheck tighten sprocket not solve the problem
Check and replace cable shifters. Problem still there
Clean shifter gear, give lubrication. Shifter more good lighter. But the problem is still there
Until we check the tooth chain ring, and source the hard sound from there.
    That is the problem.
Replace the chain ring, problem solve ?
If any tooth of chainring is sharp, like a triangle pattern.
May be a problem from there.
What you must to do ! ! !
If you are never replace the bike chain, more than 5 years, and you are using your bike everyday.
Replace all new part, (1) sprocket, (2) chainring and (3) chain together.
Chain skipping like the tip of the iceberg, problem not from chain ring.
All part will effect if you already get chain ring wear.
Replace a new chain will not solve the problem.
The Chain will damage more shortly or distressed
Sprocket is a second part damage, before reach the chain ring.
If chain ring damage, sprocket definitely too.
You can check how to measurement chain, and when you must replace before get punk

Great video, really in depth information on what to look for in terms of wear. I've been MTBing for 3 years now changed my large chainring along with the chain and cassette 1 year ago. I've been having issues with the chain coming off under standing load the last few days, did a inner and outer cable replacement and front and back mech index but it's still slipping. Testing yesterday I could see it slipping of the large chainring so I'll have a look if the chainring needs changed. I was looking at a new 1x12 set up which is more expensive then a £25 chainring 👍🏽.

    2. replace chain when is worn in early phase
    3. reshape teeth to prevent new chain slipping/skipping
same cassete and chain rings can be used very long time/many kilometers before it have to be replaced

      Agree, good advice Mark
      Damage - chain
      Next impact - sprocket
After sprocket will impact - chain ring
      If chain ring already damage.
Must replace chain, chain ring and sprocket together
No other solution, all of 3 components must be replaced

Measure the length of the chain

A jump chain can be caused by several things.
Derailleur, back shifting gear. Cannot withstand chain movement.
